so... question... for the BSG fans in the audience...

Do cylon women have the same menstrual cycles as human women?

(also, on an unrelated note: was pondering Dom/Nate meta, and what should start playing? Switchfoot's "Dare you to Move"... So, er, expect rambliness on them later.) MY PLAYLIST IS OUT TO GET ME

I'm guessing yes as Cottle said they hadn't improved the plumbing.

AND given Galactica Sharon didn't know she wasn't human, she'd have to have either had a cycle and thus been like her female colleagues, or she'd have had to have been told she had some kind of wacky disease which resulted in no flow.

That "wacky disease" is pretty common among high school athletes, models, and actresses, so, hey, maybe she did. :)

She very well could have, hence listing it as an option. I have no idea what "it" would be called so stuck in wacky as a place holder.

It's not a disease, really. It's just that when the body doesn't have enough extra energy stored (that is, too small fat deposits) it goes "All right, we don't have the energy to grow a baby, so lets shut that stuff down for now". Sharon doesn't look like she'd have this problem, but, well, fiction.

The reason it's in quotes is that it's not my choice of term, but the previous commenter's - you know, that whole attribution thing - and in particular because I disagreed with her terminology - you know, that whole "air quotes" thing. I'm familiar with the causes of amenorrhea. :)

I thought other readers might like a little more information about it. Sorry of the comment made you feel insulted.

Yes, but they can probably modify them/turn them off at will. How else would Sharon have been able to ensure that she would be sexing up Helo at just the right time?

*glares in their general direction*

Hrm. But... if you don't know you're a cylon... *contemplates*

Then you don't know the secret password to the reproductive system (or whatever).

Not that I follow the show at all, but these are robots building other robots to look exactly like humans, right? There's even some who don't know they're really robots, aren't there?

Besides the fact that they'd need to be very convincing to maintain such a deep cover, I have a hard time believing that a robot would cut corners on this sort of task. If a robot wants to make a human doppelganger, then that robot's gonna do it right. Reducing or altering menstruation to make things easier for the girl robots might make sense to us, but that's because we're humans. A robot doesn't care if it farts or has to shave every day, or whatever, if that's what it has to do.

This is a good point. Thank you.

It might very well vary from model to model. For Sharon, it'd make her less believable as a long-term sleeper agent if she didn't. For Sixes, it'd be a drawback if they needed to seduce someone and was bleeding at the time (unless the someone had a kink for that, I guess).

Yeah, I was just thinking that too... that if cylon women all had differing cycles, then it'd really put a crimp into Baltar's "foursome" plans.
