someone just killed my brain

no, seriously.

someone just said that the Stargate writers are better and crazier than Farscape's.

that's, like...

it just doesn't compute. at all.

error.

Okay I never really got into Farscape and I absolutely adore Stargate but still I wouldn't go anywhere near that far....

Wow, and I thought I'd seen most levels of stupidity. These guys hit bottom and started to dig.

Well, better, possibly. If you say the best Stargate writer is better than the worst Farscape writer. Yeah, I could maybe possibly support that.

Crazier? Have they ever *seen* Farscape?

[identity profile] foenix.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, while 'better' might be arguable, as tastes vary (I'd side with the Farscape writers on that count, but the SG1 writers are generally great too, just in different ways...)

Crazy? Oh no fragging way. SG1 hasn't done ANYthing that holds a candle to the more insane stuff Farscape did, not even close. The SG1 crew has yet to wake up from a drunken bender in womens clothing on display for all to see, for example... ;)

What bizaaro, totally frelled unrealized reality are they living in?

[identity profile] thekatebeyond.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Remember the big discussion you and I once had about apples to oranges, and how I just don't think you can compare the two? Yeah, I stand by that, but...

WTF are they thinking? In terms of the caliber of the writing Farscape wins hands down. That's just not debateable. And as for crazy? They really must not have seen the show.

I love Stargate. There's just no comparison.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I do. And that's exactly it. Farscape was going for a different audience. Stargate is much more accessible, it requires you to think less. This is NOT a bad thing. I mean, hell, I like Stargate.

Galactica is also trying for that more interactive audience, I think. The problem is a lack of humor and a load of hubris...

er.

*stops before she rants*

But at least my brain is working again!

You've got to be frelling kidding me. Where is this person, so we may descend upon him or her with torches and pitchforks? I like Stargate, but...sheesh!

[identity profile] curlyjo1.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think you can say better. They're two different types of show really.

Crazier? The Stargate writers would need a couple of tons of crack to get anywhere near the levels of crazy that Farscape had.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Kinda like apples to oranges. Each show is aiming for a different feel. And the SG writers aren't bad, they just... need better pacing, or less interference from SF...

[identity profile] curlyjo1.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
See, I wasn't saying "not crazy" meaning "bad." Honestly, there were episodes of Farscape that I just couldn't get into because they were just that trippy.

Both shows are good in their own separate ways.

[identity profile] livilla.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
*blink* I... ok.

[identity profile] thekatebeyond.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Yes, I guess Galactica is in the ballpark. I guess I understand the lack of humor, but it's kind of a shame, because they do it so well. Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down had some hysterical moments.

[identity profile] saramund.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me you set them straight?!

Sheesh - absolutely NO comparrison.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No. My brain just completely shut down at the concept of it, and I was left gaping like a fish.

Oh, I know. That was my point, though. You can't compare them in any fair way, because they're written for completely different audiences.
