Oh, mr. DeCandido...

Ahem. a list of names of bit characters from one of his novels.

Malcolm 'Mal' Kelerchian

Private Carver
Sergeant Vincent

Sergeant Hammond
Private O'Neill
newest recruit Corporal Mitchell

Corporal Flanigan
Sergeant McGillion

Dr. Hunnicutt.

Now, it's possible Mal isn't, well, a reference to Mal Reynolds. And I could be stretching Carver and Vincent as being Criminal Intent references. BUT NO ONE will convince me Hammond, O'Neill and Mitchell aren't SG-1 refs. AND MCGILLION, people.

McGillion wanted to be a doctor, but washed out. WHICH WAS OK. B.J. Hunnicutt was there instead.

And, of course, there's his novelization of Resident Evil: Apocalypse, in which we have Jack Carter and Sam O'Neill, formerly of the USAF - they evidently quit it so that they could pursue a romantic relationship... ^_^

Yup. I actually dragged A.j. to a halt in the novelisations section when we got together week ago last Saturday, picked up the book, flipped to the correct page and read it aloud. Just to amuse us both.

...Dude, he is such a cute little fanboy. But then, what do we really expect of the guy who wrote the Serenity novelization?

He wrote the one good Farscape tie-in book, too.

He and Katee will both be in Toronto this summer, at Polaris 21.

Dude, Keith? Big ol' screaming fanboy. I would bet severe amounts of money that he's meant every one of those references.

As do I. *g* (this just makes me want to pick up more random books he's written--also, he writes the kind of popcorn SF I like, without all the stupid "Omg! Look at my world-building! OMG!" artsy crap)

I could probably deal with look at my world-building artsy crap if it wasn't so amazingly designed to boost the author's rampantly overblown ego. Keith just tells a pretty good story.

Also, as far as I can tell, he's just a nice guy--I was on a Farscape list with him for a while, and he's got an LJ out there somehwere, and he's a friend of a friend. So it's not like we're so amazingly close, but I've seen him at a slight remove, and he seems quite cool.

Yeah, his lj and stuff are listed in the back. And he seems like a fanboy, which amuses me. Also? His Farscape book was the only one that was decent. And his one original novel--Dragon Precinct--is highly amusing. Cops and magic!

Also, do you think, if I go be all fangirly at him that he will write BSG books? Because he'd be so much better than Ron at making it work...

Ooh, you should go fangirl him for them. I'd buy those in a heartbeat.

WORD.

I also miss Deakins. He would be dealing with Goren's MAN PAIN so much better. And in a way that wouldn't make me want to slap him.

There would be none of this flaily "OMG FIX HIM" ness at Eames.

No kidding. And probably a lot more "HEY. Your partner is having a HARD TIME TOO." *THWACK* at Bobby.

ZOMG DEAKINS.
