Dresden.
I caught on pretty quick there was either body swapping or a switch of identities--but then, that's something I have a fondness for. Liked him getting shot at and beaten. Wanted to smack him for continuing to lie to Murphy. Who really should kick his ass to the curb and tell him she won't speak to him again.
KARA.
Let's get Gaius out of the way, yes? I... really didn't give a shit about his stuff. Torture, blah blah, nightmares, blah, not a cylon, blah. The visuals, at times, were really really pretty. But I found myself getting bored and moving back to the computer, at one point. That is not a good sign.
Hell, if it weren't for the Kara/Anders subpolot, I... would not actually be talking about this episode. Much like I pretty much ignored The Passage. It was boring, it was fairly run of the mill, and I've seen better torture on Next Generation.
OH. But, it was all made better by Caprica pwning Mom in the Special Scene at the end. *hearts her beloved Caprica SO MUCH*
I may say that I find the Soap boring, but I don't find all aspects of it boring. Kara and Sam? Rock my world SO MUCH. I would like to marry them both. I find the Lee and Kara aspect yawn-worthy. I find Dee and Lee heart-breaking. She really does love him, and, I think, he really does love her. He's just really frakked in the head when it comes to dealing with women and relationships.
So.
Lee. Let's start with Lee, 'cause I want to kick him in the head a lot. Lee loves Kara. Lee loves Dee. Lee is obsessed with Kara. Lee is blind about Dee. I think he's also in a tailspin of indecision over what to do--and so he's drinking, instead. It means he doesn't have to deal with Dee and he doesn't have to deal with Kara. And he doesn't have to think about the implications Sam's comment had. Lee isn't the first. True or not? If she cheats on Sam, what's to stop her cheating on him?
And then Dee says she's leaving. In not so many words, but she walks out of his life after telling him their marriage was a lie. And that's just GREAT, for him.
Now he's in an even worse place.
Kara asks him to leave Dee. And he stalls. He isn't sure, he can't decide, and Kara mocks him for that and walks off.
So he gets drunk and plays with his wedding ring. And then he loses it, and it all crashes down. He can't save his marriage, he can't even save his frakking ring, and he isn't even sure what to do about Kara.
And that's when he decides to take some responsibility. He tells Dee it wasn't a lie. He does love her--he loves Kara, too, and he can't change that. But it's Dee he married. (though, in the end, that's also a false premise, because Kara was already married and unavailable).
Dee. As I've said before, Dee is trying to keep her marriage together, but even she has a breaking point. And she reaches it, and tells Lee that their marriage is a lie and walks out.
And as much as I want her to hit him or beat him or rail, Dee is not a physically violent woman. Self defense? Yes. Hitting her husband? That's unthinkable, and domestic abuse, in her mind. I honestly don't think she's going to take him back this easily. Not unless, I don't know, Sam hauls Kara off to live with him...
Kara. Anders. Anders. Kara. I can't deal with one without the other, but I'm going to start with Sam.
Sam has obviously been talking to Lizardbeth, SamanthaMarie, and I. 'cause, wow. His conversation with Kara? Was ripped right from us. Not to mention: They finally acknowledged that Sam and Kara actually fucking talk! They talk! Like real people! And she's told him about Leoben, right down to him being the 'fake husband'! HAH.
They talk, and he prodded her about her destiny. And then said, "Go have Lee. I'll wait." And she said, "...what?"
And Sam 'Not Quite Machiavelli' Anders wanders into the play.
He tells Kara to go to Lee. He leaves the door wide open, but he also is kinda pissy and she stops him for a goodbye kiss. And then he pulls out his ace in the hole. Sam says, "I love you", kisses her again and goes. And she's pissed. She's pissed at him and herself.
--Sidenote: HOW AWESOME was that line? "Your estranged, two-timing bitch of a wife gives you a call for sex and you hop on the first shuttle?" Yeah, I'd call that accomodating too, Sam.
He meant it, btw. He does love her. He does think there's something fucked up about the fact that he survived all that time. And that she survived. And he's right: they didn't survive just to give up on their marriage.
Then there's Kara and Lee's Wishy-Washy Divorce Pact of Pointlessness. Which ends in Kara throwing up her hands and deciding Sam is far more decisive.
I would like to note, also, that Sam dressed up to come frak his wife.
Unless he's a gigolo on the side.
ANYWAY. Then there is the bar scene, where Sam suggests he can leave (I think? On second viewing, it's not quite so clear, Skiffy's sound is fucking awful for BSG and Dresden), and Kara can have Lee... And she says no. And there is smooching. And cuteness.
And laughter and shots and invading each others' personal space. AND WEARING MATCHING SHIRTS.
And. Seriously. My otp wins. They're so hot! Also. Remember those promos that came out? Those are from this episode. The barrels are from the bar, and the shirts.... Yes.
Mmm.
I think I have said enough. Yes.
Maybe Ron will get back to not having fanfic on my screen in two weeks? Zarek'll be there...

But OMG! Kara. And Sam. So shiny. So good. I loved that first conversaton even more than the final scene in the bar.
I really hope it means quadrangle of doom is dead.
no subject
That first conversation made me flail and squeak and go, "We've written/talked about that! OMG!" And then he kissed her.
HAH. Like Ron loves us that much.
no subject
I totally thought of your meta during the L/K scene. It's not that Lee said no...it's that he wouldn't say yes. (But Sam KNEW.)
no subject
Sam gambled, and he won. This time. *crosses fingers*

At last! We know what he does on that other ship when he's not with Kara! :)
It was good to find out that he's on another ship when he's not in Kara's bunk.
And you know my favorite part? When Kara takes out her DOGTAGS and dangles them. Because yes, same song, different verse. But he played it a little differently.
I thought Sam said, "We can leave, if you want." when they're in the bar, because she's just looked at Lee and seemed uncomfortable.
Um, what else? oh yes, Sam knew about Leoben! More than he could've guessed just from looking at the place, so yes, she did tell him something about it. which I like, a lot.
But if Lee had been a little more on the ball.... Risky game Sam was playing there.

I now need to see if he's wearing the tag at the end.
Ack. I think he may have. Damn. Still works, though. *gleeful*
Not just that, she talked about it BEFORE this episode. Because this was totally a booty call, and he's getting dressed when he said, "I've been thinkin'..." Damnit, why don't we get to see them just TALKING more?
Very risky. But Sam isn't going to box her in.
no subject
The timing is a bit odd on that though. So, they're clinching in Rapture. She gets her hands fixed up, Helo brings the pic and she remembers "Leoben. Destiny. Shit." Then what, she goes to Sam and tells him? Then he goes back to his other ship, after they had this rather intimate conversation? it's kind of weird, unless there was another fight, Lee moment, something in there to break it again. And yeah, I wish we could see them being, er, normal. Talking.
Exactly. That's what frustrates me with the 'passive-agressive' criticisms of Sam. Because, yes, it's somewhat valid, but what is he supposed to do? He tried a mild, sort-of ultimatum with the dog tag and she walked away. He knows he can't force her to the decision. Hell, that's at least part of the reason she married him in the first place, because Lee was backing her into a corner and she couldn't handle it. Sam slapping down an ultimatum, him or me, would result in 'him', every time. Kara has to feel she's come to the decision on her own and I think Sam understands that (not that he's unwilling to nudge her, though).

My new wacky theory is that they talked about the Leoben stuff sometime prior to UB--the house stuff, anyway. AND. And, the thing is, Leoben told her about her Special Destiny way back in FNB, so maybe they talked about it during the Year of NC. But the painting stuff? I'm wondering if they had a conversation before he had to go, or something. Arrr.
I'm also trying to understand why Sam was 'stupid' to MARRY THE WOMAN HE LOVED. Because I've seen that in a few places, and it just.. WHAT.
I demand more conversations. And laughter. And getting in each others' personal space and the little sounds they make when they sort of surrender (Kara won, during the kiss in the bunkroom--he makes this little noise! arr!, but Sam trumped her with "I love you" and then she looked so broken and stuff before yanking the curtain back over).
no subject
The Leoben House Party conversation definitely could have happened earlier. Maybe some nightmare induced confession? I don't know; I have a hard time imagining Kara spilling it without some kind of catalyst. I suppose the "Bastard said I had a special destiny" thing could have come out at the same time. But yeah, it's weird that he knows and when he found out. Good weird, mind you, but I think it's upsetting my carefully constructed fanon. Bad canon, no cookie!
Yeah, Sam was stupid. Because he's psychic, yo, and he should've known that Kara and Lee are "meant to be" or some such. Whatever. As long as the stupids keep away from me, I'm fine.
no subject
Canon just looks cutely at you.
Dude. I am fastening on Sam's little noise of surrender when he was kissing KAra--and before he said "I love you". Which. I am also all fastened on. And clinging to.

I'm betting part of that happened before EoJ... I'm wondering if that's part of the reason she was pushing him away (only Just Sex, Sam)?
Damnit. I want the deleted bits of their breakup scene in Collaborators.
no subject
And I'm writing Sam meta today, so keep an eye out. :)
no subject
...why do you both have to have long names? Typing is hard! (also? our OTP is still very very hot)

Kara and Sam are so good together. And it seems RM agrees(for now).
Poor Dee, I hope she doesn't regret giving Lee another chance. If he blows it again, I don't care, she better kick his ass!
no subject
I am waiting for Ron to screw with Kara and Sam again. sigh.
no subject
That's nothin'. You should see him in the books. I find myself watching the series and thinking, hey, this must be what he does on the slow weeks, when there's nothing really serious and messy going on. :)

I thought at the end, in the bar, Sam said, "We can leave." I sort of took it to mean that he and Kara were back together, and that Sam accepted her feelings for Lee and if it bothered her to see Lee and Dee together, they could get out of there, but together. And Kara, although it obviously bothered her a bit, was basically okay with that and knew she had to get over it.
For all that happened in that ep, it was sort of slow moving. I kept looking at the clock and sighing, even though I wasn't specifically bored per se...
no subject
It really was, sadly. We kept looking at the clock, going, "Dresden Files didn't take this long..."
no subject
Shh, you're not suppose to tell. lol.
Gotta love the Kara and Sam cuteness last night. It pretty much kept that episode from blah territory.
no subject
This is true. Explosions would not have bored me. Torture? Does. Especially when it's the constant, talking heads type. And also? We've seen all of this moral dilemma for torture back in, oh, season one. sigh.
no subject
Lee -- welcome back. I almost wanted to kiss him last night for finally realizing that he has a good woman in Dee(that scene where he lost the ring was painful to watch). And that in the end, he really couldn't be sure if Kara would stay with him or just frak him over again.
I could have done with less of the Baltar torture stuff though. Just tell me if he's a Cylon or not, and get on to his trial. I wish they would have used the CapricaSix/Roslin footage in the ep. Yeah, Zarek's back for the next ep. It's about time he came out to play.
no subject
And then Kara mocked it, so I was better.
Not only is it back, our OTP kinda stole the entire episode with their awesome hotness.
AND THEY TALK. They talk about important shit, like LEOBEN.
Losing the ring was a wonderful catalyst that made it better... YES. Hi, Lee! *waves*
Caprica should have been in the episode. It would have been AWESOME.
no subject
Throwing the destiny thing into the conversation makes me suspect even more that he might be a Cylon. Back in The Farm, Sharon did tell Kara the Cylons could set her up with someone she liked. It also seems to me the "playing house" with Leoben bit was about her accepting a Cylon as a mate for the new world order coming where the Cylons and humans are going to be living together. To me, that Cylon isn't Leoben, and since she already has a husband...
Or maybe I just want him to be a Cylon so there are many copies of him because I want one.
no subject
I vote that you just want one. (Your theory is intelligent and such, I just do not want him to be a cylon)
no subject
And your OTP totally wins.
Maybe Ron will get back to not having fanfic on my screen in two weeks? Zarek'll be there...
We can all hope and pray.
no subject
They kind of do. With the hot and the laughter.... *happysigh*

Shot at? Try getting shot. I liked that. Gotta love the whumpage. He's so cute. "Hey what do ya know. I'm alive. Saved by the tools of the trade. The sheild bracelet I inherited from my mother. Thanks mom." I love the way he said it. For some reason it amused me :D

no subject
I'm quite the opposite. I'll analyze Kara until the space cows come home, but give me Baltar over Sam/Kara/Lee/Dee any day. The Kara/Anders scenes were nice enough, but Lee Adama becoming a drunkard is not more important than Roslin's torture-time fun, not to mention Gaeta.
--Sidenote: HOW AWESOME was that line? "You estranged, two-timing bitch of a wife gives you a call for sex and you hop on the first shuttle?"
Heh. I misheard that as "your strange, two-timing bitch of a wife".
And. Seriously. My otp wins. They're so hot! Also. Remember those promos that came out? Those are from this episode. The barrels are from the bar, and the shirts.... Yes.
Your OTP does win. I'm starting to ship on this show. They're so happy together -- and almost functional!
no subject
It's funny to watch the writers go, "We completely have NO IDEA what to do with Lee."
I wasn't sure what it was, at first, but on
manyone or two re-watches, I caught it right.THEY TALK. It scares me. But they talk. And. And. I didn't expect them to. I also feel kinda cheated that we did not get to see them talk more. Sigh.
no subject
Think they'll realize that if you do something with the fleet the characters' actions will all follow from that? I hope they realize that very soon. And more explosions!
