bored.

So bored, I'm randomly spamming the entirety of my Notes At Work from yesterday.
May contain spoilers for BSG, Farscape, and SG-1.

Oh, Kara, your soul-pain is so DEEP. *emo-tear*

Anders is a Lee!clone. I've seen this sentiment many places--that he's basically just Lee-lite, looks like Lee, makes Kara think of Lee. Is Kara's substitute for Lee. You name it, it's probably been said.

Because, obviously, it isn't that Kara happens to just have a type. Certainly, the small amount of canon evidence we have for past lovers doesn't support any sort of preference for men with dark hair and decent physiques.

Obviously, Baltar is the exception. He's not cut like a Greek god.

Let's review canon's sexual partners.

Baltar, Zak, Anders. Lee, almost. She eyed the Pegasus CAG up and down, as well (he was also dark-haired, for those keeping score at home).

Characteristics they share: all dark-haired. All decently built.

That's about where the similarities end. Their personalities range the spectrum. Zak is an eager, mediocre pilot who's constantly trying to please his dad, who wants desperately to be a pilot (he might be selfish, a brat, etc, as well). Baltar is a narcissistic sex maniac who sees things. Lee has a stick up his ass. Anders is light-hearted, generally calm, and rather nice.

Out of all of them, Baltar is the exception to both the short hair AND the Built Like a God rules.

So, really, Kara's frakking all of these guys to keep her love for Gaius a secret.

If Anders is a Lee!clone, then where are his daddy issues?

Where is his utter belief that Kara is a frak-up, always has been and always will be?

Because, unlike Lee, Anders believes in Kara. Thinks she's doing the right thing, that she can accomplish her mission. He doesn't automatically assumed she screwed up. Please see the mini-series for Lee's confirming that he expects Kara in the brig. And often. Also see Captains' Hand where he automatically assumes she's at fault.

Dude. The 80's music is Bear Mcreary doing Justin Haywood. BSG meets Star Cops. HAHAHAH. OMG. OMG. That would be so frakkin' awesome. Nathan Springer, ambassador of Earth?

..Kenzy/Starbuck.

=-=-

Nathan Springer was not, in the norm, an impatient man. He wasn't precisely patient, but he did understand that some things took time to do.

However, Pal Kenzy could drive a buddhist monk to murder.

"Kenzy."

She ignored the warning in his tone, and snapped, "I'm just saying that, I don't think it's fair."

"You don't, do you? Well, how would you like me to make you third shift super. Would that suit your need to be in charge?"

"Oh, bloody great. Put your most effective copper on the shift where nothin' happens."

He wasn't the one supposed to die.

Not with his youth, and his inexperience and his exuberance and joy.

It was supposed to be her.

She was slated from the beginning, she fulfilled her role.

She expected to die, expected him to carry on her legacy.

This is the gods' tally, she thinks, sometimes. His life for hers. Her life for his.

It wasn't fair.

Never was, never is, and the rate of attrition never quite stops.

Sometimes, she watches the other children, and almost calculates the kind of adults they'll grow into. None of them come close to him.

=-=-
HAHAHAH. Leela as a member of Caprica's resistance?

"They bleed?" Leela brightened and fingered the hilt of her knife, "Then killing them shall not be hard."

=-=-

Their fourth fight was Kara's fault. Not that she'd admit it.

"Hey." Anders wandered into the room that had been Lee's office and was now hers. He dropped a kiss on her head and eyed the paperwork on the table.

"Hey."

=-=-=

"It's good to know we understand each other, Admiral." Nathan said smoothly.

=-=-=-

Chief's from Geminon, but he seems to be part of Doc Cottle's underground railroad....

The chick is Shark, the guy is Buster.

-==--=

"Sir. Shouldn't we tell Captain Thrace?"

Garner speared the man with a look, "Is Captain Thrace a member of this crew?"

"No, sir," the man looked confused and a little apprehensive.

"Do we share information about our activities with those outside this crew, Petty Officer?"

"No, sir." Except the Admiral, but he was the frakking admiral.

"Then you have your answer, don't you."

"Yes, sir."

-=-=-

Didn't someone do a Garner ep-thingie? Called Errors in Judgement, maybe? Hrm.

---

The crew of the Pegasus really doesn't understand the Galactica. Oh, they get the part where it's a job and stuff. But they don't get the weariness, the sense that this is all senseless. As far as Pegasus is concerned, the war is a blast. The war means killing cylons.

It means losing, sometimes.

But the Pegasus likes to win. Always plays to win.

-=-

You know, unlike Incubator, Downloaded doesn't make me cringe and reach for the vodka. No one should be forced to watch Incubator. Downloaded... well, it's at least better than it could have been.

-=-=-

She's been angry for so long she doesn't know how to be otherwise.

It's easier to ignore them, because if she doesn't, the anger gains a hold on her. It hurts, though. Hurts in a way she never thought it could.

=-=-

technically, Anders and crew are terrorists. HAHAHAH. They are the Blake's 7 of the colonies!

Mom has been planning the babynapping for a while, hasn't she.

How many times has D died? She's a little whacked in the head, y'know. Maybe she likes the thrill of dying and coming back. OMG there's a fic idea to poke at.

The cylons = missionaries to the stars, zomg. *snicker*
--

Suicide is a sin in the eyes of God.

But she isn't really dying, isn't really going to some place that doesn't exist. She's returning to a new body. Getting a new lease on life.

Just one more, she sometimes thinks. One more, and it will be enough. She'll adjust and be like the others.

Conform.

None of them have realized that she takes the dangerous missions on purpose. That she walks a not-so-fine line until the resistance spots her.

Then the bullets fly.

She can feel every shot she's ever taken tearing through her flesh when she wakes.

Sometimes, she doesn't want to wake fully.

It wasn't until the third time she died that she recognized her own pattern of behavior. Self-destruction is also a sin, in God's eyes.

Waking staring at herself, watching them all welcome her back, she felt a curious sense of dislocation.

I want to die.

She never says it aloud. Never thinks it where they might hear--surface thoughts can become broadcast

Once noticed, the pattern is unavoidable. And hard to conceal. She tries, though. And succeeds more than she thinks she should.

There's no shrink to catch a cylon in the act.

After all, dying in the service of the glorious cause is where it's at.

fictitle: With Captain Jack You Get Egg-roll
=-=-

Starbuck is drunk off her ass and falling over when the cylons attack. The call to action-stations rings loudly through the ship. Around her, pilots and deck crew spring into action. Starbuck just laughs and stays where she is, watching the room spin, just a little.

"Kara!"

"Hey, Lee." She grins stupidly at him, "Come to join the party?"

"I need you in a bird, Kara. Now."

"'M Drunk, Lee." She leans closer, breath wafting out, full of alcohol and cigar smoke. "See? Drunk."

"I can see. I don't care. Cottle gave me special dispensation to use stims when I need to." He holds out a hand, two white pills sitting in the palm. "Take these, you'll be fine in two minutes."

"No. Lee, no. I won't." And Kara is suddenly serious. "You can't put me, drunk and wired into a viper, Lee."

"I can and I will. Or the cylons will kick our ass completely."

"One pilot is not going to make a difference! I'm a liability!"

"DO as you're told, Captain!"

"Sir, yes, sir." She snarls, grabbing the pills from his hand. This is a bad idea. This is a really bad idea.

Helo pops back into the room and grabs her, "C'mon, Kara. Get you to a bunk--"

"No. Flight deck. The CAG insists."

Hi [livejournal.com profile] lyssie, here via galacticanews. You know, I used to say that Anders was DietLee 'cause he shares some of Lee's better qualities but has none of the baggage (insecurity, resentment, guilt trips) that come with Lee. But you're right--other than looks they aren't that similar. Anders is actually Starbuck Light (just as some have said Dee is a lighter version of Lee). Anders is athletic, brave, physical, acts on his instincts and heroic. I don't know if it's any healthier for her to be with Anders since he's so similar to her but so far he makes her happy and that's more than anyone else has done so how can any of us protest? Plus, he's hot and they have good chemistry--that helps a bit.

Because, unlike Lee, Anders believes in Kara. Thinks she's doing the right thing, that she can accomplish her mission. He doesn't automatically assumed she screwed up.

It's wonderful that Anders sees Kara as his hero, which has to be a big attraction to her. Even her being bitchy in the morning didn't bother him, rather it makes her his "kind of woman". Lee, on the other hand, constantly assumes that she's trying for glory (the Mini, HOG, FOTP) or screwing up (TCH, Home part 1, KLG1). And none of these times was she actually exercising a "taste for heroics" and mostly she wasn't screwing up in the way he imagined. Of course, that's the problems with Kara and Lee (in my opinion)--Lee has known Kara (and vice versa) so long that he can't actually see who she really is. You know, this is another reason Leoben is fascinating--he does see who Kara really is and like Anders he thinks Kara is special. In contrast to Leoben and Anders, Lee superimposes his vision of Kara as a screwup/glory seeking viper jockey onto her. It's not conducive to a real friendship (like Kara and Helo have) or anything else. It's more like how disfunctional family members treat each other. But this is my opinion and I'm sure many, many people would disagree.

Thanks for letting me rant a little in your lj, 'cause basically I'm just agreeing with what you already said...

I'm glad someone does ;-)

Actually, I like you too for liking me! See how easy I am?

Hi. I'm all for ranting, as I do it frequently (sometimes only to myself, of course)

I think one of Lee's major problems is a giant stick up the ass--he doesn't seem to like ANYone having any sort of fun (he yells down the pilots in VoD and HoG, off the top of my head). He's allowed, of course.

And he looks at Kara as being someone who can have fun and forget rules and the seriousness and consequances, and etc.

I think he's jealous of that.

This is also not to say that Kara has never been a glory-seeking viper jock who frakked up a lot. She was, and still IS that, to some extent. But she's also changed. And she's better at pretending to be that than she is at simply being.

...er, and I kind of just ranted back.

Uhm. Totally. Which, to be honestly, kinda ticks me off because he doesn't want to be Starbuck. He loves authority and the respect that he gets from being a tight assed over-achiever. Guess he wants it all--respect, glory, a career, and fun.

This is also not to say that Kara has never been a glory-seeking viper jock who frakked up a lot. She was, and still IS that, to some extent. But she's also changed. And she's better at pretending to be that than she is at simply being.

No, she has been (and may still be) a glory seeking hotshot; however, she's also a brilliant strategist and a painter (of questionable ability but still). I think we're making the same point, which is that there is much more to Kara than Lee thinks. Hell, you could write a book about what Lee doesn't know about Kara. He didn't even know that she was lying when she said she couldn't remember the names of the dead pilots.

I think one of Lee's major problems is a giant stick up the ass--he doesn't seem to like ANYone having any sort of fun (he yells down the pilots in VoD and HoG, off the top of my head).

I hate to defend Lee 'cause he doesn't need another fangirl going on about how perfect he is, but... as CAG it was his job to keep everyone safe and in-line. Sure, he doesn't have to be an ass, but he went with his strength.

*goes backwards, possibly again*

I should do a long post about Lee, one of these days, as I do actually like Lee. Stick up the ass angsty puppy that he is. Not to mention the snarky brat part. Um.

Dead pilots' names! (I'm going backwards, yes) I believe that was the time I yelled at the screen, "Kara, you lie like a dog." and then she (sorta) proved me right (I have a theory that she does know all of their names, and the writers themselves went, "Dude, we don't remember how many people have died. Also, 40 callsigns? Are you NUTS? We'll be calling them Peanut Butter and Marshmallow Cream at this rate!")

I apologize for the rambly nature of this, but it is morning and I'm at work, and listening to the season 2 soundtrack and--*stops*

I think Lee is jealous because he isn't quite sure how be so care-free. You're right, he does kind of want it all, but he also figures the responsibility is his (HoG--his line about not pulling some death-defying stunt out of his ass--plus, he doesn't think the other pilots respect him, which I think is wrong. Just because Kara doesn't think the CAG is supposed to be touchy-feely doesn't mean it doesn't work).

er... I warned about the rambly thing. I think. I really should do that, one of these days.

Dearest, you must simply stop crawling around my brain. It is a scary place in there. You keep posting what I am thinking.

If I see one more fic mention how Anders looks like Lee, I will hurt someone. I've always had a hunch that Anders is most similar to Zak in personality.

Although I do so love this is all Kara's way of suppressing her love for Baltar.

But it's so comfy.

This frightens me, and makes me glad I avoid the hell out of most fic with Anders in it.

IT IS. And I should write Kara/Baltar rematch fic (Y'know, he was all, "I think I'm in love with her" during season two and then got distracted by Gina. hrm)
