SG-1 fandom, you are full of stupid. Sam Carter is not a ruined, useless, character because, one time, she had a thing for a male in her vicinity.

Seriously. If you think she spent x number of seasons pining for Jack, shut the fuck up and think about how stupid you sound. (why can't I punch stupid people through the internets?)

Because heaven knows nobody in fandom has ever gotten hung up on an unattainable man?

Because the galaxy just kept saving itself while Sam Carter sat around 100% dedicated to her pining? She didn't blow up any suns or anything, she just pined?

Because Jack O'Neill didn't do an equal amount of this "pining" himself?

Even as a Sam/Jack shipper (um, with very specific rules in my head, I'm not one of the "screw the regs" crowd, not that I judge anyone or begrudge them their entertainment either and disclaimer disclaimer) I'm not willing to believe that Carter spent a detrimental amount of energy on this "pining" and she certainly was less affected by it than Jack, who developed said feelings earlier, and put off all other relationships longer.

And as for the word-choice "pining" -- just no. She had feelings, which she handled responsibly given the circumstances. She didn't throw herself at an uninterested party or dedicate her entire life to fretting over her love life at the expense of all else, Bella Swan* style. Jeez.

*Bella Swan is a) a teenager, b) has no significant responsibilities, and c) is a character in a romance, and therefore is allowed to pine all she wants.

Exactly. I'm not going to lie, I like the ship and I really need to dig out the complete series I bought and finished the rest of it. However, even if there was some romantic interest on both parts (which, to me, made for a more interesting dynamic), Sam clearly didn't pine for Jack and it didn't ruin her as a character.
