I close the door and turn the key...
Sep. 27th, 2003 07:49 pmSo, I ran errands today. The first of these was to locate the comics store that is, supposedly, in Festus.
If you're smart, you read the previous sentence and no I didn't find it. This is true. What is also true is that I spent about 20 minutes driving on a two-lane country road.
I swear, if AJ, Timey, MCW and Drea had been there, I would have been in fucking Wisconsin for CampingCon. That's how desolate this road was. Ups, downs, turns, twists, a farm... And Westinghouse.
*headshake* It was, however, fun. Because my car? Kicks.
The comic store abandoned, I headed for gas. And stopped at Fashion Bug. Sigh. Bad idea. At least I can use the clothes I got, though. Next stop was the used bookstore my parents had seen. It wasn't bad, as used bookstores go, but there really wasn't any soul. Still, they buy books. I may go there again.
From there, I was off to the Comic City on Watson, where I paraded my list at the quarter bins, and came up with several more Warlock issues, some Avengers, and.... Sigh. Captain Marvel. Timey, you never TOLD me they were written by FABIAN. As if I could pass up a comic with his name on it.
Went on to the other comic store (after a side-trip to mail my paycheck and get some chocolate milk. And get rained on while there was a rainbow. I love rain), where it was closing, but I discovered that the bastards are selling off their quarter bins at 10 cents a comic.
After that, it was more rain, and going south again. Where I discovered the other used book store.
This store, unlike the other, was not pristine and neat. Floor-ceiling shelves packed with books. So many books they were spilling off the shelves and in boxes stacked next to the shelves. Booklover nirvana, man.
Of course, I investigated, proving this was a superior used book store. They had a whole section of Regencies, for one thing. For another, they had Teresa Edgerton *and* Ru Emmerson in the SF/Fantasy section. And a ton of DW novelisations.
Happily in heaven, I headed to the front to buy the three books (two regencies, and Elizabeth George's Deception on His Mind). Where I discovered that the proprietess is a Farscape fan.
We talked a good ten minutes before I had to leave. And she didn't know the rumours of a miniseries, so she's happier.
I love the rain, by the way. There's something primal about wind and rain that tugs at me, makes me dance and giggle. I'll stand there, out in the wind, my face up.
Anyway. Came home through the storm. It's been stormy all day. Love it.
Talked to dad. Cleaned some stuff.
Now I'm here. Hrm.
I HATE other drivers. I need a Car-disintegrating Laser.
