lyssie: (Fiona and Adam)
I am working on a Doctor Who post, but it's taking time to assemble my thoughts with any sort of coherency (long gone are the days of SFF, wherein I'd manage something right after or even during an episode).

In lieu of that, have some more thoughts on Spooks.

I've continued to listen to Spooks at work over this week, and it's rekindled the need to watch it again. I'll probably start doing so (I already girded my loins and dug into 8x1 on Wednesday for a fix, and then the first tennish minutes of 9x1 because Harry).

1. Really. Bowie and Rickman in one week? Was it too much to ask not to spread them out a bit?

2. I am officially caught up on Doctor Who. Points to me for not stopping until I'd made it all the way through. No points to me for taking so bloody long.

3. I have also, disturbingly, caught up entirely on Sherlock. I blame the bushy-haired tall dude. Because he's not as tall as Trucco and Tahmoh, but he is tall, even if he's a bit odd-looking. (ok, also, Mary. And Molly.) and that voice, god

4. I should write up review things about the above two points, but they might entirely consist of "Can I have one?" (Clara) and "Can I have one?" (Sherlock). (ok, I'm not entirely that shallow)

(mostly)

5. In other news, I was listening to Spooks at work the other day (as you do, when windows keeps cuing up the episodes), and I realized that Tom Quinn is still the Angstiest Spy Ever, but Adam definitely gives him a run for his title. And as a whole, Harry's team really are the Worst, Most Obvious Spies. (also, Harry says something in a fourth series episode about not wanting to play god and I practically fell out of my chair. REALLY, HARRY. REALLY) And Ros, Ruth and Jo remain my favorites--if I had to quickly pick a team of women to storm the world, they'd be it. (and possibly Molly Hooper for medical backup. Or maybe Martha Jones. I can't decide which)

6. Like, a month ago I went down and visited [livejournal.com profile] aj and [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat, and there were potatoes and latkes and long conversations and it's been way too long since I'd seen them. And it was amazing to hang out. We all agreed that we are not too old for fandom, and that it sometimes is a bit scary to think about how long it's been since we entered said establishment and/or met each other (for reals, every time someone on my flist talks about the age of their children--if they have them--I suddenly am like "shit, I remember when...").

7. Christmas happened, saw parts of my family. Didn't see others. Drove a Ford Focus down and back, and it was lovely. (my sis and bro-in-law almost spoiled me for DW s9 and the xmas special, but I was all "la la la, can't hear you" at them. And then my sis was saying that she didn't get Elementary, 'cause Joan Watson sounds wrong, and I almost said "them's fighting words" but got distracted 'cause Joan would be like "...whatever" and go solve crime)

8. Watched the recent adaption of And Then Where None and thought it was very well done. Dark, gothic and very compelling (even if the music was occasionally a bit much). I also managed to not want it to end the way it did (and for once, fandom gave me presents in that the pairing I wanted to read is about the only thing out there--I know they are awful, awful people, but I ship it like I shipped everyone in Crimson Peak, ok)

9. I fell down on the job with keeping a booklist over the last year, so I've no idea what I read over the year. Perhaps I'll manage better this year. The only thing I remember is re-reading Georgiana again (I can't help it, Georgie is ridiculous and forthright and clever and she shoots him this one time, that's like Lyssie kryptonite served up with milk chocolate truffles)

10. I really have to stop with the parenthetical statements (even if they are fun, this is not prose, dammit).

(sigh)

I finally remembered to watch it.

Or possibly not so much. Anyway, I keep typoing 'Adam' as 'Adama', and I said that Adam isn't an Adama (except that he sort of is, with his adorable emo!angst). And my brain followed that to the logical conclusion of ~reincarnation, and naturally, I realized that Ros is Caprica Six.

And suddenly, everything in life makes sense. (OK, SO ONLY IN MY HEAD, BUT WHATEVER)
lyssie: (Ros Myers thinks you're not so bright.)
1. I have discovered that netflix streaming has EDITED episodes of Spooks. BAD FORM, NETFLIX. I WANT ALL MY SPIES, TYVM.

2. In listening to series eight, I have come to the realization that I love Sarah Caulfield. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM LIKE "OMG SARAH, MARRY ME." Despite her accent being all over the place. (she is evil! Dedicated! Slithery! Evil! A lying liar who lies, but everyone keeps BUYING IT--except maybe Ruth and/or Ros, but Ruth never talks to her, and Ros has no penis, so she doesn't get to)

3. speaking of, though. I need to write some Ros/Sarah, because the hate!sex is sort of epic (because Ros sees herself in Sarah, but who she was once, not who she is now--YALTA AND HER DADDY, ffs, after all)

4. I wrote Weir/Sheppard fic over at idek what I think of it now.

5. note to self: don't forget to mail things tomorrow.
lyssie: (Spooks are the angstiest spies ever)
1. I have discovered that Spooks rips excellently to audio files which are quite useful to distract oneself with at work. I am, of course, also re-watching my way through series six. Because I am a masochist (ROS'S FACE. I CAN'T EVEN)

2. If I had to pick between lead males, Adam gets my vote. I never picked up on Tom, and Lucas's last season soured him entirely.

3. In other news, I'm fairly certain I am forgetting things I'm supposed to do. What those are, I do not know.

4. Still haven't watched the last episode of DW. Or Lost Girl, come to that (get on that, self). (THAT IS BECAUSE ID-CRACKY SPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIES are more tempting--because, ok, I started with series four and worked my way up. ngl, Jo Portman is my gateway drug of choice)

5. [livejournal.com profile] femslash_land is back. \o/

6. I wrote a Spooks (Ros and Jo) ficlet, but now I'm not sure where I posted it. Oh well, I'll get round to reposting at some point.

7. There is no seven.
lyssie: (Spooks are the angstiest spies ever)
1. SPOOKS IS BACK OMG I MISSED IT SO. ok, it is probably not the Best Show Ever. But whatever. <3 (even if they still can't give Tariq a line to save their own asses). ok, I tried not to have spoilers, but my brain is impatient )

Um. Sorry.

2. um. I wrote Amy/Karen Gillan femslash. idek (it's a double drabble)

3. Lost Girl was an improvement this week (funny how no Dyson automatically makes an episode 50% better). I LOVE MY GIRLS. <3 <3 <3

4. Still not watched Eureka. Or Haven, come to that (spoilery reasons are still pissing me off). eta: spoilers in comments for Haven
lyssie: (Romo is spoilery)
1. I was listening to the Counting Crows' August and Everything After..., and 'Anna Begins' came on, and the line about coconut islands crossed my ears, and I started thinking about Sam/Jack and how I'm not really in that place anymore where I ship them so hard. Except as strangers, apparently. Idk.

2. I sort of have this terrible idea of making a Ros/Adam vid to 'Dotted Lines' by Sweet Talk Radio, with extra punchy angst for the last refrain and closing shot (because I am mean)

3. In news about how easy I am, I discovered, upon watching series 8 of Spooks, that I ship the new home secretary (Andrew something or other) with Ros.... Because she drags him down a corridor this one time (damn you, BSG, for adding patterns to my shipping). (also, because he sacked Harry; everyone should sack Harry)

4. Speaking of Harry, re-listening to Foyle's War brings me to rediscover Hilda Pierce, who is obviously Harry Pearce's grandmother, name spellings notwithstanding. (no lie, I would watch a series about Hilda Pierce, international spy handler. GET ON THAT, BBC)

5. Also. The French Drop is extra hilarious after having seen Spooks (just for the ridiculous spy stuff, and the giggles that the baby MI-5 cause, although it possibly isn't really MI-5, as there's an MI-6 operative about. BUT STILL. giggles)

6. NOTE TO SELF; DO NOT FORGET YOUR CELL PHONE.
lyssie: (Ros Myers thinks you're not so bright.)
And I found it hilarious how up in arms the reviewers were over the "anti-American" bias the show has. Apparently, that's the most upsetting thing about it. Because, of course, there aren't any American shows with strong anti-Everyone Not America biases.

(that said, I don't exactly see a strong anti-America bias in the show; I see a more pro-Britain bias, which encompasses every other nationality, which, seriously, the show is... set in Britain, about the British secret service, if it weren't pro-Britain, I'd be slightly worried)

eta: also, the reviewer kept harping on about how No ONE ever has a GUN, and they obviously watched a different version than I did, since there's tons of guns (in fact, Zaf and Adam are pointing guns as I type). Also, apparently, lack of guns makes for boring television. WHO KNEW.

Of course, the problem is, then I go and re-watch some series 4 and 5 episodes, and my face is all sad. The Zaf and Ruth scenes in 5.5, OH MY TEAM, why are you so angsty. Even if I find Adam incredibly boring.

I think 4-5 are my dream team, really. Fiona, Ros, Jo, Ruth, Adam, Zaaaaf, Colin, Malcolm and Harry. They are fabulous, wonderful people, and I miss them when they're gone. (at least, s4, Adam. s5 Adam makes me eye-roll, and s6 Adam is like the most boring thing in the history of ever until s9 Lucas wanders into my field of boredom)

(also, I keep typing Adama instead of Adam)

*draws hearts all over Ros*

2. I have the discs now, but I'm not sure I want to watch season eight anymore.

3. Having delved into the fandom (a little, and wow has it been a LONG TIME since I've gone on a "yay, new fandom, *READS ALL THE THINGS*" binge--though I'm skipping anything recent, since, spoilers, as River would say), I'm perplexed at the idea that Jo was an incompetent waste of space? idek, I think I watched the wrong version of the show.

4. ROS KILLED A MAN WITH A FORK.

5. I have this temptation to write Joan (from Covert Affairs) as the new, interim, CIA liaison officer, with Ros as her contact. Not for any real purpose, but mostly so that I could have the satisfaction of knowing the world would quake if they teamed up. (Annie and Jo would make excellent bar hopping pals, and then Ben and Ben could just stand around looking confused while Jai mocked them) - temptation, but no plot.

6. Also, writing Ros makes my heart quell, since she's like the Laura Roslin of Spooks in that she's massively complex and getting her right is very hard (I haven't read a fic yet where I could say "yes, that's Ros")

7. re #5, if River Song were there, the universe would just put its hands up in defeat (Ros, Joan and River vs Daleks, then?)

Before I went to the hive of scum and villainy that is Wal-Mart, that is. I watched 8x1-8x3. I am being a good girl and waiting on netflix discs for the rest of 8.

But I do love me some angstiest spies ever. I have managed to see the end of season seven, though.

(also, really, show, WAY TO RIP OUT MY HEART THERE)

Ahem.

I am not better, as in, not-sick. But I am... less sick? idk. I feel better, but maybe this is like that euphoria you get before dying or something. (er, not that I am dying)

But I was so focused, I forgot about Primeval's season finale. Oh well. I'll have to watch it tomorrow. And Nikita, come to think of it.
lyssie: (Annabelle is a Rock Star)
The best thing about marathoning Spooks is that I then dream in spies. Or I wake up from a dream and start giggling. Because Jo got captured and Malcolm was all "no, it's totally ok, she's wearing a tracker and they'll never find it"

When Harry presses, Malcolm admits to them putting wires in her bras, replacing all of the underwires in case anything like this ever happened.

(you can all imagine my glee when first introduced to Jo and going "pls, can we keep her?" and then we got to, and she fights dirty and is sadly background now, but still awesome)
