SFF: The I'm Confused (and obnoxious) Edition

There wasn't enough boxing.

The Good:

Sam Anders, cheap date. OH SAM. He has an excuse, people! He was on Caprica running a resistance for a year! You think he had time to drink, or even had alcohol? Only for medical supplies!

How happy Kara and Sam are. I was, DUDE. Finally, some good lighting for them being snuggly and kissing.

Mom and Dad. Like. Dude. Every scene. THEY ARE SO DOING IT. No, REALLY. The snuggling under the stars? YES. And the snark and the gigglyness and the "That color looks good on you." BILL YOU OLD DOG. And then she gave him boxing pointers.

Sam Anders has no hangover. (marrying Kara will do that to you)

I called Kara popping the question, plus the quick ceremony. I did not call the river. *snickers*

Kat beating up whoever the hell that was. GO KAT.

Helo beating the shit out of Lee, and Sharon jumping him (HELLO PORN).

Chief vs Dad. Interesting, that he thinks he let them down by being too friendly.

Mom giving Dad advice was priceless. And I love that she was right there, watching. Billy would have approved, I think.

Kat just being an obnoxious loud-mouth.

Poor Hot Dog! *snerks*

ETA: I forgot. I wrote the scene at the beginning, just longer. And Kara called him 'Sammy'.
ETA2: OMG. HOW COULD I FORGET CALLY AND CHIEF? THEY ARE SO CUTE. ANd she has the baby at the boxing! And, and, they're so happy and adorable, and HE LOVES HER OMG.
ETA3: AND HOW did I forget my beloved Ellen? She and Saul were kickin', the two seconds of them we saw. Not to mention, damn, girl, NICE LEGS. And Saul! You got Anders drunk on purpose!

The Middle:
So. Kara and Lee had sex, after she was drunk off her ass. Lee decided that he was going to be Her Man forever and ever amen and got all bouncy and yelled. And Kara, to shut him up, jumps up and yells "Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama" after choking on it once.

And then, she wakes in the morning and immediately goes off to marry Sam Anders...

Somehow, I'm not seeing her doing it because she loves Lee too much. It looked far more like she had an epiphany (Oh, Angel, you bring the bad analogies), realized that Lee wasn't really what she wanted and went for what she did.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will matter, since the writers clearly are more interested in bad romance novel cliches (I think I've read TELKENA FIC that had better 'ship moments, and that's sayin' somethin').

The Bad:

The ending kinda just fizzled out to nothing, man. There was boxing and arguing and then .... whatever.

Like my roommate, I feel kind of sorry for the Kara/Lee fans. Your ship's based on drunken sex. Yeah. That's so true love right there. Uh-huh. If I told a guy I loved him in third person, I'd really really mean it. Yup.

Not to mention, dear god, the overwhelming amount of bad "Look! Montage!" of Kara/Lee in 'shippyness' was so very pasted on.

The sad thing is that, of course, the writers aren't ever actually going to let people be happy. So despite the fact that this is pasted on (much like Kara/Anders was last year--Hello, 'Scar', I'm lookin' at you), I'm sure it will stick around to cause lots of trouble. Because resolution is bad. Just ask Chris Carter.

I feel sorry for Dee. Lee basically used her to get back at Kara, and now she knows it. she might have thought it before, but now she knows it.

I really hope she rips Lee's balls off.

In conclusion, I really miss Billy.

Oh, good. So it wasn't just my roommate and I.

Billy is one of the remaining cylons. *sniffle*

ope, definitely not, I saw that too.

Somehow, I'm not seeing her doing it because she loves Lee too much.

If I put on the Lee/Kara glasses I could spin the 'She knows she's bad for him, so since she loves him so much she'll walk away' theory.

Like my roommate, I feel kind of sorry for the Kara/Lee fans. Your ship's based on drunken sex.

This, though, is so totally true.

Not to mention, dear god, the overwhelming amount of bad "Look! Montage!" of Kara/Lee in 'shippyness' was so very pasted on.

That was awful. Actually so many of the Lee/Kara moments were too forced and pretty painful to watch.

I feel bad for Dee too. There better be some ripping of the balls this evening.

Oh, I know that's exactly what the 'shippers are doing. Hell, there's already been at least ONE fic based off the scenes we got over the last two weeks with that exact theme. Criswell does, in fact, predict there will be at least ten more before the week is out.

It was weird, actually. Because the Kara/Anders has never felt forced. But, boy HOWDY, did the Kara/Lee. Even in the flashbacks.

I'll give Dee the damned knife m'self.

Hell, there's already been at least ONE fic based off the scenes we got over the last two weeks with that exact theme.

I'm impressed there has only been one so far. But, yeah, I'm bracing myself for the deluge of bad fic to come from this.

It was weird, actually. Because the Kara/Anders has never felt forced.

When Kara and Anders first hooked up I had a 'Whoa! Where did that come from?" reaction, but you're right that it never felt forced. I do, though, think the emo!Kara from Scar felt a bit forced. But once Anders returned the two of them had amazing chemistry on screen.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the Scar stuff was laughable, as was the massive anvil in Downloaded. Gaius' "Tangible proof of one human's love for another!" still makes me giggle unnecessarily. And, hell, I'll even go so far as to say they weren't in love until sometime on New Caprica.

Don't go near ff'net. it's like a scary scary place. (from any shipper side, really)

[identity profile] lucyparavel.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the same thing about Sam passing out under the table-oh well, he didn't get to drink for a long time on Caprica, right?

Then I thought damn, I knew Starbuck was a drinker, but she clearly can hold her alcohol if she's still almost totally coherent and someone a foot taller and much heavier is passed out! Sam calling her baby twice was cute though-so that must be his nickname for her-since I'm fairly sure he called her that during the kissing in the hall in the detention center.

I just mainly love Kara so I think I'd really be happy with Sam or Lee for her. I just wish she wasn't always having so much angst and being so self destructive. There should be some forward progress as well!
ext_18106: (Kara's boobs)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Kara has always been a hard drinker, though. So while I was a bit surprised that she out-drank Sam, I still say he had excuses. Plus, well, she drinks more anyway.

I missed him calling her baby! I thought she called him that! Now I'm really confused. *laughs* And she didn't hit him for it. Damn. Hrm. There goes my canon. Although, she did call him 'Sammy'.

I have... issues, with Lee. I could handle anyone else (up to and including Baltar and Leoben), but Lee? Yeah. Really have issues.

I do, however, love Kara rather madly (I've certainly written more fic about her).

[identity profile] lucyparavel.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I didn't think less of him for the drinking part. Perhaps he also tried to be clean living as a pro althlete, in a anti drinking way, even before the attack on the colonies?

No, she didn't. Hmm, darn now I'll have to watch again to tell you exactly where but I think it was in the flashbacks to the Colonial Day party, fairly early on. Yes, 'Sammy' was cute.

Eww not Baltar! Though I like him fine in his own story. I do have a soft spot for Kara and Leoben in a twisted, wrong way. I started writing a long fic for them this fall, but I haven't posted new chapters in awhile.

I understand about Lee-he's done some things that bother me as well.

Yeah-it is mostly about the Kara love for me. I can't wait till her flashback ep with her momther. I really want more of her backstory. BTW-if you ever wanted to chat-my AIM is Lbmt, since it seems like we are awake/online at the same time sometimes. ;>)

*points down* Lizardbeth has a good point about Sam matching drinks with Tigh, too.

Hee. I swear, if Sam Anders hadn't shown up and I'm never getting Kara/Sam Carter in canon, I would have been a die-hard Kara/Baltar/Six fan.

Oh, Kara's mommy angst. *cringes* I'm on the other side of that one, I think. I loathe her mommy angst (possibly because it reminds me too much of Mercedes Lackey and her ilk). Sure! I'm Analyssie, and I promise to restrain my batshit tendencies.

[identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sam and the drinking -- dude was matching drinks with Tigh first. Nobody is gonna catch an alcoholic. Sammy was already well past buzzed when Kara had barely gotten started.

poor Dee and poor Sam. He already knew Kara was messed up, but I wanted to hug him when he walked out. And Dee figured out that she was the consolation prize, I agree. So much for fandom's take on her being the man-eating bitch, hm?

And yes, Sammy calls her baby. :) When they're at the bar and Lee's watching from the stand. And then they're all snuggly and holding hands and ... awww... too bad it doesn't last. boo.

*makes hissy noises* Stupid writers.

This is true. I'd forgotten that. Sigh. I'm gonna have to make myself expurgated versions of this episode. All Kara/Anders, all the time. Ys.

Oh, I'm sure fandom will continue to hate Dee. They're predictable like that.

And he didn't get smacked for it. AHAH. True love, obviously. ;)

I was really hoping for the incredible AWKWARDNESS that would have been Adama and Roslin taking a midnight stroll a little too close to a certain pair of pilots while they were yelling out declarations of love... It would have been amazing.

[identity profile] pretty-fits.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
I feel so bad for Dee, she looked like she was going to cry. I think Dee needs to call Lee girly names since he has no balls(at least when it comes to Kara). Poor Dee, she deserves better than how Lee is treating her. She better make him grovel just for a kiss, let alone a roll in the hay.

And Anders. =( Sorry your wife is too frakking crazy that she'll throw you away like that.

Mom and Dad were awesome like always. But seriously, frak already. You know you want to.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
I do feel awful for Dee. I think she believed that he loved her. And he may. But he obviously loves Kara far more--he's certainly more conflicted about her (that, at least, I've always seen. Kara is like this freaky unobtainable prize that he wants--first his brother had her, then his dad, and now Sam has her).

There better be some boot-licking, damnit.

Mom and Dad are having sex. It involves handholding. And possibly her desk. A lot.

[identity profile] zahdahe.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for that insight of Mum and Dad having sex on her desk. Don't think they get to manage it too often on the Presidential Desk, more likely in his quarters after the boxing match and she cleaning up the bleeding and while he is down for the count, SHE TAKES HIM. QUEEN TAKES BISHOP a chess move I think. Want to see more, but no flesh - let the watchers use thier own imagination.

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
What? No mention of the absolute joy that was Tigh and Ellen? Other than the Mom and Dad bits and everything Tigh...I found the whole thing rather cringe-worthy. I have to wonder if this is how people with inherent Sam/Jack hesitations must have felt during shippy SG-1 Eps. If so, I have more compassion now. I just want to kick Lee in the head.
ext_18106: (Ellen drinking)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
AHAHAH. This is a good point. I shall have to eta3 about my beloved Ellen and her fabulous legs (not to mention getting her husband to drink Starbuck's boy under the table)...

God, yes. I think I've even had this reaction during them sometimes (I know I cringe when Teh List references things). (At least this wasn't the BSG Threads? Shit. Maybe it was. Damnit. I want glowy squid people, then. Because at least Oma and the House O' Pancakes wasn't badly pasted-on....)

[identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
omgods, yes! It's the BSG Threads! I do remember thinking as I watched "there is way too much crazy shippiness going on here." I really hate it when my shows go hard core ship. That's what my imagination and fic is for, bitches! Stop mucking up the show with your half-hearted, half-arsed attempts to give people what you think they want! people are too stupid to know what they want anyway My love for the stupid cute that is S/J couldn't even stand to watch Threads. But Ellen. Even just that glimpse of her was enough to make it worth it.

Oh...and I wasn't completely imagining the whole Adama guilt at letting people get too close being aimed at Roslin at the end right? When he turns to her and says "Madam President" with full emo!meaning. Feeling a bit guilty for shagging the ex-now-present-president of the colonies, eh? Oh Bill...did shaving off your moustache make you all emo forever? He's obviously never heard of the Porn For Peace philosophy.
ext_18106: (PIRATES)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Which makes me laugh. I seem to recall cursing about the idea that BSG would ever do their own version of Threads. And now here it is. And I'm laughing (I am not high on cold meds! Not yet, anyway).

And, honestly, I'm all for my Kara/Anders being completely off-screen (I might bitch and complain about not getting pretty groping and kissing in good lighting, but...). In fact, I was hoping this season would simply see them being in the foreground separately, except on occasion when they'd do the, "So, sex?" "Ok!" thing. But I'm cheap and easy like that.

No. I think I remember seeing that and cursing and going, "Laura, you're not going to let him get away with that!"

Porn for Peace! It works much better than hitting everyone.

[identity profile] zahdahe.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
These Adama men are sometime too damn Emo. Great when its necessary but damn it all the hell. Enjoy the sex sin while your doing it and unless she tells you no more, keep it as a happy memory. That really does apply to the elder Adama. The younger one is 'throws hands up in the air and rolls eyes' in need of serious therapy/kick in the head/kick in the danglies.

That's why I said I was confused. I liked bits and I didn't like bits. And some of the bits I liked, I kind of want to hate, and some of the bits I didn't like, I wanted to like.

I have this feeling that if I weren't irrational about Kara/Lee, I'd see that more.

Baby Adama-Roslins. Dear god, the rest of the fleet would tremble.

The problem was that they kept reusing the same flashbacks, which kind of irritated after awhile. Especially since I've heard they cut other scenes.

[identity profile] angualupin.livejournal.com 2006-12-02 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the first S3 episode I've seen all the way through. And... well, pretty much exactly what you said. I fell off the couch laughing when Lee said, "You actually literally drank Anders under the table". (Oh Lee, when you are snarky I love you so much.) And I squee'd loudly and excitedly every time Mom and Dad were on screen. (So. Doing it.) And Chief and Cally and Helo and Sharon were cute. But...

The most emotional Kara/Lee scene, for me, was the three second flashback to Colonial Day, season 1. The friendship, angst, sexual tension, history, everything that is between Kara and Lee is so perfectly expressed in those three seconds.

And on top of that, there was more anger, hurt, betrayal, and love in the punches exchanged after she slept with Baltar than there was in the entire boxing scene here.

They have a season and a half since then and they can't manage to even come close.

Plus, the entire episode was trite.

Sam is a cheap drunk. I love this canon (even if Tigh was matching drinks with him, it's still damned amusing).

And, if I take two steps back, I can even agree about the season one stuff. I can look at the Colonial Day dress, and the punches, and go, "Yeah, he wanted her, and yeah, she wanted him." But, dude, it's been a year and a half of sometimes shitty writing and it should be over and done with. They can move on now, I hope?

ARGH. I wish the 'argument' hadn't been so, so, predictable and soap opera cliche. Bah.

Thank the Gods that there are some sane people around who don't see Anders as a Lee-replacement and that Kara's whole relationship with Sam was a lie based on her fleeing this great love of Lee. Puh-lease.

That night in the woods meant more to Lee than it did to Kara. After it was over, he was ready to have a bright shiny future, but Kara saw it as a complication. She didn't have any intention of leaving Sam, while Lee was ready to toss Dee in a heartbeat. Lee asked her point blank what she saw her future as and if she was with the person she wanted to be with. She made her choice by marrying Sam that next day. How many times is she going to pick Sam over him before Lee gets the clue?!

On another note, I loved that Sam and Kara were hanging out with Tigh and Ellen. Just the looks that Tigh and Ellen gave them kinda had that "remember when we were like that" vibe. And I bet that Sam is the only guy in the fleet that Ellen would never make a move on for fear that Kara would kick her as

Hah! Even if I hadn't been predisposed to dislike the concept, I would have never considered it.

I'm currently sane and am fine with her loving both of them. But that she married Sam because she was too scared to marry Lee just... doesn't work for me.

The hanging out with Tigh and Ellen was adorable (I really must post the screencaps from that, because Sam telling Saul horrible stories while Ellen and Kara sit there with "Boys are stupid" looks on their faces is just PRICELESS).

There's so much more that they could have put in those flashbacks. Sigh. They could have skipped the dancing and the My Heart Will Go On bits. And given us people interacting like real people instead of paper dolls.

Yes. Although I still maintain Adama and Roslin were fabulous.

Sigh. The problem is that they want to do all this stuff with Kara, and they think to make her less 'cool' they have to give her this tragic, tortured past. And that's far worse than if she'd just been an uppity brat who got her mouth washed out with soap and grew up a snarky bitch. Which, y'know, people do in real life. Without childhood trauma.

Also, if I want to read a Mercedes Lackey heroine, I'll read one. I want BSG, god damnit.

Exactly! If you are going to start something like that why not see it through and give a resolution?

I loved the idea of this episode, but I think their explanation for the Kara/Lee stuff was crap. Why couldn't they just have married Dee and Anders without having the falling out like that? I'm with you on why she married Anders - it wasn't as a Lee replacement. Why would she need to replace him when she had him?

Also, the world needs more Adama/Roslin.
