I'm sorry, but I started laughing at the brainwashing bitchslap to the face. I'm just a mean person like that and was relieved to see the fake child subplot would not be dragged on forever. Dear Kara, learn math. Casey was too old to be yours. The Cylons might have made a direct clone of you, using your DNA, and they probably did try to make a hybrid (and failed like always). Casey was a good girl. Her mommy taught her not to talk to strangers.
It will be interesting to see how Kara deals with the unjustified shame of being brainwashed. I will be glad to avoid fandom reaction though, because most people don't understand the psychology of true brainwashing which involves involuntary coping mechanisms. You and I would not be immune. Well, I might be a bit but only because I'm borderline schizoid which allows me to compartmentalize and dissociate to a high degree. Most people can't achieve the necessary mental shut-down to avoid triggering the coping mechanisms.
But, yes. I meant to reply to your ealier comment and then forgot. I understand the theory, I think I'm just running up against my "NO BABIES" button. (despite having written completely sappy fic in regards to this)
And it should be interesting to see. Probably by pushing everyone away.
Oh, Ellen was great. You know how I suck at movie references? Well, I caught that one, because it was from a play. When Romeo leans over the poisoned body of Juliet, at the pulpit of the church. (And then he dies... at least a little bit inside). Her execution was hasty and unnecessary in the face of larger problems. Anders owes the piper for that one, because Tigh was Ellen's Galactica.
When it comes to canon, I have a "no babies" button too, because the writers invariably muff it up in attempts to be emo. Like over in that book I masochistically read, where the baby is all right but the entire premise for it is ludicrously offensive, trumped up real world texture. But it's okay that your favorite female character acted like a fucking retard because babies are cute! "Stuff" happens, right?
Maybe in real life. In writing it means the author is manipulating reader response and we shouldn't notice the buttons being pushed. To make matters worse, Kara just got the standard temporary baby plot. You know, the one where the female character is overwhelmed by maternal love only to have her hopes crushed into motivational angst by the baby's death/removal. Eww.
