Late to the party...

It is good to know my tax dollars are going to protect me from ad campaigns. WHY ARE THERE STILL DUMB POLITICAL ADS TO ANNOY ME?

Or, they could do something useful, since law enforcement seems to be a dead end. Maybe some free healthcare?

Erm, don't you live in Wisconsin? But yes, Boston is wonderful. We treat advertisers like terrorists (I think Menino is going to bitch-slap that network across the state), and over the river here we temporarily banned billboard ads. There were quotes from famous people on the billboards instead. It was nice.

Yup. And, sadly, I'm sure it could happen here, too. People are stupid enough, after all.

Ads annoy me. I would never make it in advertising, because one of the things they tell you is to watch a lot of ads. And. I just couldn't do it.

I'm interested in your opinion of the response by the authorities in Boston. Because it's coming across that you feel it was a complete overreaction to what to at least someone was a "bomb scare." But I also felt it could be read that you were more critical of the dumb political ads, in the same vein as the old saw, "They can put a man on the moon, but they can't ____."

Personally, I find a few interesting wrinkles in how the whole situation played out, but I won't get into them here.

Cheers.

I do feel it was an over-reaction. It's kind of like the boy crying wolf. Sooner or later, enough hoaxes will happen and we won't care anymore. And when there really IS a bomb, it'll wreck someone's day.

I think the best part about this whole thing is that Portland has decided not to take the displays down. Portland FTW!

I can't believe they actually arrested and charged those two guys.

Yay for Portland!

I'm thrilled, and it's not just the two "But it's art, dude!" schmucks who placed the things. They're going to find the ad executives who ordered this and charge them too. Dumb shits didn't think, "We're going to place smalling blinking electronic devices under a bunch of support structures all over town. Don't you think we should, y'know, ask the city's permission first?"
