Dear fandom,
Shut the fuck up.
eta: No, seriously. They have said they are sorry, that they suck and are lousy at communication. WHAT THE FUCK MORE DO YOU WANT? BLOOD?

I'm not angry about the 48-hour wait between the beginning of the suspension and notification from anyone who actually knew anything; but I'm concerned about notes to off-site press before bothering to make anything public at all. It just bred rumors and fury where a brief note of *something* could have brought some measure of calm.
I'm sorry Lyss, but to dismiss it as "oh, fandom's being tetchy again" is blind and quite frankly bullshit.

Uh....yeah. About that underground.
Hi, sorry to barge in, but I feel compelled to respond to your comment here.
LJ changed its TOS during AdvertisingGate debacle in 2006; Six Apart has shown us again and again that they're going to do that, so this is somehow news? Were you upset back then? We learned back then that Six Apart was a corporate entity that would likely eventually break every single promise that Brad ever made to his user base. Ideally, corporations should be responsive and responsible to their customers, but to expect LJ to do that after Six Apart bought them is a little naive.
I hardly care about it on a fandom level; I want to know why SA succumbed to Dominionist propaganda, why they deleted first without checking -- effectively warning true pedophiles while libeling innocent abuse victims and literary/fashion discussion communities.
Because I'm sure that WFI didn't come screaming to Six Apart, trumpeting their Dominionist agenda; it took a little digging to find that out, based on everything I'm reading. Regardless, even with people that are almost diametrically opposite to you and me in political views may occasionally find common ground, such as "child abuse is bad." Predation is bad. LJ hosting comms and individuals that are known pedos is bad. Frankly, if anything, I fault LJ for not seeing years ago that this would eventually happen and police their own borders more vigorously. Yes, their out is that they repeatedly say they aren't responsible for content, but personally, I feel they should take a smidge more of a proactive approach to ferret out real life baddies.

Pedos are astonishingly easy to find online. Really. As someone who as predated, I've spent a lot of time online trying to understand what happened to me, and that meant, in part, looking for them online just to try to see how many of them actually are online. There are litterly hundreds of thousands of pedo groups and message boards online; you google a few known signifier keywords, and there they are. In two hours one night I turned up sixty one links to admitted pedo groups and message boards, and I was able to go in, see the content, read the content, etc.
There is an increasingly open pedo presence in the blogsphere, with the new movement to legitimize their orientation as normal and healthy. There are a few well known pedo bloggers have tons of links to outright pedo groups on their sites.
Believe me, it's not hard to find them. So I, in turn, will call this "ZOMG they're gonna go UNDERGROUND" hysteria bullshit.
What would you have had LJ do? *Not* suspend the real life comms? Once LJ is aware of illegal content, they're criminally complicit if they *don't* suspend it. Should they have left the comms and journals up?
Finally, I find your comment incredibly rude towards Lyssie, meaning the "blind" and "bullshit" part.

I obviously fail at fandom because 'OMG! deletion of Harry Potter porn comm' is hardly traumatic or earthshaking or anything I can get riled up about.
I've seen posts where people are demanding LJ show its good faith by having 'fandom people' (what does that even mean) help them run things. *roll eyes*
Also, I have people on my flist who write incest fic and are nice people, but to me it's inherently disturbingly sick. If LJ chose to ban them from it I would hardly be devastated.

Said company, btw, has some of the worst customer service ever, but is still making a huge profit. In fact, when the other grocery chain that was competing against them left town, they bought half (or more) of their stores. So, now they're pretty much a monopoly.
Anyway. *distracts with porn and angst* hrm.
