lyssie: (Sam Yes you're an idiot)

So, apparently.

People weren't mocked enough the first go-round they were calling Sam Anders 'Blanders'.

PEOPLE. YOU'RE FUCKING IDIOTS AND SOUND LIKE YOU SHOULD BE SHOT.

Actually, if you were shot, I'm sure I'd be fine with that, as you'd stop breathing my air.

To my flist: if any of your friends say it in my sight, I'm going to mock them. You might wanna lock me from commenting in your journals. [livejournal.com profile] daisycm83 this means you.

ETA: For the record, since I wasn't particularly clear, [livejournal.com profile] daisycm83 likes Anders. It was someone who replied to a post of hers that set me off.

. . . have I told you lately that I love you?

Possibly. But it's always good to hear. ;)

[identity profile] thirteenthchime.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm confused. People are still unaware of the awesomeness that is Samuel T. Anders?
ext_18106: (co-official batshit)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. This is confusing to me. Of course, it was confusing a year ago when Mr. I'm just a sports star, but watch me stay alive anyway was universally panned. Well, generally.

I'm still amused at the recent upsurge, actually.

[identity profile] rhi-silverflame.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
I am, likewise, utterly perplexed.

[identity profile] bijoux.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm probably guilty of calling him Blanders way back last season, but I've reformed! Anders totally kicks major ass now :)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but--to backtrack a bit--they really didn't give us a hell of a lot about him last year. And now they're filling in, perceptions change.

Anders is Awesome, and he deserves to get inducted into the military and promoted immediately, or a high-ranking government position, or something. They need guys like him.

[identity profile] rhi-silverflame.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. You know, now that you bring that up I think I would be kind of sad if they put him in the military. Part of the reason I love him is because he is that capable and he's not military.

I could make more sense, but my brain is still all kerfuffled from that episode. Holyshit.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Nonono. I'm convinced Sam read every tactics manual he could get his hand on, during the Year, and he decided they all pretty much sucked. Because it's the unconventional stuff that's working--and Tigh knows it, too.

Hell, career military would have died out long ago. All of our kids are so damned... well, they're the frak-ups, the stupid ones, the ones who get in fights and thrown in the brig. And I love them so. *distracted*

[identity profile] karma-aster.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
But Anders is all sexy and tough and stuff! Also...no, there is no also. He's sexy! And pretty! And leads insurgencies and stays alive against horrible odds and fights to save his wife from bad shit.

How is this bland? Do they want him to go off and be emo and in a fat-suit like Lee?
ext_18106: (Anders thinking base by Tim!)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I am now sober, and can, thus, reply.

He should be emo! He should, um, start cutting! And staying out all night and having sex with anonymous men in bathrooms! I'm sure the fangirls will be happy then...

[identity profile] surreallis.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
They call him Blanders? Are these the same people who called Pete... er, what did they call him again? Besides the stalker thing, I mean.

I'm not surprised at all the badfic out there if this is the best they can come up with. *snort*

Anders is teh sex.

Some of them are, I imagine. Some of them are actually Jack/Daniel shippers, who are shocked they like a het pairing.

Some of them don't care about who they're shipping, they just don't like him and think he has no personality aside from being Kara's fuckbuddy.

[identity profile] sabaceanbabe.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Samuel T. Anders was and is a lot of things, but bland isn't one of them. O_o
ext_18106: (Helo I ship)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, well, I know that. Sadly, a good portion of the fandom is pre-disposed to hate his guts. (although the death threats have died down, somewhat)

[identity profile] osunbaby.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I never understood why people didn't like Anders... I don't understand why people don't like Dualla either... it's like unless it's Starbuck and Apollo people get pissed.

In Anders' case, I think his character is worthy of admiration because he was an athlete, he played a game for a living... but when the shit went down, my boy took up arms and organised a fucking rebellion!!! Then after being rescued, when the shit went down again, my boy was FRONT and CENTER!!

See some pro-ball player 'round these parts do some courageous shit like that. Never happen...

So I agree with you wholeheartedly. People need to stop dissing Anders, and see why it is that Starbuck fell in love with the man. He's got grit man... serious GRIT!!
ext_18106: (Anders thinking base by Tim!)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand it, a bit. Especially if you just weren't all that interested in the resistance storyline last year. They left so much to our imaginations. They gave us the setup, and one or two of the relationships within the group (Anders being leader/captain, the rest obviously loyal) and that was it.

And, yes, exactly. He's very admirable. He decided he was going to frakkin' survive, and then he added on "annoying and blowing up toasters" to his resume.

Plus, I think his people would follow him through hell, and that's always a good sign.

[identity profile] osunbaby.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
See maybe it was me, I was always interested in the resistance storyline, and when people were saying that he was just in a couple episodes, how could Starbuck fall so hard for him, I was always thinking that these people have never fallen in love at first sight.

I also totally dig that he went after Starbuck, much the same way she went after him...

In Exodus Pt. 2, I also love his reaction to finding her... she was unconscious, but he still had to plant one on her... I love it.

[identity profile] osunbaby.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
.... plus he's a much better match for Starbuck than either that fuckwit Baltar or Apollo.
ext_18106: (PILOTS)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd have to dig back, but I think, my initial reaction to him (and the resistance) was, um, a bit mocking. BUT, I was also happy because it continued the Kara and Helo Caprica Road Show, which I wanted to see far more than I wanted to see Politics In Space.

But then, well, then there was, um, The Farm, actually. And there was the morning-after, and I just... snarky!sex is one of my kinks, and they hit it in spades, man.

It's also possible that I was pre-conditioned to love Kara with someone named Sam. *sigh* (because of my own personal crossover crack!pairing, Sam Carter/Kara Thrace)

Sam was crying when he realized she was still breathing. I didn't notice that the first and second times through, but in squinty-vision, it's much more obvious. And, and, a man who gets all teary and emotionally happy when he finds his wife is pretty damned hot. Plus, then he went all practical and slung her over his shoulder until she could walk again.

And, er, I suspect Sam Carter is also why I hated Kara/Lee early on (not to mention that, um, when fandom goes, "OMG OTP!" I may be slightly contrary and want to beat them with hatchets)

*talks your ear off*

[identity profile] circe.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I never heard this Blanders nickname. I do NOT like it. Sam is just the shit. He is a God. He is teh Sexay!

He is resilient, trustworthy, hawt, tall, loyal, hawt, a leader, and loves the best pilot in the fleet. and he is hawt. yeah, hawt.

I see only pain for him in the future.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* It's your final line which gets me. 'Cause I want not to be one of those scary 'shippers who rants and raves, but I'm afraid I may come perilously close if they just... sigh. I don't know. See, I'll write fucked-up in my fic, but I don't like it in my canon, apparently. This is a sad double-standard, on my part.

[identity profile] daisycm83.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Me?? I love Anders. For serious. I would marry him if he was, y'know, not fictional and not married to Starbuck.

And....oh. I just got that you meant the person who commented on that entry. Ah. Yes.
ext_18106: (Anders sweet)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Er, I always get irritated by said person's views of Sam Carter, as well. And it seemed such a logical thing last night. But. There's a reason I made myself wait until you were awake again and I was sober.

My roommate would marry Helo...

...dude. Someone needs to write a Galactica Auction the Single Guys fic... er, before everyone was all hitched. It would be SO cliche.
