ficlet: SG: Atlantis, Should Auld Acquaintance be Forgot, episode insert BAMSR
Disclaimer: not mine.
Length: 600+
Set: This is a missing scene from 'Be All My Sins Remembered'. It's actually the one scene I felt cheated of, watching the episode.
Notes: The title is pointless, but amusing. Also, I accidentally named the file 'ballmy-insert'. *snickers madly* (there are two other scenes that should have been in the show, but this was the one that made me snicker, a lot). And now, I shovel snow.
Rating: Oh, yeah. Um, PG for implied possible violence?
Warnings: Women being more awesome than men.
Should Auld Acquaintance be Forgot...

Standoffs weren't all they were cracked up to be. Teyla stood behind Sheppard and Ronon, and cursed the Wraith, if only in her head. In front of them, Larrin and her people had accurate beads drawn on all four of them. For his sins, John was attempting to negotiate, and Larrin wasn't really listening--not that Teyla blamed her. There were times she would rather not listen to the Colonel, herself.
"This is getting us nowhere," snapped Teyla, moving to the fore and leaving Ronon to cover her back as she knew he would.
"You're damn right it's not," Larrin replied. She didn't gesture at the Wraith, but her anger was clear, "You come onto my ship and you bring that?"
"It couldn't be helped!" Sheppard defended.
Larrin gave him a look and replied, her tone sarcastic. "I'm sure it couldn't."
For some reason, Teyla found herself almost liking the woman. Her anger was understandable, given the Wraith were the enemy in this galaxy. However, there was a larger issue at stake, and Larrin needed to be made aware of it. "I understand your distrust, but either you listen to our explanation, or you let us go. Unless you plan to kill us where we stand?"
Larrin's gaze settled on her, and something almost like a smile crossed her lips. In that moment, Teyla relaxed. This woman was not going to kill them, she was merely playing, if that term could be applied to such a situation. It was a game that Colonel Sheppard was losing, badly. "Your friend has a point, Sheppard." Her tone implied Sheppard did not.
"So let me explain." John tried a half-smile on her.
"Say please."
Teyla fought down a smile, as Sheppard bristled.
"Please."
"All right." Larrin gestured and looked at Teyla, her gaze sweeping past to Ronon before it hardened as she noticed the Wraith again. "But just Sheppard. The rest of you will remain here."
"You wish to borrow Colonel Sheppard?" Teyla hazarded, having a good idea that it wouldn't go so smoothly for John.
"I promise not to kill him."
Teyla's smile slipped free a little, and she tried to keep her amusement from her voice as she replied, "We would be most displeased if you did."
"Hey!"
"Oh, I can imagine." Pointing at Sheppard, Larrin beckoned, "Come dazzle me, if you think you can."
After they had gone, leaving two men to guard the jumper, Teyla glanced back at Ronon. "Well, that went well."
"You think she'll torture him?" Ronon sounded disinterested. He was still half-pointing his gun at the Wraith, as though really wishing he could get away with killing it without destroying the alliance.
Teyla moved to the bench and sat with a soft sigh. "Probably not, though John may think it is."
"You like her." It wasn't a question.
"I do not dislike her." When Ronon merely looked at her, Teyla continued, "She is a woman leading her people and remaining strong, doing her best to keep her people safe. It's an admirable trait."
"Even if she captures and kills us?"
Knowing what she would have done under similar circumstances, Teyla replied, her tone calm, "Yes." The Athosians may have been far more peaceful than Larrin's travelers, but they had been just as paranoid of strangers.
Ronon looked at her, then at the Wraith. "Maybe she's right."
"She is not." Leaving it at that, Teyla pulled an energy bar from a pocket, more than a little hungry after the long day. Somewhere, she was certain Dr. Keller was making that face that said she wasn't pleased with Teyla's lack of care for herself.
And somewhere, Teyla was also certain Larrin was carefully not killing John Sheppard. She wondered briefly what it would entail, than dismissed the thought. She had more important things to think about--planning his rescue if Larrin didn't return him, for one.

I wish we would have seen more Teyla last night that wasn't baby angst.
Oh, and quick typo check: "She is a woman leading her people and remaing strong,

Yeah. I was really disappointed--I get that there's only so much they can give each character, but (especially this season), it seems less and less is given to the women--and now I will shut up and not rant. Sigh.
Argh! That was because I re-wrote the line after spell-checking. *headdesk*

On that note, where the hell was Keller? I wanted some Keller screentime so we could, y'know, establish that she's not just a replicator.
Plus, I like her, damn it.
A little less Rodney and Shep, and more womenz, please?
