1. Sigh. I'm trying to read Blood Law by Jeannie Holmes, and it's hard-going, because the heroine keeps getting injured/knocked out, and dudes stand around measuring their wangs to prove how amazing they are at keeping her alive. I almost dumped it in the first chapter when a scene occurs with two dudes who decide they totally know what's best for the heroine. But I thought "It has to be better, right?" So far? Not. Not at all. Like, ffs, Black Wings had umpteenbillion moments when the heroine was injured/knocked out/down for the count, but the narrative was still hers. In this one, she's basically a secondary character to let the dudes do their thing. Has anyone else read it/know if it gets better? Because I really like the other female character, and the world-building is interesting (if hackneyed and cliched and a total "vampires represent repressed minorities" ripoff a la mutants in Marvel-land).

But. Seriously, I am so annoyed every six or seven pages. FUCK this "dudes know best, little lady" bullshit. (because, srsly, that is the vibe this book gives off, and it's annooooying)

2. I have an interview tomorrow. Fingers crossed. (also, I really hope I manage to fall asleep tonight, I do not need to be awake until four a.m. again, ffs)

3. Pretty much every upcoming SF/F movie event can be titled "Some white dudes do shit" This does not make me interested. Here's hoping the Snow White & TH sequel is getting made. Black Widow would be nice, too, but if it's by Joss Whedon I will cry (because, penis. Also, I honestly can't stand him anymore). Also, I won't hold my breath for the movie to actually happen. (written and directed by Rachel Talalay, otoh? I AM SO THERE WITH BELLS ON IS IT CHRISTMAS AND I DIDN'T KNOW IT?)

4. No Continuum this week. *wails* (I know, it is awful, BUT KIERA SHOOTING THINGS MAKES ME HAPPY, SHUT UP)

5. I want to say EurekaRead more... )

6. Booklist:
Yankee Doodle Gals: Women Pilots of World War II by Amy Nathan (it's a book for kids, but still interesting enough. Also, anger-causing at all the dudes who whined about women taking their jobs)
Flying Higher - The Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II by Wanda Langley (also a book for the younger set)
Women Heroes of World War II - 26 Stories of Espionage, Sabotage, Resistance, and Rescue by Kathryn J Atwood

0. I don't even know. *hands*

1. Eureka (season four) is officially good for listening to at work. It does lack some of the visuals, but the voice work is excellent. Except. Except for the dude who was the General/Colonel from 1947. HOLY GOD HIS VOICE is so awful it made me go "...whyyyy. I do not buy this guy as a tough military leader." (not!Gaius is, of course, excellent)

2. Also. I think Bear has been doing the music for Eureka for a while, but HOLY HELLO BSG-SOUNDING music in s4, Batman. It's sort of hilarious to hear, like the viper theme (with variation, obvsly). And Jo's Big Emo scenes get the "mystical bells" treatment.

3. Poking at [livejournal.com profile] w13_femslash shouldn't make me think "I should write Joanne Kelly/Genelle Williams rpfs" (what, I don't know either)

4. I have hot cocoa with enhancements. This is crucial, as it is v cold outside.

5. I'm torn with being excited for the porn battle, and also being uncertain. I don't know if I'll get inspiration or continue to feel burned out on porn.
lyssie: (Cadman is more awesome than you. Deal.)
I think I owe a Sanctuary 3.10 review, too? idk. Maybe later (and something else I'm forgetting)

So. 4.0.

Covert Affairs. I don't have much to say about it. I enjoy it while it's on, but it's not a very deep show. I'm still a huge Annie and Joan fan, though. And Auggie and Arthur are growing on me. And Jai is hot. So is Liza. Big Reveal was not so big. I do sort of think it's hilarious that Annie's Love changed Ben's life 4ever.

Nikita. Also not one I have much to say about, aside from the whole "Alex isn't subtle, how haven't they caught her yet?" aspect. I can handle all the rest, but that keeps straining my credulity. Also, Percy and Jai's daddy from CA are like the same person and need to diaf. ugh. I have thoughts on Alex's family/Nikita's reason for stalking her--but also, Michael is vaguely growing on me. I still find him sort of uninteresting, but he's not blah as much? (also, Andre McBride from Painkiller Jane as an enforcer. What a come-down, Andre. Being Percy's top killer)

Eureka. I would appreciate it if Jo got a storyline that wasn't about her love-life. :/
I'm not sure if these are spoilers, but best be safe? )

So, the thing about having four episodes of Eureka to watch is, well, having four episodes to marathon through.

The bad thing is then having to wait until Tuesday for more.

I really do like this show (and annoyed [livejournal.com profile] nique last night a lot by saying so every fifteen minutes or so).

Having avoided spoilers, I really don't know if anyone else likes the show. But that's ok. Just... hopefully, my liking it won't get it cancelled.

Also, I kind of want Jo and Sam Carter to have a pissing contest at a firing range. And possibly beer.

Hrm. So, this is more of a Blackbird than a Viper in shape--longer nose. But... Not the right color. ARG. Sigh. Hrm.

Eureka, btw, cute, snarky, amusing. And has half the ten actors in Looooooovely Vancouver in it. Shall be watching again. (also, I would like a Jo, to go with Jo and Kara and...)
