I give up...
Oct. 8th, 2001 01:54 amYou are all going to have to just tell me in chat/email if anything momentous happened. Either that, or I'll read the last three days another time.
Anyway.
I am in a much froodier frame of mind than I was this afternoon. I can attribute the mood to quite a few things actually. Not the least of which WAS the impression I was getting at the con that everyone was 'dancing in the streets' 'cause we were bombing Afghanistan.
The second was the tiger cubs. A Safari Park group was the convention charity, and they'd flown up with two baby tigers. Their eyes weren't open, and they constantly cried for their mum and food. Probably about two weeks if I'm any judge. The cubs were on display all weekend, and you could hold them and get your picture taken with them/etc. for a fee.
I have no clue whether that's bad for them. I'd assume it's close to using and abusing adult tigers in entertainment performances.
I did actually, at first, try to assume the con committee had had nothing to do with it. Nope. I lied to myself. They did. In fact, they want the cubs back next year, when they're bigger.
Ah. Exploitation at its finest.
Third. I was a member of a skit in the Masquerade contest. We did a GOOD job. The crowd adored us. But we won nothing. The people who did win were (from what someone who watched it, who said WE rocked...told me) incomprehensible and rather dumb.
I know, logically, that there really is only personal preference on the part of the judges to account for much of it. But. I also know that Archon is BIG in being the most politically charged con in St. Louis. EVERYTHING is politics there.
Can I give examples? Not really. Should I put up or shut up?
Uh. Yeah. I have so MUCH free time to spend running a convention and three-fourths of the clubs in the St. Louis are.
I find ignoring the convention to work the best. Staff and committee can fuck themselves sideways, for all I care.
No, this isn't coherent.
In other news, I've met Virginia Hay. She's a lovely sweetie. Hopelessly ditzy, but lovely. (Zhaan on Farscape)
I have Lord of the Rings posters. And temporary tattoos of the Ring inscription. It looks nifty.
Fandom--especially here in St. Louis--has always prided itself on being more accepting, more tolerant, more intelligent than the rest of the world... And these were the howling baboons who were happy we were bombing. I expect that from the fuckers who live in my neighborhood and sell drugs... Not from the people who have probably grown up ostracized from society because of their religion/hobbies/race.
Eh. Who am I kidding?
People suck.
Anyway.
