huh. Slight BSG meta...

Something occured to me while combing my hair... (in regards to Kara, with spoilers from Unfinished Business)

Kara was thinking of mustering out and moving down to New Caprica, all on her own.

If what she said to Lee was true, she wasn't looking forward to being a peacetime pilot, with nothing to kill.

Huh.

Heh. I should have noticed it more, given my overwhelming irritation at the amount of fic that claims she moved down to NC because "Sam needed the planet" or some variation. (though I've written similar)

She needs to stop taking it personally. The cylons didn't show up just to ruin her life... They showed up to ruin everyone's.

gah. Work. *flees*

I tell yuio something. I don't think that Kara like the military that much. She love flying, but all the rest. Not so much.

You know, when you are trying to forget your life, having nothing to do is a bad option.

And like she said, there was lots of trainees and nothing to do. She got bored, and thought that building a cabin in the "dry woods" was more entertaining. She could paint, have sex when she wanted to (she didn't have to wait for the pilots bunks to be liberated). And play pyramid with her boyfriend.

Of course, NC didn't end up a paradise, but you know pamphlet are always misleading like that.

Frakkin' false advertising. *grr*

You've got some good thoughts on this, though, m'dear. She really did try and she really did want to break out of her usual pattern. It just didn't work out so well.

I always forget that she was planning on being a pyramid player, and flying was something she just ended up doing. She's damned good at it, but...

IM IN UR SETTLEMENT, DOOMIN UR CIVILIZATION

"Kara, you want to stay? Okay, you're in charge of babysitting. Sam? He's in charge of ... morale."

I didn't think about it before, but she would TOTALLY think that it was her fault that the cylons found them.

Also, (according to RDM? I can't remember) didn't she join the military because she couldn't do the pyramid thing? So she lost what was important to her and found a substitute. Now, with the military doing little more than, well, babysitting, she lost what she had and found a substitute. (And FWIW, I think the better of the two options presented, especially considering Sam.)

I wi9ll have you know I spent a good five minutes LAUGHING at your subjectline, and then giggling madly about the babysitting.

Sam is totally in charge of morale. Kara's...

And, see, I kinda wonder if Sam would have enjoyed life on ship, too. I somehow don't think so, though I think he would (and will) adapt to the situation.

Excellent.

Yes. Kara's morale.

I think if they'd stayed, he'd have found a way, just because she was there.

Certainly not her morals... *cough*

Sam says it's very important to keep Kara's morale up. Usually with a lot of sex, some light bickering, and tackling her whilst playing pyramid (of course, when they play, it's, ah, foreplay).

He would have, yes. And I think they could have found something for him to do (like all of the CAG's paperwork, so she doesn't airlock it).
