I emailed her once with some spelling corrections (everytime I see 'loose' for 'lose' I want to scream), and she told English isn't her first language. *shrugs*

I find it impossible to believe she's a medical professional. I can't imagine anyone who's actually dealt with the victims of physical/sexual abuse saying, "Well, hey, at least he loves you and you love him. Imagine how much worse it would be if you didn't love each other."

Yah. No way. No way whatsoever. Perhaps psychologist, but only in the sense of MAYBE having graduated with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. Not in the sense of in ANY way being a licensed psych, let alone a pscyhatrist with a medical degree.

That's an advanced medical degree, I dunno. Not the easiest thing in the world to get. And there's no way, if she were, that she'd view rape as just "a bad affair" that wouldn't put a woman off a man. Victim mentality is a form of mental illness. If she were a psychiatrist, she'd be treating people who'd been abused and raped, and she sure as hell wouldn't be saying "Don't give up on him if you love him, that's okay, then".

Saying "But I SAID they were OOC!" doesn't make the fic better; it's excusing bad characterization. If you really, really have to, and you're not a literary genius, do a Mirror Universe fic. It's not like they aren't canon in SGworld.

But none of those are the worst things in the world. A good writer can twist canon and make it dance the way she tells it. A mediocre or bad writer can't. It's just a failed literary attempt.

Portraying rape as part of an OTP true-love relationship is contributing to the societal myths that women secretly enjoy rape and it doesn't really hurt them, and that rape is about sex and love instead of violence and dominance. That, at a minimum, a borderline misogynist action, and a severely misogynist viewpoint.

Odds are a fair number of her readers will be date-raped; a fair number of women are, on average. How many of them will feel like they're able to report it, and how many will somewhat uncomfortably try to shove it away with "Well, he must have really wanted me, I guess... if he cares that much, I guess he didn't do anything wrong."

Well, yeah. It's not a very believable lie, is it? A psychiatrist would recognize that loving your abuser is an unhealthy codependent behavior verging on Stockholm syndrome, and is something to be cured, not called "love".

And not only that, but wouldn't a psychiatrist delve into the real behavioral and maybe ethical issues that this whole story would involve? That's really more a rhetorical question. :D

And it's not all that bizarre that she'd lie about the psychiatrist thing. She's taken some criticism for her story and doesn't like her taste of it, so she's inflating her credentials to give her the authority to squash the criticism, and figures no one will know the difference. It makes her a real piece of work, but not a bizarre one.

You know, I'm trying to read this story, but I'm having hesitations about going further. As a rape victim, who knows what I may feel or think. And how can a psychologist call rape "hot sex?" This is beyond me.

Ok, I'm writing this as I read. One: I know this is adult fic, but could a more tasteful vocabulary be used? It's reading to me that animal instincts and desires are taking over rather than a loving desire for her.

Two: He wasn't a man to want and not take what he wanted? WTF?! Jack's not like that, please! And already that reads, "You don't give me sex, I'll rape you." Nice, lady, nice. *note the heavy sarcasm*

Three: Yes, Jack would say fuck. He has quite a low vocabulary to use 'specially in the work area.
