People r Stupid

I work for an internet retailer. Our international shipping goes through a third party company based in Florida. As such, they are currently NOT in their offices, being in the path of the CLASS 5 hurricane.

Tonight, co-worker B gets a call from a lady. She ordered something in August via the int'l site, and it hasn't arrived. B apologizes, says we can't currently do anything but that the projected date is Oct 7th for the other company to be back in office.

Lady is having NONE of it. OMG. She ordered it, and it should be there, and it's for her birthday, and WHY isn't the other company able to help!

B transfers her to S, the superviser. S explains (again), and offers to credit the woman, since we have no other way to help.

Woman refuses.

Woman then says, "I'm in Canada, what's a hurricane?"

Now. It's possible she was trying to say "What's a hurricane got to do with Canadian shipping?" But she didn't.

She then asks if S can take the item from the warehouse, and go to UPS and ship it herself!

All I gotta say is it's a good thing I didn't get her. I would've laughed in her face.

This is a job for the Canadian National Hurricane Center!

You should tell her to call the Canadian National Hurricane Center for further explanation. Yes, they actually have one. My Canadian friends and I speculate that it's some guy in Saskatchewan swilling beer and watching The Weather Channel, but they do indeed have one.

And that fact alone amuses me to NO end.

On behalf of all Canadians... OMGWTF is wrong with her?

I'm from the US...what's a Canadian?

We're the ones from north of your northern border... you know, where there's snow 365 days a year, we move around in dogsleds, 'eh' is in our dictionary and neighbour is spelt with a 'U'.

Oh, don't forget the penguin farms and lack of 21st century amenities.

(I've posted using only my supernatural abilities.)

You forgot to mention that you live in igloos, hunt polar bears with whale harpoons.

And all Canadian babies are hatched from eggs! (nods happily)

Oh! How could I forget our staple diet!? But I must run, the snow is almost melted on the bunsen burner for my morning drink...

I would've laughed in her face.

I would have assumed she was kidding me around and hung up on her...

But I thought Canada had a policy about "no dumb morons, kthkbai"?

If only! Sadly, no such policy exists on either side of the border.

Canada does get hit by Hurricanes...ok so's it's usually Novia Scotia.

My question to Canadians is..."What's Snow?" asks the Hurricane harassed Floridian :)

Have I ever told you about the story where someone in my office got someone who wanted to book a trip to Hawaii? By train? [smacks head repeatedly to restart brain]

The person in question, you should know, was a TEACHER.

[identity profile] erica-w.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully not a geography teacher.

Hi. You don't know me, but I happened on your post. Again on behalf of Canadians *facepalm* geez.

In 2001 I worked for customer service for a company selling magazines, books & small gifts. I remember getting a call on about September 16th from someone in Winnipeg reading me the riot act because they hadn't yet gotten the book that they had ordered on Sept. 10th. After a moment of silence to make sure they weren't kidding, I answered that that would have been a good turn around time for receiving their order at the best of times, but considering circumstances... I was trying not to throw 9/11 in their face, but apparently being oblique (ha!) wasn't good enough. The package was shipping domestically, from Montreal to Winnipeg, so I was still getting attitude from this idiot. FINALLY I had to point out in detail that mail wasn't moving because airplanes weren't flying for about a week because of 9/11... "oh, you mean that affects us here in Canada?" *facepalm* YEAH. I reply. "oh, ok." she tells me. That was all. SOME PEOPLE!!!
