Dear Chase,

It sucks how you totally lost the memo about how Strong Female Characters do not have to mean Damaged Women Who Couldn't Possibly Have a Full Life Without Past Abuse/Alcoholism.

I liked you more when you were canceled.

no love, me.

idek.

Outcasts. Don't know what I think about it, having seen the first episode--I think it's a reserve judgment thing (or a "write a novel about Fleur and Karina pre-series" thing.) Yay for Hermione Norris having another job?

Chase has been canceled, as far as I can tell. I shouldn't be surprised. Just disappointed, as I am with these things.

I suppose I should listen to BF audios or something. I'm done with Foyle's War (or as much of it as I want, right now)--and Lynley holds no appeal at the moment. I suppose I could listen to Zagreus again, but I expect the cracktasticness wears off quickly if it's listened too often.

Bed early, I think.

Also, note to self: don't forget to take an hour lunch tomorrow and take that stuff in.
lyssie: (Maggie Collins is more awesome than you)
Yes, I have watched all ten available episodes now.

It's possible I'm giving the show too much credit, but I really do like it. Especially since a lot of the time, it's basically got women being awesome.

Favorite moment ever? Annie talking a high society wife who was hysterical about her husband getting shot into saving herself by first barricading the door, then breaking the window and jumping out so she could run to the neighbors.

I just. THIS SHOW, YOU GUYS. Any other show, that woman would have been dead/broken something/been shot/raped/whatever.

(it's been a long time since I watched a show where women weren't treated as constant Sex Objects, so it's a bit disconcerting)

This isn't to say it's perfect, mind. Just... not fail, like SVU is with its constant "LOOK AT THESE HOT RAPE VICTIMS" camera-work.

Spoilers, I s'pose:

It's a bit In Plain Sight meets Saving Grace meets Fringe, but with the dry "case" feel of Criminal Intent. Though, uh, not as much of the icky side. I'm pleasantly surprised (five episodes in) by the lack of "to show how evil people are: rape happens (but only to women, of course)!"

Shockingly, the show passes both Bechdel, and the other test (where two COC have a conversation every episode).

I love the fact the show basically says "Annie may be tiny, but she is our hero, now stfu and let her save the day"

And I may ship Annie/Daisy in that back-of-the-bar-random-sex way. and Annie/Ben, hey, there were handcuffs involved!
