Don't feel ashamed -- I have the whole series. ;) I still love them. They're good for their purpose. You're not always in the mood for Great Literature, after all.
Ummm, Mercedes Lackey. Prolific, mass market sci fi and fantasy author. Lots of "strong heroines" and telepathic horses and derring do. Fast, fun reads. Haven't read anything new of hers in about 10 years, though lord knows she's productive. A lot of her stuff gets repetative, but she knows her niche. Often accused of having some prototypical Mary Sue characters. Those people have a point.
Don't care. In my heart of hearts, she'll still have a place of honor on my favorite-est authors in the whole wide world. And if I'm gonna be stuck some where for a few hours or more that I have to kill, give me a couple of my battered Last Herald Mage books. Gay lead, don't you know. :) Baby's first guy/guy lovin, and it's an entertaining time killer like nobody's business. If I'm at an airport, I may buy a new book, but I always have a backup or three in my backpack. And for long ass trips, keep your Steven King. Give me a Mercedes Lackey book. Or Tanya Huff.
*now steps back and watches wave of mass defriending and vigorous handwashing ripple through her Flist.... snerk. C'mere. Let me tell you bout my favorite romance novelists.*
At a certain point when watching BSG, I just start laughing. It's not that it's funny, it's not that it's bad, it's just too relentlessly horrible to do anything other than laugh.
