SFS: quick moment.

Dresden when I get home (OH HARRY)
BSG: ...pointless.

So. A very large number of you know how much I hate Kara Thrace and her Special Destiny. But, y'know, I didn't realize that Kara's Special Destiny was to commit suicide.

Hey, Ron and Co.? If you wanted to get rid of Katee that much? Killing her off in Eye of J. would have been so much better. You could have then had Sam shoot Lee, and then Sam put on trial for war crimes. Because Sam? Far much better as a Man of the People. Unlike Baltar, who fucked them all over.

You could also have completely dropped the pointless Kara/Lee crap and instead wove in the Leoben stuff, so that didn't come completely out of left field. Making Sam be Mr. Exposition on Leoben was also a bit annoying. Nice to know his only reason for living is to tell Kara how much she should go to other men. Guess he's really just there to move that plot along, huh?

Kara's mom. You'll all have to forgive me, I've read far too much Mercedes Lackey. So, that was pretty fucking yawn-worthy, and even a bit wtf when Kara basically showed that, um, it was OK for her mother to beat her as a child. Good to know.

Good things--yeah, the ep had one or two:
1. Katee's performance.
2. The Leoben and the painting sex, plus Kara's orgasm while Hot Dog watched (oh, Hot Dog, you voyeur).
3. Sam showing up--obviously, she chases Leoben off with her husband. Pity that she doesn't follow his advice.

Actually, speaking of Sam. How much has he always freaked inside when Kara's talked about her mother? I bet there were times he went off and got drunk rather than think about it. Sigh.

All in all, the ep was about as crap as I was expecting.

Next week: Baltar's trial. 'cause we all want that. Yup.

So much to rant about, but I won't take up your space to do that. I'll save that for later when I can actually form some coherent sentences. The condensed version of my thoughts on Maelstrom...

1) Kara told Lee to let her go, and I don't think that was just about letting her go into the light. I think that was a big "forget about me and stick with your wife" kind of thing, especially since she was asking about how he and Dee were doing. To me, this ep was Kara's big goodbye to Lee because, sorry Lee/Kara shippers, Lee isn't her destiny.

2) Sam has the dog tag back. The "I'm coming back for you" dog tag. Because she isn't dead. She will be coming back for Sam. As Sam himself said in TABFAYW, they are destined.

3) Kara is in the space between life and death. She isn't dead. She's hanging out in the Kobol opera house with the Final Five finding out who she really is and what her destiny really is. She'll either be back at the end of this season or the beginning of S4 to tell us all what this grand destiny is. There has to be more to it than "you're so special because you're going to die."

Next week: Baltar's trial.

You're more optimistic than I.

I was going to point out the dog tag to you but someone already did. Hope that makes you happy :)

[identity profile] pretty-fits.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for the dog tag. But yeah this episode was pointless. But she gas to come back. I seriously doubt her destiny was to die.

[identity profile] bsgnightsky.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I gotta admit, I didn't find this episode awful. Then again I blanked out the bits with Lee, pretended the rest of the season didn't exist and tried to forget any glaring flaws instantly. I think cylon projection had a big part to play but honestly? I'm beyond giving a damn.

Ron - Stop trying to be the big fun cool guy on the TV campus. Go to your room, get online and study. No, not from Lee/Kara related sites, study the bigger picture. Good boy.

David - Get the hell out while you can. Go, make other TV and this time keep it good. You have long lasting potential. You will not do a Ron and succumb to Star Trek-like plots.

Can I start calling Kara, Sisko? And is it just me, or is season 3 a lot like Angel meets DOOL but in space?

Nah, just cynical. Maybe they'll keep hinting at it, but never actually get to the trial? I can hope...

Well, yeah. FINISH YOUR FIC. I might be a bit insane about Kara/Lee, but Kara/Leoben is hot.

1. Hadn't thought of that, but, um, wasn't really paying attention at that point.

2. I CANNOT BELIEVE I missed that. I just can't. I am, however, PISSED AS HELL that we didn't get to see her give it back.

3. I hate this metaphysical shit. I want my science fiction hard, dammit.

I think my problem is the same one I've had a lot: the plots are all one-episode long. There's no attempt at making it a larger story tapestry.

Yes. Call her Sisko. We can call her Buffy, too.

[identity profile] samanthamarie88.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
They actually gave a couple of good shots of Sam with the shirt unbuttoned and you can see the tag hanging. As with the "not leaving you" scene from Taking a Break that we didn't get to see, I do feel cheated out of the giving back of the dog tag. Did he get it back after their date at Joe's Bar, or did she give it to him before/after the sex in this ep since the oracle told her Leoben was coming for her?

I figured it out. There was naked Kara. I was VERY focused on her knees dropping just a little... Because, dude, otherwise? IT WAS DANGLING IN MIDAIR AND YOU COULD SEE IT WAS A DOG TAG.

I... do not know. I did, however, just write a ficlet. sigh. (I am such a sap)

I avoid TWoP, anyway. 'cause. Wow. What a horrible wankfest.

I just... I think the thing that irritates me about BSG so much is that if could be good. If someone would fucking edit them and make them write a coherent season-long storyline!

er. Go write fix-it fic?
