I dwell...
Jun. 11th, 2003 01:43 amY'know, it's been a long time since I watched Willow. And there's a great deal to be said, really. It's still a good story, holding up to the passage of years and my own cynicism.
The characters are much less unknown, though. Because they're recognisably Lucas' Star Wars people. Farmer (Willow), Rogue (Madmartigan), Princess (Sorsha). Does the man never have any other trio as the Heroes? We even get the Darth Vader (General Kael) type, the Evil Emperor (Queenie Bavmorda) type, and a host of Allies and Enemies in between. And Yoda. We get Yoda, too. (Fin Raziel)
For all that, it has some lovely lines.
"'I dwell in darkness without you', and it went away?"
Yeah, I'd be pissed, too. Too bad Sorsha didn't maim him completely.
Of course, I'm highly amused at the romance. It's very shoe-horned and given only so much screen time. Which is silly, since it's NOT a Great Love. I mean, honestly, you know the only reason Madmartigan's still there at the end is because he knows she'll kick his ass if he leaves.
This is not to say they couldn't end up being great together.
But not that fast.
Hrm. Cherlindrea could be Yoda. Raziel could be Obi Wan.
Not that it matters.
The end of the movie is happy and shiny, and way too perfect. I felt like I needed to brush my teeth with acid.
I still like it, though. *g* Sap that I am.
And, at some point, I shall have to investigate the little purple plot bunny that's eyeing the carrots in my head.
Dude. I can just see Aeryn saying it to John, though. "'I dwell in darkness without you', and it WENT AWAY?" ... Yeah, Aeryn, see, John's had this little rethink...
