Fandom is still fucking stupid
1. If you don't like LJ's methods, then I have a simple solution for you: delete your journal and go away.
2. No, really. This isn't like someone living in the US disliking US policy and being unable to leave the country. You can just delete your journal, close up shop, and go away.
3. Why are you still posting about the injustice? I just gave you a solution.
4. FanLib must be happy that we're ignoring them now, to defend incest.

Would Starbuck or Carter delete her journal and go away?

Meh. I'm ignoring them because I've concluded they're silly and irrelevant.
The WfI wankapalooza, I'm staying out of because I mostly Do Not Care.

And I, as a paying customer of Livejournal, am free to express my distress with the company's capricious change of its procedures with these pre-emptive suspensions. That is also a legitimate response.
Fanlib? Honestly, that doesn't bother me. I don't think it will get off the ground very well because it seems rather starved for content. Again, the market at work. People aren't choosing to use it and isn't that exactly what you're talking about in 1, 2 and 3?

First, "Bushian America" is in decline. His approval rating is in the toilet and the conservative base is in disarray as it tries to reinvent itself for '08 and beyond. That's not to say that there won't still be moral crusaders and moral crusades, but the time for this level of histrionics was maybe the day after Super Bowl XXXVIII, not now.
Second, the problem with slippery slope arguments is that you can use them to justify anything. It's easy to paraphrase Martin Niemöller, but that doesn't mean that every single group, cause, or ideology is the first line of defense for our entire way of life, or that if we fail to defend them that we'll be next. ("First they came for the wife-beaters, and I didn't speak up because I stopped beating my wife...")
When people are actually going to jail or being denied habeus corpus over Wincest, I'll get concerned. That some person well off enough to afford a computer lost his LiveJournal account and is forced to post his trashy short stories on some other free website isn't exactly going to stir me to action, you know?

The Lolita one discussion one that got whacked should tell people it has nothing to do with fandom, except for those unwise enough to put incest, or child porn as an interest.

But Fandom is Speshul, donchaknow. We are all unique little snowflakes...

Sadly, it won't go away, because fandom thinks it's been stomped on. When it honestly hasn't.
Anyway. I shall post fic and stuff in a bit. To distract myself.

My only problem is how SixApart's handled it, what with the total lack of actual official statements about the situation. We're averaging, what, a major crisis every couple of months? And they still cannot get their act together when shit happens. That, more than anything, is what chaps my ass. Get a fucking clue, LJ.
(ugh, incest. ICKY.)
