Hrm.

lyssie: (Cally Henderson is not impressed.)
1. I have thoughts on things I need to think about more (mostly, it was something I said to [livejournal.com profile] aj about St. Trinian's and Afterlife never apologizing for being FEMALE, and that... disturbs me on some level--not that they should, but that it makes me wonder how many female characters are written with some sort of 'I'm sorry I'm a chick and not a guy' thing going on, which is an odd thing to think, I think??--like, Eastwick and Fringe don't do it; and now I don't even know if that's the flavor/words I'm looking for, meh).

2. Just for the record, if you've never read any good femslash, and you say (or agree with) things like "I've read a lot and it all seems emotionless" etc., etc., it makes those of us who write it less likely to bother doing so again. So fuck you very much. (shockingly, I've never read any good boyslash, but you don't see me going around claiming it's all shit and unemotional porn OH WAIT.) [also, I'm sure I've made this point before. hrm] eta3: in the cold light of morning, my sarcasm is back to normal, and may I say that this sort of attitude actually makes me want to write femslash more, just to clog up the internets.

3. Avoiding metafandom keeps me from punching people over the internet.

4: eta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKeA3-n27t8 <--if this doesn't make you O.o or giggle, I don't know what will.

5. eta2. Sophie Deveraux was head girl at St. Trinian's in 19-mumble-mumble. Trufax.
lyssie: (Meggan is awesome)
I don't know, is season two still considered an "OMG SPOILERCUT"? Eh.

I was watching to meet the Harvelles.

lyssie: (Phoenix says you're dead and she's not)
Fuck, I hate the 'Ironic' song. I keep trying to blast it out with Born Slippy, but it's not working--I could not sleep last night, I made lists in my head. I wrote meta. I had Travis voiced by Clive Owen telling Cally and Jenna that they were blown and then Soolin and Dayna joined them as they ran in heels for the car and piled in. Breaking Monte Carlo might not be so easy.

1. The next person to say "There are no interesting female characters" is getting punched in the face. (this is not a result of someone actually saying it, ftr)

2. I need to sit down and spill out my thought about why a woman is not anymore interesting when she's 'breaking gender roles' and that this idea is so fucked up and is WHY so many female characters are boring. The issues isn't breaking them, it's variety, dammit. It's not limiting women to babies, victims, love interests, little sisters and hookers.

3. I had a thought about the gritty realities and dark underbellies of society and how Blake's 7 was doing that before anyone else and Twin Peaks did it (with more emphasis on "WOMEN ARE VICTIMS" but it was brutal and harsh) and how Dollhouse is now doing it with titillation and "aren't women pretty dolls while they're being raped?" And how none of that is going to change, because the media likes its victimized women, and the trope is never going away and that is possibly the most depressing thing ever. (this is not a condemnation of people liking any of those shows, it's just frustration)

4. Thank god for winamp.

5. I am making a list. I am going to make a goddamn list and talk about how the shows and the fandoms are crap at this, that and the other thing, but HERE ARE THOSE WOMEN YOU CLAIM DON'T EXIST. Here is the original list.

6. I should maybe eat breakfast.

7. Incidentally, Crossfade is the Shinedown of 200....er, 4, wasn't it?
lyssie: (Miss Marple doubts your intelligence)

This trolly secret got posted to f!s today, and I'm... a bit annoyed. Sure, it's a troll. But the underlying message: that it's ok to celebrate a female character's death because she dumped your whoobie is... pissing me off.

Link to said secret, full of BSG fail: http://i36.tinypic.com/icl5cz.jpg

So. What did Dee do to Billy?

Not to mention the stove. ALSO. If anyone needs a horror background matte, I can take some photos underneath the range top which has obviously never been cleaned.

Anyway. THIS JUST IN. There are women in fandom. BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES. Apparently we didn't exist until Twilight. And Twilight is perfectly geared towards women, which is why we flock to it.

....

Or something. I don't know. I was distracted by dishes and random Cylon weirdness.

1. The worst thing about having a Katy Perry song running through your head is not having actually heard it for at least two weeks. wtf, brain. Also, I think Waking up in Vegas is at least better than Leaving Las Vegas, but neither song is exactly what I want bouncing through my brains.

2. One of the weirder things about being on the outskirts of Torchwood fandom is coming across statements like "Gwen gets people killed and doesn't care". I find that a baffling sentiment. It took me a while to even come up with a time Gwen got someone killed, and the only one is inadvertently setting the sex monster free in 'Day One'. Really? Gwen caused all that, all on her lonesome? Oh, wait. Owen was being an asshole. Hrm. Shared blame, then.

I had a few dupes, apparently, and one that made no sense after sleeping. So there are 24, with the free square.

If you can think of more, I can edit/add/change. Most of these are things I've seen people say over the last few years, usually in response to "that was sort of hinky, gender-wise" or something to that effect.

2. In other news, the boys at Bridge are stealing from Dollhouse. Rape is so awesome. =D (link found courtesy [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat) eta: I suppose I should put a spoiler warning for Stargate: 90210 on that.

1. THIS JUST IN. Women who have boyfriends are bad role models. (fail, [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets commenters, fail)

2. On a recent note, there's apparently been some fail regarding the Head Bitch in Charge contest that was raging. Allie has a sort of solution over here. (srsly. boys are winning? Fail again) (am not linking to poll, but to intelligent people)

However, [livejournal.com profile] life_on_queen who has discovered I was Catholic in another life, suggested perhaps we should encourage more conversation/fic/meta/etc about the lovely women in question.

The problem is, the only thing I had on the brain this morning was the 1001 Orgasm Challenge. It's easy to discard the orgasm part and reinsert something else. Like, say, ficlets, drabbles, pieces of art, meta, picspams.... And now I'm sincerely certain that I am insane for even contemplating something like this (drabble tag on ACID).

3. This is still in the planning stages, but here's sort of how it might work:
People comment with a prompt, someone writes them the prompt and leaves one of their own.
Someone makes art of the original prompt.
Someone else writes up meta on the third prompt, and someone else picspams on prompt number eight--
But to make it even more confusing, anyone can leave a prompt or a list of fic recs for a certain character/group of characters or a link to someone else's picspam...

The post stays open until one of two things:
People get bored and wander away.
Comments get maxed out.

If I haven't reached 1001, I'm opening a new post.

Open to all fandoms, all women, femslash, het, friendship, gen, romance, blah, etc...

Limited by no rape/non-con/incest, with a request for spoiler warnings as needed.

um. so.

Am I insane?
lyssie: (Sam and Teyla could get annoyed)
Don't like the sexism in Marvel comics? Don't read!

(you'll have to scroll down a bit to his comments on the new Marvel "for women" book with sexy chicks on the cover who spend the time complaining about boys and buying makeup. BEING A SUPERHERO IS SO HARD FOR WOMEN, YOU GUYS)

It's called Marvel Divas. *snaps fingers*

So. Apparently, it's "Fuck you, she's awesome" week again. I hadn't realized it'd been a year (but it has, wow).

This is my still un-updated from Jan/08 list

Yes. I have written them all. Also? FUCK YOU, if you think I did it just to tick them off a list.

Now, how about some additions.

1. Jenny Shepard (who is probably on the list anyway, but I don't care. Fandom wouldn't have thrown a shitfit if Gibbs had been the one after La Grannouille)

2. Paulla Shafer (BSG, too lazy to check the spelling on her last name. SHE LIKES GUNS)

3. Gwen Cooper (Torchwood, also on the list, and I don't care. You could fill the entirety of CANADA with people who thinks she's a worthless slut and whore--also, if you're one of them? Get the fuck off my flist.)

4. Natalie. (BSG, fuck you, Ron)

5. Mary Shannon (In Plain Sight)

6. Megan Wheeler (Criminal Intent, and fuck their stupid Boys Get The Only Plots club)

7. Gilina (Farscape. Still shittily treated--I'm really annoyed that the more I re-watch Farscape, the stupider it gets.)

8. Dr. Faiza Hussain (Captain Britain and MI13, she and Lady Jacq are two things Cornell is getting right)

9. Kitty Pryde (fuck you, Joss Whedon fans. Please stop sucking him off by claiming his run on X-Men was good)

10. Lady Jacqueline Farnsworth-Crichton (Spitfire) (Seriously, the second reason I read this book)

I bet there are more, too. Damn.
lyssie: (Aeryn thinks you're an idiot)
There are about to be spoilers in this post for the last episode. It's, in the grand scheme, actually pretty minor a spoiler. But it is one, nonetheless.

disclaimer: They're not mine.
rating: PG for some language, innuendo and mentioned violence.
fandoms: NCIS, Stargates, Buffyverse, Criminal Intent, Touching Evil UK, Bones, Second Sight, Torchwood, Smallville, Dresden Files (tv series), The X-Files, Forever Knight, CSI. (I think that's everyone)
notes: This was written prior to the end of season five of NCIS, certain portions of season 4 of Stargate: Atlantis, the end of season two of Torchwood, mid-season eight of Buffy, with hazy knowledge of seasons past three of Angel, and mid-season seven of Criminal Intent. (some of the others aren't even in production anymore)
As such, there are spoilers for probably every single one of these, some lesser spoilers than others.
So. I've always had a thing for this sort of thing. And I'm very well aware how very wish fulfillment it is. I don't care.
I figured, after those two lovely multi-fandom vids, I was at least somewhat safe to post this.

1. [livejournal.com profile] femme_fic has opened sign-ups for 2009. I had a blast, last time.

2. [livejournal.com profile] thelittlebang is also open for business. It's a femslash writing (and art) challenge -- 15,000 words. For reference, 'On the Painted Desert' was just about that. It's just a small chunk. Really. ;] And they're looking for artists, too, to create pieces to go with each story.

3. [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon is also back, for the next two weeks. Go! Be woman and girl-happy, and spread the love of female characters. Now I totally have an excuse to finish the Spooks/Touching Evil crossover with Ruth and Taylor

There's been lots of meta regarding femslash, recently. Here, here, here, and here. If not more places I haven't seen yet. (also, to derail a moment, Femme_fic is hosting a poll about which fandoms to include this year)

And there's been a few bits and pieces I ended up chewing over at work, and thus, felt the need to then regurgitate (*murders analogy*). It's long. And possibly pointless.
