aheheheh.

It is bad for me to poke around icon communities. I tend to consider things like taking icons, not commenting, and then ALTERING THE BASES. 'Cause, y'know, non-texted icons aren't bases, and, OMG, gods forbid they get ALTERED. Pretentious fucks.

I So do not get that either. Especially when they obviously didn't *do* anything special to those textless icons except crop them. And then it's like, well, you know, I'm not a 'tard when it comes to cropping, so I could go out get the same cap and crop it exactly the same and add my own text. HOW WOULD YOU KNOW??

If a textless icon is any good, no one would *want* to alter it.

So there.

Even when it's obvious they did textures or gradients, or whatever, saying "textless are not bases!" is still pretentious.

Sometimes, icons without text are hard to even put text on. You can't think of ANY.

I do it all the time...

I like textless icons. Heck, I make a lot of 'em. Sometimes, there's no point in words, sometimes it just looks so good... But pretentiously stating that they are not bases? Is annoying.

Oh! I meant that I yoink icons all the time, not that I demand credit for textless ones. When, if rarely, I ever make icons, I could care less about people crediting.

Oh! Yeah, that I do--though I usually let the person know (and I tend to take from people I know). And my general rule is "want, take, have" about my own icons.

Nothing makes me click away from icon posts faster than those disclaimers. Such asshats.

Oh, yes. Epecially 'blank icon are not bases'. "Because my genius at cropping someone else's photos is so great that I cannot possible allow you to use them!"

I tend to click just to see, and then mock ('specially if they're bad icons). Usually out loud to the cat.

I would also add the 'You have to join my locked icon community to see my fabulous art' to the pretentious fucks category.

GAH. I've only seen that a handful of times (and once for 'dark fanfic', iirc). And, just. No. Dude, if you can't post them where everyone can see them, just don't bother.

I think it depends. I'll admit to feeling proprietary over icons that I've made, and so frankly I understand how they feel. It might have to do with someone taking a base someone's made and uglifying it beyond recognition, and them not wanting to be in any way associated with that.

But what about if it's a base that's a photograph someone took themselves, or a texture they've made, or a piece of art? I tend to want to respect their request to not alter it.

I just don't get what the big deal is either way. So what if they don't want their precious bases altered? No skin off my back.

I can understand the proprietariness, I can even understand "please don't alter my icons." But the in bold and italics "NO ALTERATIONS ALLOWED" is really obnoxious. And, frankly, makes me WANT to alter them (what're they gonna do, sic an internets lawyer on me?).

Mostly, it's the mockability factor.
