(actually, I'm thinking I need a "Bitch, please" icon to deal with Telkena)
eta: And. She has fans. It's scary.
Ahem.
Dear Feminists who ranted about the depiction of women in Sin City. Get your panties out of their twist and GO AFTER AUTHORS LIKE TELKENA, who is doing nothing but raping canon, her characters, and portraying Sam Carter as a woman who likes to be abused and raped.

No fucking way.
Then again, I have LJ friends who work/worked for the APA, and hoo boy, they have a ton of wacky customer service stories...
So it could be true.

See, stupid people claiming to be psychiatrists are part of why the field has a bad reputation.

When I read that I burst out laughing. Oh, Telkena? LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE!!!
*clears throat and grows up again*
Most psychiatrists have *some* clue about the effects of sexual assault...
A psychiatrist's receptionist, maybe.

Yes, to shoot you in the head with. (Or else she can go out the airlock with the rest of the nutcases.)
Why is it that some people don't seem to understand that fiction is still supposed to be plausible, and fanfic is supposed to be at least based off of canon?
no subject
Ignoring canon for less than literary genius is bad.
Saying "But I SAID they were OOC!" doesn't make the fic better; it's excusing bad characterization. If you really, really have to, and you're not a literary genius, do a Mirror Universe fic. It's not like they aren't canon in SGworld.
But none of those are the worst things in the world. A good writer can twist canon and make it dance the way she tells it. A mediocre or bad writer can't. It's just a failed literary attempt.
Portraying rape as part of an OTP true-love relationship is contributing to the societal myths that women secretly enjoy rape and it doesn't really hurt them, and that rape is about sex and love instead of violence and dominance. That, at a minimum, a borderline misogynist action, and a severely misogynist viewpoint.
Odds are a fair number of her readers will be date-raped; a fair number of women are, on average. How many of them will feel like they're able to report it, and how many will somewhat uncomfortably try to shove it away with "Well, he must have really wanted me, I guess... if he cares that much, I guess he didn't do anything wrong."
And it's okay because she says she's a psychiatrist? That's the worst part.

Okay, this is why I hate "happy" rape-fic, het or slash. The cluelessness and utter stupidity of said authors is just horrifying. (And that goes for published writers as well as fanfic writers.)
"Oh he raped me but I love him and we will live happily ever after fic" is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
Grrrrrrrr...

What do you say to someone who enjoys being flamed because then she gets to have a really big number of reviews showing for her fic?

She basically told Splash that it was okay for Jack to abuse Sam because he loves her, whereas it wasn't okay for Pete because he... doesn't? And you know, Sam *hurt* Jack just as much as he hurt her, so it's even now. Jesus.

I will admit to one MISTAKE: i should have kicked Pete's ass more. That's for the sequel. And YES THERE WILL BE ONE, for all those who asked.
*cries and gets it out of her system*
Okay, who asked? I'm making a list. It's a very serious list.

Two: He wasn't a man to want and not take what he wanted? WTF?! Jack's not like that, please! And already that reads, "You don't give me sex, I'll rape you." Nice, lady, nice. *note the heavy sarcasm*
Three: Yes, Jack would say fuck. He has quite a low vocabulary to use 'specially in the work area.
His tone turned playful even if his eyes were still pained. “It’s that easy Carter. You’re a smart woman, I’m sure you can figure it out. Do the math…”
Ummm... does this make any sense to anyone? It certainly doesn't to me.
THis is bullshit. If Sam was going to be a proud woman, she would end the relationship because she would NOT have a man hit her. SHe is not some piece of rag for someone to just wipe himself all over and throw aside. THAT is pride, folks. What's in this story is sheer stupidity.
This Telkenna woman's got her own past issues. It's coming out so clearly in her writing. There are some things in it that I know I would've written had I never overcome and become that prideful woman as I described above. Yeah, if I, the weakest and most pathetic of all living beings, can be proud and strong to say that no man will touch me disrespectfully or belittle me, then Sam is absolutely the one who'd be that.
WTF?! She had not missed one day at work. She had not asked for medical leave.
Umm, I recall earlier that she called in sick a couple times. Which, btw, if we wanna get technical, that's not allowed unless you have a medical record of it. Amen for my bro being a Tech Sgt. in the Air Force.
Yeah, I've stopped reading after getting halfway of part 2. Sorry for wasting space. This stuff is crap.

It is good to know that I was correct in thinking there was wrongness in the story.
Sigh. This story still disturbs me on so many levels. I think the biggest one is that there's a lot of romance novel romanticisation of rape out there. And women lap it up.
Grah. I think I need tea.
