sff: Lost Girl 1.13
So, Lost Girl season finale.
I found it frustrating. There were parts that I liked and parts that I didn't.
Bo was all over the map for me, one moment playing her mother, one moment just wanted her Mama to live. I just. I couldn't get a handle on her for some parts of the episode. Her anger at her abandonment, I get. But the insane need to have her mother love her, just... what.
And I loved her throwing her foster mother in Aoife's face. Even though Bo's only mention of her before was that she was strict and religious.
Kenzi was pretty much awesome the entire time. Just. So awesome. Even though she has NO IDEA what the greater Fae world is about, she prodded Trick into doing his thing, which is pretty cool.
Hale. Such love for him, even if he didn't get to do much.
Lauren. FINALLY, someone remembers that Lauren and Bo should have a conversation. Not that they did, which is very frustrating. I sometimes wonder if Bo realizes that she herself has 'claimed' Kenzi as hers to protect. I imagine it's very similary to Lauren and the Ash, the difference being, he and Lauren understand the full weight of the implications and Bo hasn't ever bothered to ask. (and her grabbing Bo for a kiss and continuing to break the rules for her? Yes, love)
And that's sort of one of Bo's problems. She has no interest in this world she's blundering around in, her way is always right, even when the others are trying to tell her the reasons that she's not. I'm not saying she can't be right, but that there's a whole weight of history she's ignoring that is getting people around her killed.
It's also frustrating that this weight of history is all in the mouths of men. There are few women who know the score who are even involved with Bo, outside of The Morrigan and Aoife. The former has another job on Covert Affairs and the latter isn't very sane and is also not someone who fell in line with the New Order's plans.
Dyson. I like him, despite his "I am Male And Shall Save You, Frail Woman" bullshit. I'm so so glad Bo called him on it, even if he didn't listen. I'm not as glad that Bo forgave him so fast for LYING TO HER FOR HOWEVER LONG, though. I mean, that's a betrayal that cuts pretty deep. He's known all of this time about her mother, and he didn't tell her? Kudos to him for finally doing so, but no cookies for taking until he was In Teh Luv with her.
Trick. I'm frustrated by him. I'm frustrated about the things he says Aoife couldn't forgive (why did she lead her own faction against both Light and Dark? What is the history there?), and that he was so willing to lie about Bo's mother for so long, but we're supposed to feel sorry for him.
What did he hope to accomplish, keeping Bo in the dark? What did he hope to gain there? This is like Willow, with Bo being Elora Danaan and Everyone Else Knows Best. Except that Bo isn't a tiny baby, and there's no Bavmorda trying to unmake her.
I had thought that Trick was hoping Bo would shake up the Fae world, bring them to a sense that preying on humans was wrong, but I'm not so sure anymore.
I'm also angry that Bo can't fight her own battles. Men had to save her, men whom she told to fuck off, had to use their magic/strength to save her. Because she couldn't do it on her own. I don't even think the show realizes how insulting that is. And yes, there was a price exacted (and Dyson isn't really very bright if he didn't expect that), although I'm not sure what Trick's is going to be, or if the price exacted is Aoife being 'cured' of 'madness' and then sent back into sexual slavery (GOOD JOB, THERE, SHOW) where it will all begin again anew.
Aoife. She's the Grayza of Lost Girl, but with less motivation. I don't know why she's insane, I don't know why she didn't fall in with the "let's have peace" hippies back in the day. And the show doesn't care to tell us, as, apparently, being a succubus is reason enough to go insane.
I want to like her, but I don't know her. Like Bo, she's all over the board. WHY IS SHE INTENT ON WORLD DOMINATION?
That makes NO SENSE, show.
And then there's her whole captivity thing. What. THAT was the best you could come up with? "I was a sex slave for centuries and that's why I'm nuts. Tee. Hee." I don't even know, you guys.
Then Trick's male magic cleanses her brain of madness and she's all lovey-dovey mama again. Ick. Until proven otherwise, I'm gonna assume that was Aoife cutting her losses of the moment, knowing there'd be beefcake to spirit her to safety once she landed down there.
I also feel cheated of an Epic Battle, as I like those. And Bo and Aoife really didn't have one. It was mostly just a shoving match that ended with stairs. There, of course, Bo and Kenzi didn't use a lot of sense--standing up isn't going to provide the best leverage, there. GET ON THE FLOOR, you idiots, and you can pull mama up that way. Sigh.
Then the ending happened, where Bo and Kenzi high-tailed it back to the Light Fae to help with clean-up and reassurance that evil mama was dead.
Only they didn't. Instead, they went and recapped the episode with some beer in their house.
Sigh.
I mean, I love that Bo and Kenzi are BFFs? I just feel that it's a bit shallow for them to not even call and make sure people know everything's safe (also, what were the Dark Fae doing this whole time? Did they get a package from Aoife, too? See? Frustrated)
So, I'm waiting for season two to find out what happens next, but I'm not really holding my breath. Especially since I think there's going to be lots of "Bo tries to make Dyson love her and there is woe" crap.

SO many good points here and ITA with them all. I LOVED Bo calling Dyson on his crap and telling him she needed to fight her own battles but I HATED that the show didn't actually let her do it! Granted, mama knows more about their powers but why not have Bo take her down in a hand-to-hand combat kind of way? Or have mom win the fight but mere moments before she kills Bo, let Kenzi sneak up and distract her so Bo gains the upper hand? Instead, the menz had to save the day AGAIN and I feel like there were two reasons for that
aside from the fact that girls can't save themselves or each other, didn't ya know?: So they could set up that ridic storyline where Dyson's lurv is stolen from him and so the audience would be more willing to forgive both Dyson & Trick because they saved Bo.So, I'm waiting for season two to find out what happens next, but I'm not really holding my breath. Same. I don't mind Dyson/Bo having sexy!timez and being snarky with one another but I feel like the show is trying to sell them as these epic soul-mates and just...no thanks. I also have absolutely no interest in watching Bo pine after Dyson.
