lyssie: (Kara and Sam kissing)
1. It came to my attention last week that the Sam/Kara comm I created, [livejournal.com profile] starcrossedlure is ten years old as of January. I'm saddened that I can't think of anything to post in commemoration.

Oh, BSG/SG fandoms, I do miss you so, sometimes.

2. I went through my unfinished crossovers folder and ruthlessly culled the ones I'll never be able to finish (for instance, 40 words does not a plot make, brain. And yet). I now have a list of all of the files with some vague idea what's in them, and, dear god are there a lot of BSG crossovers.

3. Getting through the other unfinished fic folders may take more time, though (and I've just reminded myself of at least one crossover that isn't in the right folder, damn)

4. Still haven't watched any new tv since November. idk. I just haven't felt motivated. If I'd been reading books, I probably would have already surpassed last year's number read. Sadly, it's all been fanfic.

5. It was warm for one brief day this week, now it's cold again. ugh.

6. I made the mistake of following up St. Trinian's with Fellowship of the Ring at work last week. I spent the entire time replacing the cast with St. Trinian's alumni/us.because it's ridiculous )
lyssie: (Jo Grant: Dalek killer)
1. Finally got round to listening to the Dark Eyes set done by Big Finish (the first one), and, uh... It's dull. Read more... )

2. In other (related) news: things I am really tired of: Daleks.

3. Deadpool fought X-Force and warped all of time and kidnapped Hitler and it was ridiculous.

4. Black Widow continues to keep her clothing on. (I am shocked by this every month, tbh. After all: our concept of female spies is Mata Hari and Natasha in heels and a tiny dress) It is sort of amazing. Unsurprisingly, no one likes the book (I, of course, am loving it).

5. On the other end of the spectrum, Painkiller Jane and the 22 Brides continue to shoot people in the face whilst wearing high heels and bikinis (I tried. I tried to give them up, guys. I just can't, because they speak to me--I mean, Jane is the equivalent of Wolverine when he's got his healing factor. She just keeps on coming, damn). Seth is dull, guys, can we move on from him (dude, you do NOT GET TO OWN HER just 'cause she admits she loves you).

6. Ms. Marvel continues to be cute.

7. Storm was...idek. I think I need to process.

8. I am not reading Saga, yet. I'm pretty sure it's going to stomp on my heart.

9. I really liked Into the Dalek, ftr. I mean. I know I was probably drunk while watching it at DC. But. But. Can Clara and Danny make out a lot, please? Also: St. Trinian's: Taking over Doctor Who one episode at a time. (I am trying to work out how the crossover works, give me time)
lyssie: (Scott and Bailey)
1. Janet Scott is amazing. I don't think I have words for how incredibly amazing she is. She just. is.

2. Rachel Bailey is hilarious, and should probably try NOT to drunk-dial her boss. *coughs*

3. GILL IS ALSO AMAZING. "That would be highly unethical, yeah. Go for it."

lyssie: (Toshiko Sato > you)
The usage of female sexual power by men in movies to turn them into caricatures (and thus make them safe), a la Jessica Rabbit and Cool World. Seriously. I don't need to be waking from a half-doze and thinking about that (and arguing with the people in my head)

Also, I want to talk about this femslash fic that turned up the other day, and how it reduces women to shallow, vapid people who are only interesting when they're titillating men (and doing it only for the sake of the men, too). But I do not have the time before work. But seriously? Erasing the idea that women can be attracted to each other for the sake of attraction is rather rude. (note to pseudo-femslashers: women kissing women is never wrong, and women having sexualities not defined by men isn't wrong, either)

In the meantime, have some St. Trinian's/Doctor Who ficlet.

lyssie: (Spooks are the angstiest spies ever)
No spoilers, and only a drabble, so no cut, either. Ahem. Spooks/St. Trinian's.

Ros had never really seen the point in being head girl, but then again, she was rich and she was used to being in charge. So it was perfectly natural to step into the gap when her predecessor left. It wasn't some sort of gift from her father; it was something Ros earned, if one considered a coup something one earned.

Later on in life, she would think back to that first day as head girl, and count herself lucky that a terrorist pointing a gun at her head was frivolous compared to what a St. Trinian's girl could pull.

-f

(ftr: Ros was Posh Totty, Jo was an Eco Freak, Ruth was a Geek, and Zoe was probably an Emo--Tessa was probably one of those difficult ones who refused to pick a faction, but was also a head girl who confused everyone by not taking traditional sides. Connie was a Peacenik. I'm sure they had a whole hippie/peace/love section in St. Trinian's, once upon a time.)
