lyssie: (Monica doubts your commitment to anythin)
1. I do still exist, I just sort of got distracted and stressed with month end close hitting right after DragonCon and the lead up to it (since I'm still covering the bulk of stuff J did as there's no new hire yet; and may not be, given the future is still sort of up in the air for where this company is going).

2. So. DragonCon happened, and it was excellent and a blast. I saw a couple of different panels, and watched Eddie McClintock (Agent dude from Warehouse 13) be hilarious. A lot. Also, even though they're probably doing it for the crowd, Joanne Kelly & Jaime Murray totally ship Myka/HG (and possibly Myka/HG/Pete, when they're bored). Eddie was also the best Masquerade MC I've seen. Gina Torres is apparently getting a Suits spin-off for her character, which is awesome for her (I don't like lawyer shows, but that is still good news).

3. Jacqueline Pearce has died. This is sad and depressing, as I loved her so (Servalan holds a dear dear place in my heart; not to mention her Big Finish character was smashing, too).

4. Eight is one of the snarkiest audio Doctors, and I love him so (I occasionally forget he's snarky, and then he zings out with something, and I'm like "OH EIGHT")
Choice quotes from randomness:
"We can't go around making unmotivated prison breaks."

"I shall find out by using my super Time Lord powers of looking out of the window."

"How do you feel?"
"Like I've been beaten up in an alley-way and then fallen down a drain into a psychadaelic underworld."
"That happened to me once." (Eight being the first and third commenters; I assume Fitz was somehow responsible, myself)

5. I sort of accidentally fell down the rabbit hole of shipping Molly/Sherlock. :/ It wasn't intentional, but now I can't really help it (possibly it's that like Mac and Caroline I just want them to go round making out everywhere, investigating dead bodies, solving crimes and not shooting people. idk). It's especially intense for the Victorian era, for some reason (I blame the sex voices they both use in their first meeting. And the sniping. If she'd pulled a gun on him, I might have been a goner the first time I saw them together)

6. I have yet to untangle my thoughts on season four (I keep intending to and then not and then Mary drifts across my brain, and I'm incandescent with rage and the futility of it and frustrated). It's a bit like how I haven't managed to watch the last two seasons of Person of Interest.

7. Scandal in Belgravia still continues to be a most effective wake-up at work. I wish I knew why. It's not like I ship Irene/Sherlock (well, not in Sherlock, at least? and let's be real, my Ritchie Holmes OTP is Irene/Mary with both of them bowing to convention with John and Sherlock and then devolving into a poly relationship that sometimes includes letting John and/or Sherlock have sex with them while they steal things or solve crimes. Whichever strikes their fancy and dammit now I'm typing this, I am going to fucking finish that Irene/Mary hen party fic if it's the last thing I do), or even think it's that great an episode (the denouement of the plane continues to make no fucking sense, time-wise. It really doesn't). But for some reason, any time I'm drifting off, if I scroll down and play any portion of it, I'm wide awake.

None of the other Sherlock episodes has that effect. :/

8. I am still hopeful for new Doctor Who. I've not actually managed to make it past the pyramid one in season eleven (I'm told it's the low point, but I just hit a point where I just didn't care so I stopped). Also, I'm pretty sure I have an unhealthy attachment to Clara Oswald (she was my all the world). I like Bill, but I don't really click with her - I didn't click very well with Donna in her season, either (I know, shocking, eh? I loved Runaway Bride, but actual companion!Donna left me cold until Turn Left).

9. also, that time that Ace and Seven almost got married continues to remain a thing of beauty (Dark Husband is not considered a good BFA, but it is so so hilarious and awesome).

"Underwater sundials at night are more accurate than the TARDIS." (but she always gets them where they need to go!)

10. Er. There is no number ten. Probably.

1. Really. Bowie and Rickman in one week? Was it too much to ask not to spread them out a bit?

2. I am officially caught up on Doctor Who. Points to me for not stopping until I'd made it all the way through. No points to me for taking so bloody long.

3. I have also, disturbingly, caught up entirely on Sherlock. I blame the bushy-haired tall dude. Because he's not as tall as Trucco and Tahmoh, but he is tall, even if he's a bit odd-looking. (ok, also, Mary. And Molly.) and that voice, god

4. I should write up review things about the above two points, but they might entirely consist of "Can I have one?" (Clara) and "Can I have one?" (Sherlock). (ok, I'm not entirely that shallow)

(mostly)

5. In other news, I was listening to Spooks at work the other day (as you do, when windows keeps cuing up the episodes), and I realized that Tom Quinn is still the Angstiest Spy Ever, but Adam definitely gives him a run for his title. And as a whole, Harry's team really are the Worst, Most Obvious Spies. (also, Harry says something in a fourth series episode about not wanting to play god and I practically fell out of my chair. REALLY, HARRY. REALLY) And Ros, Ruth and Jo remain my favorites--if I had to quickly pick a team of women to storm the world, they'd be it. (and possibly Molly Hooper for medical backup. Or maybe Martha Jones. I can't decide which)

6. Like, a month ago I went down and visited [livejournal.com profile] aj and [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat, and there were potatoes and latkes and long conversations and it's been way too long since I'd seen them. And it was amazing to hang out. We all agreed that we are not too old for fandom, and that it sometimes is a bit scary to think about how long it's been since we entered said establishment and/or met each other (for reals, every time someone on my flist talks about the age of their children--if they have them--I suddenly am like "shit, I remember when...").

7. Christmas happened, saw parts of my family. Didn't see others. Drove a Ford Focus down and back, and it was lovely. (my sis and bro-in-law almost spoiled me for DW s9 and the xmas special, but I was all "la la la, can't hear you" at them. And then my sis was saying that she didn't get Elementary, 'cause Joan Watson sounds wrong, and I almost said "them's fighting words" but got distracted 'cause Joan would be like "...whatever" and go solve crime)

8. Watched the recent adaption of And Then Where None and thought it was very well done. Dark, gothic and very compelling (even if the music was occasionally a bit much). I also managed to not want it to end the way it did (and for once, fandom gave me presents in that the pairing I wanted to read is about the only thing out there--I know they are awful, awful people, but I ship it like I shipped everyone in Crimson Peak, ok)

9. I fell down on the job with keeping a booklist over the last year, so I've no idea what I read over the year. Perhaps I'll manage better this year. The only thing I remember is re-reading Georgiana again (I can't help it, Georgie is ridiculous and forthright and clever and she shoots him this one time, that's like Lyssie kryptonite served up with milk chocolate truffles)

10. I really have to stop with the parenthetical statements (even if they are fun, this is not prose, dammit).

(sigh)

So, anyway, have been watching TV and such.

First off, I have now seen all of Ghost in the Shell: SAC season one. AND OMG. SO GOOD. So. Very. Fucking. Good. Major/Batou? So very canon. *snickers madly* More in-depth review at another time. Along with post season one ficcage.

Second... BOBBY! Criminal Intent is being played all over the damned place now (I love Bravo, it's my new best friend). And so there is Bobby on my screen (ok, right now, it's All Creatures Great and Small, but, still...)

They've done new Sherlock Holmes's with Rupert Everett as Holmes. The directer had a fascination with feet. It was kind of pathetic, and a little over the top. But omg, the bad guy was CREEPY. And, dude, Holmes was being Bobby. ! It was disturbing. He was! He was doing the Bobby thing where he was playing around with crap in the crime scene!

Side: Holmes/Watson? First co-depentant OTP. Followed by Kelly/Nick (Dark Justice), and others.(Scully/Mulder, Taylor/Creegan...)

Then there is more Bobby, of course. OMG. And NCIS. Have I mentioned that I like NCIS? Caught the last half of one we hadn't seen before. Was amused, as always. sigh. I think I will always love this show.

Am now reading the Hardy Boys. OMG Iola Morton dies in a car bomb! Cue clones, redheads, and the Grey Man.

ETA: OMG. Pat Troughton was in tonight's All Creatures... HAHAHAHAH
