While driving home, I was thinking about Disney princessing-up Marvel comics. And I came to a disturbing conclusion: that might be better for the female characters than current editing trends.

Disney (princesses):
1. Leads.
2. Kick some ass.
3. Sometimes get saved. Sometimes save themselves.
4. Allowed to have a life, and a romance, and aren't shamed for it.
5. Sometimes do non-girly things, like reading. Or swashbuckling.

Marvel:
1. Secondary or tertiary characters.
2. Kick ass.
3. Maimed, killed, raped, de-powered, shoved in refrigerators... sometimes saved by men. Sometimes save themselves.
4. Romances always end horribly. Children are retconned out of existence, marriages are erased, or husbands cheat.
5. Sometimes do non-girly things. Like go insane. Or stalk their ex-lovers. Or kill a bunch of people because an ex-lover is manipulating their minds. Or are evil twins. Or are evil clones. Or...

Hrm.

I think I'd be ok with the sparkly-ing up of Marvel's women. At least they would have more of a fighting chance.
