BSG and Lantis comic review thingie.

1. The BSG comic is turning out consistantly better stories than Ron and his crew. This is sad, since the comic is utter crack. But at least Greg Pak remembers shit. Like, say, the rest of the fleet, and makes it a constant presence, instead of an "Omg! Issue! Issue!" presence. Also. Pak consistantly gets the "men and women are equal" thing right. Plus. Mom and Dad were flirting. (Yes, I know my subtext is not real) Now, if he'd just start sneaking in little Caprica Resistance bits...

2. Can I have a Kara? She doesn't even have to come with her own batch of centurions for ass-kicking.

3. COTTLE RULES. Also? He smokes in almost every panel he's in. WIN. (Kara smoked, too, also win) eta: No, seriously, "I don't care if he's a three-toed flying frog farm!"

4. There was Sparky! He even got to be Mr. Exposition.

Lantis: Wraithfall.

1. The art...needs some help. That said, there were a few panels which were dead-on awesome.

2. Teyla's "Boys are stupid" look is awesome.

3. Speaking of Sparky, there was Sparky in my comic book again. It is, of course, the subtle, subtexty kinda Sparky.

4. Also? Rodney admitted Zelenka MIGHT have helped him fix something.

I am considering going out to buy some comics for my 15-yr-old, because... well, he'd like them, and they're not computer games or television. And they're harmless fun, most of them. Are the 'lantis ones good for teens? He is rather sheltered and innocent.

They're not bad. Hrm. The only objectionable bit is that there's not-graphic torture. Now, on tv, it wouldn't be really all that noticeable, but in the comic, it's a bit creepy (words creep me out more than visuals, apparently). And the author took some of the Wraith feeding habits a little, ah, far. (we're not talking peeling skin off, bamboo under fingernails... More iron maiden, funky drugs, beaten to death stuff--mostly implied)

Hmmm. Maybe, but he is easily creeped. He's sweet and sensitive.

Any suggestions? I was thinking Spider-man.

Also, he has discovered Fullmetal Alchemist manga. I presume this is not bad????

Is there any manga that's innocent-friendly?

*checks with Timey* Er. Sadly, our only suggestion is picking up manga and flipping through it to see, 'cause neither of us read it.

As for kid-friendly comics, um... (if it were twelve years ago, I'd have more suggestions, but they are beginning to realize that their fanbase is now adults and thus... likes adult plotlines and such.)

Spider-Man might be ok. *flails* My tastes run to things with people being sarcastic, swearing, and kicking heads off.

He got to be all, "...that's not all, sir." at one point! It was awesome (as was Cottle, and Kara, who is sad that her cylon commandoes do NOT go "Hoo-yah!")

It's... not too bad, actually. I'd suggest flipping through in the store and deciding before just buying, really (or finding scans. The scans might help decide). Mostly because, well, buying something you might hate is never a good thing.

AHAHahhaha. Yeah. Sometimes, I wonder if Ron needs someone to pay attention to the details--I have my own blind spots, though, so I guess I should shut up about it... Except I won't. Obviously. ;)

Because Ron is God?

(hah! I have never been to Madison! ;)

YES. Damn. I left the comic on the couch, or I would... like, describe it or something. (they fix it together, at least)

I think it's going to be a ridiculously-priced hardcover, actually. (sadly)

Hrm. But then there's MY question... (You knew it was coming!) WAS THERE BILLY!?

Also, Mom and Dad flirting? WHeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

"Is Admiral Adama your boyfriend?"

"Well, Jenny..."

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, no. I think Sparky got his lines this time around. Billy was off... elsewhere. (also, Kara got shot, but, um, I don't think she's really shot OR dead... y'know?)

Eh, that's okay. Greg gave Billy screentime in ALL the previous issues (and lines!) so I forgive him. La...

And aww. Poor Kara. *pats her*
