lyssie: (kara anders porn happens)

for mistakes...

1. I'm highly amused at the anon BSG/XF kink meme. It seems to be mostly Roslin/Adama kink suggestions, with a side of Roslin kink requests and RPF. I'm vaguely curious if that has to do with Kara/Lee falling off the Most Prized OTP bandwagon, or if it's because it's mostly been posted around Roslin/Adama fans?

2. Unsurprisingly, despite the requests for non-con, rape fic, fic that makes no sense and kinks that make me go O.o, it's still a mention of Sam Anders that brings out the character hate. Man. Bitter shippers can't leave well enough alone.

3. Although, it has now brought us [livejournal.com profile] bsg_kink (the kink meme, not the pointless character bashing)

I find it amusing, as I was thinking recently that BSG never really has had a kink meme (you know, those places where people post requests and other people fulfill them).

eta: So, the owner of the kink meme has replied, and is totally OK with the Sam bashing. Don't you just fucking love this fandom?

eta2: I'm told the character-bashing has been frozen/deleted now. yay?

There is NO WAY an anonymous kink meme could be run in BSG fandom without wank. None. Because the fandom is peopled by folks who think tantrums are a legit rhetorical move.

Srsly.

Oy.

HAHAHAHAH. Good point. Sigh.

I just wish there were any other character being bashed, y'know? As far as I can tell, only Sam is fair game.

It's just. Lyssie. How do they go through life with ZERO dignity like that? IDEK.

Well of course he is. They have some Issues, you know. *says the part-time Kara/Leoben shipper with a leer*

*snickers*

it doesn't help that my current mental image is Leoben leering at Sam while Kara snickers helplessly.

Oh, that is nice. Sam giving her the puppy-dog eyes because it's too embarrassing to actually say, "Save me from the weirdly hot Two!"

Do you think it's gotten worse in the past year+ as more and more shippers migrate from Skiffy to LJ? I feel like the culture of the boards is a recipe for constant wank. And at least at first I remember being impressed by how mature LJ culture was in comparison to the message board from whence I came. Or was that just my newbie cluelessness?

I... I don't know. Perhaps it's that it's less flocked now?

And, well, anon memes tend to bring out the batshit wankers, as they know they can get away with it.

[identity profile] frolicndetour.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the anon thing is a good point. I just feel like - in light of my last outing as crusader for internet justice, also -I've seen a lot more of the "I accidently stumbled upon some Kara/Sam shippers who liked the finale and OMG I am so oppressed, help me shipper nation!" And it reminds me of the Skiffy boards. Which is sort of like saying that bad things in general remind you of hell, so... possibly no real connection there. ;)

*edited because crusader for internal justice makes the kind of sense that doesn't.

I WAS SORT OF WONDERING, OMG.

HAHAH.

Dude, what the hell are we supposed to do, WAIL AND GNASH OUR TEETH? That would get in the way of the porn.

[identity profile] prozacpark.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
This is true. For I considered breaking my 'no wank' rule to cause them more shipper pain. But I disclaim the batship wanker part of that. :)

It's just that it doesn't pull you into that constant back and forth bickering through e-mailed comments that compels you to keep at it.

I don't get it. What is it about Sam that's bashable? He's awesome!

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
You're asking me to explain something I've never understood. (to be fair, most character-bashing leaves me going, "....???" as I suck and have the unfortunate tendency to love everyone or at least like them.)

[identity profile] dashakay.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's the thing--call me a relentless Pollyanna, but I pretty much like all the characters on BSG. Sure, I like some more than others. For example, Lee really isn't my favorite, but he has his moments and I'd never bash someone else's love for him or desire to ship him with another character.

Character bashing just reminds me of the bad old days of X-Files fandom on Usenet, when certain Scully fans and Mulder fans would go at each other with hammer and tongs and I'd just sit there, going, "Is there something wrong with me because I like both of them?"

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I occasionally have my moments of wanting people dead. And to be fair, two people I actually wanted dead are... dead.

But I usually blame the problem on bad writing, and hit Ron with a frying pan.

(how can anyone hate Mulder or Scully? :/ They are so dorky and adorable, and sometimes Aaaaaaaaaaaangsty.)

eta: sentence structure is not my thing, apparently.

Bashing the unbashable

[personal profile] auroramama 2009-05-26 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's just it. He's usually awesome, almost always a nice guy, and always pretty. When a character like that gets in the way of a ship, vitriol ensues. (Heck, TWoP posters hated him just for being presented as Mr. Perfect. But most of them got over it.) Non-bashable characters are seen as the showrunner loading the dice. Hating them becomes a flag of independence and superior judgment.

You can't even write an AU in which he's an evil spouse-abuser, like some Riley-hating Buffy fans did. It just won't fly.
