BSG: These are not the characters you're looking for.

No. Seriously. I'm watching the show, and, so far? I don't know who these people are, but they're not the ones that were on my tv last week. Or the week before. Or the week before that. They're definitely not the ones who were on the show at the beginning of the season.

Dude. They've been making it up as they go along, and for quite some time now, I think it's been along the lines of "Wouldn't it be cool if we did ___?" with absolutely no regard to what has come before, or how the FUCK it will fit into the storyline.

This is actually quite true. Even back in season one... And. Dude. Posting with a Farscape icon just shows how glaring it is. Now, there was a show that understood the need to build your plot-threads carefully, from the ground up.

It was just incredibly, glaringly, obvious tonight.

I've read an interview, where Ron Moore talks about how the Writer's Room is this great, organic experience, and that everyone can pitch ideas and be heard and, y'know, obviously, no one there bothers trying to figure out how their continuity should slot together. It's pathetic.

You know, I read what you said the other day about, if you wanted to watch an "issues" show, you should watch Star Trek: TNG. 'Cause it was an issues show, but the characters are all actually, you know, consistent.

And yet, wasn't Ron Moore one of the guys who was high up on that show?

Meh. I honestly don't watch any more. I've got the last two episodes TiVoed and I havne't gotten around to watching them.

Yes. Yes he was. Which makes me giggle hysterically every time he says something like, "OMG. We are so much better than Trek!"

Sadly, they're really not worth it. With this one, you could watch the beginning, then fast-forward through to the last minute and be pretty happy. Last week... I don't even know what last week was. Oh! Right. Adama's manpain. *eyeroll*

[identity profile] vampirehunter85.livejournal.com 2007-02-26 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Please. Ron, you wish you were half as good as Trek. I've been watching a lot of TNG lately? Frakkin' amazing. Genius.

Oh. Good to know I'm not missing much.

Have Lee, Kara, Anders, and Dee resolved their love quadrangle of I DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS?

AHahah. Yes. TNG might have had some really awful plots, and the characters were all SO NICE. But the other stuff was pretty awesome.

Sadly, no.

I... I would like to think so, but I'm sure if they need a ratings boost, they'll immediately unresolve it. (not that, y'know, we actually SAW Sam and Kara have a talk where she went, "I choose you, Anders-chu!")

[identity profile] vampirehunter85.livejournal.com 2007-02-26 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Well, in that case, I suspect that Ron Moore believes that "grittier" = "better". Which, sadly, is not the case. Just because you're being gritty and edgey and having everyone be jerks?

Doesn't mean it's actually good.

Well, they couldn't show it, could they? I mean, they can't show a lot of the stuff that led up to it, could they? Because most of it made absolutely no sense.

Hoo-ray enormous time jumps.

Personally, I haven't watched this show in, well... forever, it seems like. Just the promos for it have scared me away. And while that was true of some of the Trek episodes, the idea that BSG is better...

*wanders off to join you in hysterical laughter*

*wanders back in*

*ahems* Right, where was I? Oh, right. BSG and its crapiness. If Ron was involved Next Gen, he really should have noticed what happened to the Trek franchise when they started moving away from the "nice" attitude that Gene Roddenberry created and tried for something more dark and serious - serious ratings decline, and eventual cancellation. And, if I'm going to judge them just by promos alone...

Enterprise was better then the current season of BSG! Yeah, I said it, and I'll say it again if I need to. ^_^

Ron was, if memory serves, part of the "Let's make Trek gritty and dark!" crew...

*snickers* Ah, Enterprise.

The problem is that BSG could be so good, if they'd do interweaving plotlines and thread everything with some sort of pacing. However, since they only seem to want to do stand-alones, they're kinda screwed.

Farscape proved you can do stand-alones with bits of plot for the over-arcing plot of the season, too.

Hell, Babylon Five proved that, and some of its early episodes were complete and utter crap.

Arrr. I'm going to make myself cranky, now.

I liked Chief Tyrol, though. He was good... right??? c'mon, leave me something to hold on to...

I agree. At one point I would have happily airlocked Roslin and Adama myself.

Chief was ok... except for the part where he went and talked to the man who sentenced his wife to death.
