we'll grow as grass under our feet.
Jan. 7th, 2009 06:17 pmI was thinking about Southerncon on my way home (it wasn't Bodicecon, though, as Bcon didn't have Frito and Hly at it). About the bit where we all piled into Epona's flat and some of us were attempting "Whose Line Is It Anyway?". Some with more success than others.
Of course, at the time, I had no idea what it was.
Both cons at Epi's introduced me to things. Bodicecon made me watch Farscape (season one for two episodes and then Crackers... Not that any of that at all hooked me. It took the concerted efforts of
drake57 and the entirety of season four to roll me over, under and declare me done). Scon made me curious about Whose Line...
But, yeah. Just thinking about it, and how it's been a while since I've seen everyone who was there. Fandoms change, I suppose. So do things like message boards and IRC chats. I can remember being incandescently angry when some old guard person wandered into #subcafe one night and expressed shock that we were still around as said person had gone off to the hinterlands. And now I barely remember to go there.
Insidetheweb dying took our message boards. And Livejournal took any of its successors, because an eljay is far more interesting to log into than some stupid message board (I always did prefer the ITW way, sadly).
The #drwhochat split from DAL also contributed. Sure, mIRC came out with a new version that could run multiple servers, but it wasn't quite the same.
Also. On another note entirely, there is snowglobe snow outside. Bleh.
