Oh, Blake's 7...
Apr. 2nd, 2009 12:03 amIt... is odd, watching it now. Because I can pick out just how much of my formative years and likes and dislikes were influenced by B7.
My love for women who run around, shoot things, blow shit up and affect the plot? check.
My love of sarcastic anti-heroes? check.
My love of snarky women? check.
My love of rebels and people who think outside the box? check (Blake and John Crichton could give each other tips on crazy-ass plans).
My love of space battles? check.
Explosions? check.
Women using power and manipulation to kick ass (in a non punchy-way)? check.
"Oh, of course! When two men get into an argument, it's just that they don't like each other. When it's two women, it must be jealousy!" <3 <3 <3 <3 (Soolin, being sarcastic, in 1981... And the new BSG? Still doesn't get how frelling insulting that is)
My love of PILOTS? CHECK, I used to have such a THING for Tarrant... Though Jenna was certainly my gateway drug.
I remember, when I was young, that we'd run around pretending and such. I'd demand to be Jenna Stannis, or Soolin (I was blonde and bossy, dammit). We used to make teleport bracelets out of Construx (does anyone remember Construx?). And yell for Orac to teleport us up...
sigh. And after nearly 30 years, the gender politics in SF television are actually worse in some ways.
