instead of saying it in the 30+ places it's been mentioned...
No.
I don't think the 'oppression joke' is funny.
It wasn't funny to begin with, and it's even less funny now.
I hate Kara/Lee.
But you know what? I don't go around telling people every fucking chance I get (Yep. I have it in my user info. Not the same thing).
I like reading your journals and commentary. However, I don't like continually getting slapped in the face for speaking out about my dislike for your fucking ship.
eta: as requested.
Kara/Lee = oppression of the people who don't like the ship.
It began after a rather whiny commentary by myself (and one or two others) elsewhere about the fact that 90% of the fic out there is Kara/Lee, 90% of the rec'd fic is Kara/Lee, and 90% of the commentary is Kara/Lee.
I honestly don't even know if it's being directed at me, but as I AM one of those people who doesn't like it, it certainly feels like it is.
eta2: yup. Being directed at me. *bows* I've gotta tell you, it's very strange to be on this side of the shipper divide. I kinda feel like a Daniel/Jack shipper.

I'm missing something, aren't I?
However, whatever it is I'm missing - being slapped in the face for being open about not liking a ship is never nice.
Polite discussion of pluses/minues of said ship are fine. Being told you're a fucktard (paraphrase guesswork there - plus, I always wanted to type that word... it's not as naughty as I thought it would be) is just downright mean.
Would you like some chocolate? I have lots now.

And that just kind of spawned all this passive-aggressive wankage.

Not to, like, fan the flames or anything.

Sorry. Next time I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Your post is very cool and well-written, yay. I am really not in the BSG fandom, but I can totally see parallels in all other fandoms. It is sad that there was flailing and wank as a result.

and then i did something about it. so, good on you for voicing your opinion, but don't be surprised when something comes about after it.
i didn't mean for this post to sound as condescending as it does.

*wanders off to write spanking fic*
All this talk of slapping is getting me all . . ahem.

It's like the female version of being a football fan. You can't explain the obsession to anyone, but its something that can drive you to wearing stupid clothes, vehement cursing and face painting.
And as we all know, face painting is the source of all evil.
In short, extremism in any hobby is annoying and a waste of time.

But then again what would I know, as my whole purpose in BSG fandom is to stalk people and say horrible things about them.
So, your Lee/Darla? How's that going?

Not to rain on the parade . . .
I have friends on my flist across a wide, wide variety of fandoms, and this issue is cropping up more and more. Pairings fic is almost unilaterally bad. No one is oppressing anyone, but the good writers who are interested in more than UST! are feeling left out and overwhelmed because such undeserving fic, in their minds, is getting tons of attention.
In conclusion - write the fic you want to read. Others will read it (eventually), see that it is Good, and want to emulate you. This process can take a LONG TIME. Until then, infighting is going to get you zilch besides fandom_wanked.

*pets* Poor Lyssie. It's no fun being at the center of controversy. Personally, I've missed all the controversy (as I tend to do - I'm amazingly blind like that), but I'm sorry it's stressing you.
I lean Kara/Lee, and but that doesn't stop me from exploring other potential 'ships, you know? And always being respectful of other people's ships. (Unless they want to argue that Jack/Sam isn't canon. Then it gets ugly.)

Apollo frowns on infighting in the fleet. He wants us all to stop it RIGHT NOW.
... hilarious!

Meh. It wasn't all you, Lyssie. I contributed to it, too, but I got over it, 'cause I have the attention span of a 3 year old. And now, I'm just reading what appeals to me, ship or not, and writing what appeals to me, ship or not.
After all, I'm firmly Helo/Sharon, shipwise, and yet I'm still writing a Helo/Racetrack, and a Helo/Kara, and an Apollo/Sharon, and a Kara/Leoben, and... Well, you get the picture. ;)
And here, have a Kara.

You're welcome to the icon, if you want it.
Re: Not to rain on the parade . . .
My problem is that I tend to whine (not unlike DarkMark, although he wasn't whiny) about this disparity, and wish for more people to write other things. I was also whining that I wouldn't get a lot of feedback if I wrote non-standard stuff. As, unlike DM, I don't have the clout to write a Buffy/Supergirl crossover for the express purpose of getting feedback and getting that feedback in spades.

Thankies!

Yep. I whined. I knew it at the time, and I knew it afterwards. And sadly, I can't go back and say, "Pardon me, that's my egg on my face, can you all forget about it?" Mostly because it's been said already, and there's no point in trying to unsay something.
However, I do have a new mission in life: to scour lj for fic and make a list to spam people with.
no subject
Badly, sadly.
If I could write at work.... sigh. But I'd rather not write smut on work computers, especially as they record your every keystroke.
no subject
Although, actually, as I mentioned to Mitai, it's NOT the quality of the writing, as generally, the Kara/Lee stuff is written by very talented people.
I, am just whiny.
no subject
Yes, but I'm the only one still bringing it up. But, er, yes.
And, dude! I have the window open with your porn (damn you, work, where I can not read porn, even when I see it cross my flist!). Hopefully, I will have time to finish reading it (you realize taking a man's alcohol away is a bad idea? Of course, she can kick HIS ass...)
Mmm. Kara. And Sharon. *distracts self with porn and cookies*

Remember I am the Evil Lee/Kara hater.
My job is to stop them, by starting coms re other pairings and encouraging people to write fic!
