random tv/book catch-up
1. The Secret History of Moscow - I'm enjoying this, but taking my time, as I feel as though I'll be left with nothing else to read if I finish it.
2. Nextwave: Agents of HATE volume 2: I Kick Your Face HOLY GOD WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE? ahem. ok, so it's not that earth-shattering, but it is still terribly hilarious. And wrong at times. It also has a mental soundtrack composed of Venture Bros/Cowboy Bebop tunes. (I might also ship Elsa/Tabitha/Monica in a quasi-we-don't-do-relationships way
3. La Femme Nikita. I'm really hoping this show stops being uninteresting and, um, pointless soon. Also, I'm not sure I can suffer Nikita's horrible bangs for much longer. (I managed the pilot and the second episode, but the third episode was eye-rollingly meh and I stopped in the middle) It would help, I expect, if I liked any of the characters.
4. Defying Gravity. I was holding off until I had all of the discs. Smart move, on my part. I've ripped through nine episodes so far. I really, really like it. Women! They talk to each other and have impact on the plot! I love the shifting back and forth between training and the missions, and even some of the set design. And I'm such a sucker for team-bonding and silliness, and this pretty much hits all of those kinks at well.also, the femslash, it writes itself
5. Pretty Little Liars. You know, I keep seeing people complaining about how Glee treated the lesbian sub-plot, and here's PLL quietly meandering on with its own lesbians (bi-racial lesbians, one of whom could easily be bi as well) and no one's watching it. I find that hilarious, but unsurprising. Emily's family is painful, but well-written. If only Ezra would get hit by a bus. (this show fills me with such gleeeee. =D)

5. If only Ezra would get hit by a bus. Pretty much my feeling toward Ezra and his ridiculous relationship with Aria...at least in the episodes I watched.

5. Yeah. I mean, Aria's at fault, too. BUT SHE IS NOT THE ADULT HERE. OMG.

Whoot! Though, you might hate it, so.

5. Emily/Maya is one of my favorite stories. I agree her parents are being well written, even if her mom isn't the most likeable. I like that even though she's not accepting it and Emily, she hasn't beat her or thrown her out of the house or anything like that. It's a happy medium of sorts. They can deal with the issues of parents who have problems with their kids being gay, but not have her mom look like a complete monster who's irredeemable.
Also, yes, Ezra needs to go. Well, he's kind of pretty, so he could stay if he never speak to Aria again, but also manages to become relevant to the plot. OK yeah, that's not going to happen. Maybe he should just hook up with Alona Tal in two weeks and run away with her. Everyone wins.

5. Alona Tal, whoot!
I don't feel sympathy for her mother, though I do think her reaction is the sort my own mother would have (with more comments on God's feelings).

Most of my crankiness over PLL is that I know that if it were a show filled with men, there would be watchers. Even if it were on Showtime/Starz/HBO.
Hrm. It is a cable show, though. I thought it was actually airing on network tv, but apparently not.

5. I keep meaning to watch it, but have too many shows already. Eventually.

5. I know! I think I'm mostly annoyed at the fact that there just isn't much of a fandom.

5. There are too many ~girls~ in the cast, right? *headdesk*

I love that the characters have multiple levels of friendship with each other. Some are really close like Jen and Zoe (both of whom I love). Other's are just basic friends and then there are people who don't particularly care about each other. I also loved seeing men and women being friends without "OMG Sexual Tension!" like Zoe and Ajay. I like that you get to see the relationships grow and evolve. And y'know I just loved the whole fucked up Zoe/Donner thing. That's just right up my alley ship-wise. I just really love almost everything about the series.
Don't know if you've seen this, but to the interview about how the series would have progressed after the first season: http://cliqueclack.com/tv/2009/10/29/how-defying-gravity-would-have-progressed-straight-from-the-creator/

I did read the interview (and the follow-up/update). And, um, while I liked some of it, some of it made me slightly... less than happy.
