It's disturbing what my mind resets to, when I'm tired. The Sound of Music, for instance. Standing at a bus stop singing various bits of various songs.... I think I scared people. Especially when I began filking them. With Farscape characters involved.
This is not as difficult as it sounds. One thing I've noticed with Farscape is that *everyone* as mad as I am. So. Insanity works.
Listening to Farscape is interesting, however. So much of the music is so well-crafted. Even if at least two pieces sound exactly like pieces of music from Blake's 7 (I could re-watch, note the pieces, re-watch B7, and tell completely. I could even play both tapes at once...). Again, sound effects seem to match. Sadly, the great example is escaping me.
But the parallels are clearly there. There are changes, yes. Farscape is a much more recent show. They're allowed to get away with more.
Basic premise: A band of 'criminals' roam around the universe in a high tech ship, avoiding the Law. There are two or three main villains (who occasionally fall into being 'almost' good guys). One of them is a dark-haired woman who dresses provocatively. The others are various, but include at least one man obsessed with our Leading Hero (John Crichton, or Blake).
Characters;
John Crichton (Blake, with over-tones of Avon's cynicism). Earth obsessed, with decent leadership skills. Mental acuity. Gets tortured and injured.
Aeryn Sun (Jenna Stannis) Smart, brash, sarcastic. Our Hero is obsessed with her. (Blake technically wasn't. Neither was Avon. But you always wondered...)
Zhaan (Zen). Calming peaceful personality. Helpful. (Zen, btw, is the Liberator's computer. But he isn't Pilot. Pilot's more volatile).
D'Argo (Gan, with some of Tarrant) Once married, wife is now dead. Strong fighter, intelligent. Quick on some of the uptake. D'Argo, however, has no limiter (the grand-daddy of Spike's chip). Good friend to Our Hero.
Rygel (Vila Restal) Cowardly, smart, likes food (and women?). Tends to hide when the going gets tough.
Pilot (Orac) Helpful, yet sometimes more trouble than he's worth.
Moya (Liberator) High-tech ship with self-healing capabilities. We all cried when Liberator was destroyed. How many sniffled when Elack (sp?) went?
Chiana (Cally) Brash, agile, has a special power. Chiana is the way Cally should have stayed. Sadly, it was still the late 70s.
Jool (Dayna) Over-eager youngish type. Good with combat. (*sincker* Dayna was very young. And Jool is so VERY perky...)
Sikuzo (Soolin) Outsider, who's willing to investigate both sides before choosing one to owe allegiance to. With Siku, I'm still unsure, of course.
Grayza (Servalan) This one is... so close, in some ways, that it's kinda scary. Uses sex as a control, in command of those around her (especially the men). Has been bested once (at least). Kissed Our Hero (John. And Avon...) Considers Scorpius/Travis rather like a mad dog that must be put down.
Braca (Leitz... Just about any of Servy's flunkies) Helpful, sometimes idiotic (Does the woman have to do everything herself?). Willing to cross own underlings..
Crais (Travis 1) Obsessed with Our Hero for a past wrong (Crichton accidentally fries his brother. Blake nearly kills Travis).
Scorpius (Travis 2... I'll explain in a moment) Just as Obsessed. But for a slightly different reason. Travis, however, ends up deciding to commit genocide with the help of a far-off alien species...
(The Travis Explanation: Two actors played the character. One a more military-looking, harsh hawk-like man. The second was a bit softer, more rounded (not pudgy, just.. not completely skinny). The second was slightly more jovial, and more insane.)
The Law:
The Peacekeepers (The Federation) Militaristic, fascist regime. Uses drugs for pacification (Actually, I'm guessing on the PKs for that last. I know the Feds did).
Differences:
The women are allowed to be much stronger (save Grayza. Servy kicked ass and took names *without* frelling glands. Roll over and play dead, sweetie).
More differing in the alien races (B7 was almost exclusively human).
Crichton is NOT a revolutionary (Blake was).
No teleportation devices.
Moya hasn't died.
There has been a secondary ship, but Scorpio doesn't compare to Talyn, or the ancient Leviathon.
Wormholes.
So. Now that I'm done feeling all intellectual, who's for tea?
