I am reminded (flailily) what one of the things I wanted to be snarky about was.

Crossover femslash pairings.

Apparently, Janeway/Roslin is now the new black. (it's certainly gotten more meta and fic in the month or so it's been around than Kara/Sam has in the entire year and seven months they've been around)

Which begs the question, though...

Are crossover pairings becoming more acceptible, or is it just a small, niche audience?

Does it have to do with the power of the fan writing them, to begin with? Or do they just talk it up better?

I haven't seen enough to judge. When I signed up with LJ less'n a year ago and saw you were doing Sam/Kara I thought, "Whoops, missed my chance to be first" (having always thought that if I ever try to write slash it'll be Kirk/Doctor). But I've never seen any other Sam/Kara than what I've read of yours (no doubt largely because slash isn't my cup of tea and I don't seek it out), and all I read of crossover slash - fiction and nonfiction - is what I see in your LJ.

So, not very helpful, yeah. Sorry.

Sam/Kara is very hard to find. The best way to get it is to do ficathons and make it a request. Last year's Multiverse ficathon also had a nice Sam/Kara piece. I rather suspect a lot of it is that the people that might write it don't like Sam Carter.

Or don't like Kara.

It's a toss-up, either way.

That? Totally bizarre. I mean, I suppose it depends where you hang, too, because I've never heard boo about Janeway/Roslin, yet you are not the only person I've heard mention Kara/Sam. But I can't even fathom why Janeway/Roslin would play. Not that I'm in to femmeslash, but it's really obvious which would be the more interesting, appealing, charismatic pairing. When you look at it as a comparison, there's just no contest.

See, I can get the Roslin is hot and Janeway is kinda hot and together, yowsa. Plus, the whole command dynamics thing, which probably also draws people in (two women In Charge, etc.)

Honestly, I couldn't tell you who, but I remember that twice now I've seen it and went "Oh! You're not Lyssie!" in a very confused voice.

I rarely read crossover fic. Exceptions were the Hogwarts/Hellblazer thing that camwyn did two years ago, and....and....well, MY idea of a good crossover fic would be Jenny Sparks getting shitfaced with Pete Wisdom and accidentally shutting down the entire power grid in London while shagging drunkenly, or Frank Castle and the Midnighter deciding to align their interests for a night of serious bloodletting, or Ladytron beating the shit out of Emma Frost.

That being said, I almost always read your fic, when I have time, and you know that for the most part fanfic leaves me cold.
