Entertaining in a Disturbing Way

Especially if it is far away and not really my business.

I mention any of this because At The Behest of my therapist, I am trying to do small adventures. Things to get me out of the house and just generally moving around. This week's was taking the bus to go buy cat food up at Division and Milwaukee. And because I was up there, I stopped at Reckless Records and bought the new Lily Allen cd. Which is not something I've done in nearly fifteen years. (Buying a new release cd.) And if y'all don't know the drama behind this record... I encourage you to look it up. Woof.

I did get hailed on, but I got home ok.

IDK, I guess I've never really considered myself a Music Person much? But then when I review my history, I think maybe that's a bit of a lie. I've gone through chunks of my life where I've been really obsessed with music. I had something like 500 cd's at one point and I do always have a music player on me at all times. (Or more than one.) Maybe I don't feel like a Music Person because I'm not a pedantic snob or hyperfixated on one specific area of musical theory or education or production or instruments or creativity. I just like listening to stuff and hearing about how it was made and then also listening to people talk about music they enjoy.

*shrug* I guess I've internalized a set of guidelines on how to be a Music Person. That's on me though? Meh.

Anyway, I have been seeking out older albums from bands I enjoyed. "The Glorious Dead" by The Heavy is a damn delight. I loved "The House That Dirt Built" and need to track down some of their more recent stuff. I haven't had the chance to sit with TGD yet, but I really loved the first listen. I am currently obsessed with "Even in Arcadia" by Sleep Token. It scratches the The Scorpions area of my brain. I'm also baffled at how I didn't fall in love with Hozier's first album when I originally listened to it. It's become one of my go-to full-listens on rainy days. Foreigner's God remains a stone cold banger and I will listen to other opinions.

In other news, my great-niece is gonna be in town for a dance competition this weekend. I'm trying to move things around so I can see her compete! I feel bad that I've not really had the opportunity to go to any auntie-related school things, so I am deeply tempted to go overboard. Apparently kiddo is writing a book about a young girl 'accomplishing her goals'. Love that for her. Anywho, might get her some roses. Nothing huge because she'll have to schlep it home, but I'll poke around and figure it out.
