So, I've been thinking about this...
Red Dwarf has canonically covered a bunch of fanfic cliches.
1. Mpreg.
2. Bodyswapping.
3. Genderswapping.
4. AU.
5. Meeting AU version of self and having sex with said self.
6. Time travel.
7. Time traveling backwards.
8. Unexpected marriage.
9. Mood/personality alterations leaving said sufferer changed... And liking quiche.
10. Alternate of obnoxious character shows up and is cool and suave.And calls people Skipper
11. Finding True Love, losing it, and getting it back... albeit from a different dimension.
12. Life forms genetically engineered to provide pleasure. (suddenly, I have Vila saying, "Let's hope they've all got good legs" in my head)
13. Becoming your own father.
14. Killing Kennedy.
15. Creating a copy of yourself.
16. Playing pool with planets. Ok, that's not really a fic cliche, but it is damned cool. Why don't more people play pool with planets?
17. Simulant androids that kill (they like ripping off your head and spitting down your throat).
18. Silicon Heaven. (c'mon, BSG should be all over that)
19. Nanobots which heal, recreating limbsand complete spacecraft and crew.
And etc.
So, er, why don't more people remember this show? Or was the obnoxiousness too much? (seriously, the Farscape fans should be all over Red Dwarf, as it's Farscape's step-uncle what slept with its mum at one point and then scared Farscape with its tales of gelfs and simulants...)
Also, if someone writes me Rod meets Ace fic, I will be highly amused.
