lyssie: (Racetrack is hot)
lyssie ([personal profile] lyssie) wrote2009-03-22 11:54 am

I.... I.... (because, this must be shared)

But I have to say I liked it until the end. . . . But I do have to say I absolutely hate it when
authors start making up things about characters such as their sexuality when nothing about that topic has been mentioned before. I feel like you are ruining the character. Sorry but that's the way I feel.

I got this from someone on ff'net. Someone who objected to me writing subtexty Racetrack/Seelix on the end of a Kara/Sam fic.

I've seen this objection from people over boyslash, but over femslash??? !!

I am so sorry I've offended them. Really. And now I really need to go and write some more, because I've got nothing better to do. ;]

Also. One wonders how they missed all the other fic on there with speculation about sexual orientation...

So, we're only allowed to write about things that have been explicitly covered in canon? Isn't that kind of ... missing the entire point of fanfic?

And forget filling in the blanks of characterisation, relationships, plot holes ... I wonder if there's some list of Allowable OTPs And Subject Matter she could helpfully pass along to us? It seems like it would save an awful lot of trouble ;)

[identity profile] dashakay.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
But...but...isn't that the WHOLE POINT of slash?

Please.

Write more, please!

And het fic, really. If you haven't been shown any preference, don't just assume (and a large portion of flemslashers pegged Seelix as gay a long time ago, angsty gazes at Anders aside).

Which, come to think of it, proves that Seelix has at least shown vague preference for the opposite sex. Though maybe she just likes really tall people and Racetrack had already dibsed Helo (and Three is a Cylon and poor Billy is gone).

Oh, Lyssie. Don't you know that if a character has been shown in a het relationship in canon that's the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

For shame. How dare you assume some characters might have other facets to their love lives. :P

[identity profile] meresy.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, you know if NOTHING has been noted about relationships in canon than slashing them is making more shit up than putting them in a noncanon het pair.

Yep.

Bisexuality doesn't exist. Ever.

I guess we were required to have them kissing girls and stating they were lesbians before it's allowed!

Though, I hope I'm right in thinking the commenter would have objected to a het pairing with either of them, as well. Otherwise, extra special fail.

Judging by the stupidity of the comment in any case?

I'd bet against you.

She doesn't want you gaying her characters.

Sadly...

I wonder if she'd object to me hetting gay characters? Probably not.

Hahaha. That is... special. We get s lot of argument over character sexuality in the RP world... but amusingly, the one thing everyone agrees on is, if there is nothing in canon, you get a free pass. I suppose this snowflake thinks you should never put anything in fic that isn't canon ever. She must like reading really, really, boring fic.

HAH. Yes, see, I agree with that one.

Also, there's coffee cake on the stove.

I mean, go within reason for the character, but that goes for anything.

Woo. Coffee cake!

Thirded. If it makes sense (because, well, some characters... they're so straight it's not funny, and some are just so NOT straight, it's going to go against the grain for them to suddenly be straight), I don't have any problem with it.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
what's funny is that, for, like, a few hours, I was all flaily about having to justify my tendencies. It was very disturbing.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
D:

I felt the same way the other day when I had the TEMERITY to say I wasn't into a specific fandom's predilection for slashing its main characters and someone on my flist decided that meant I must clearly be REALLY SO ANTI-SLASH PERIOD EVER that it merited a de-friending even though I've known them for years and they're not even into said fandom at all. It's really fucking irritating. I'm like, um... yeah, whatever.

Sigh.

Never. That epic Cally/Caprica piece I am not actually writing could do? Never happening. All the Kara/Lee/Sam/Leoben fic? A bad bad bad idea... tsk.

Er.

('Not so Lonely Among the Stars', which, admittedly, is almost all Sam and Kara and groping)

[identity profile] timjr.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
That what now?

[identity profile] endlesswonder.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
YEAH. WTF how dare you use your imagination?

*points and laughs at the stupid*

I wonder how far this extends. Like, does Gaeta's gayness count as canon even though it was only revealed in the webisodes? I'M CONFUSED.
