hrm. Let's try for coherency: SF Friday

All spoilers behind cuts.

SQUEE!!

OMG.

I like Stargate again!

This episode just bounced around and made me very happy with the bickering and the lightness, and Sam! Who looked very cute on the monitor, and my inner fangirl says she's really in Washington or on Caprica shacking up with Jack.

Vala was smashing. The woman was so incredible they needed three men to balance her out. *cackles* Am amused at her costume, the collar must be painful, and I don't think she can bend over. But if I could get my hands on it, Timey could be Vala. With the extra cup padding and dying of hair. Although she might be a little short (my GOD is that woman TALL).

I imagine the set for SG-1 is full of merriment and silliness, given the lot of them are all silly.

I found Landry irritating, boring, dry, pointless... You get the idea. At least Hammond was likeable. Landry just makes me want to drown him. (Hey, maybe he can guest star on 'Lantis and fall off a pier.)

Amusingly enough, the Sam/Jack list has panned this episode. Except they ALL LOVE Landry.

ETA: Also, OMG. The mound in Glastonbury has a DAEMON in it! Run, run for your lives!

And, to give more space between the spoilers, in case there are people who read one and not the other, I'd like to take this time to mention that I have a stuffed yellow elephant on top of my monitor. I know I named him (her?) a while back, but I don't remember. Hrm.

Teh Liz and Valeah sent him in a box with a stargate drawn on it. It was very squee-inducing.

There were happy bits. There were sad bits. I liked the reunion and some of the stuff. Ford bored the crap out of me.

Colonel Skinner was kinda fun, and no-nonsense.

The episode left me kinda 'meh'.

*frowns* Perhaps I do not have enough squee for three shows?

ETA: OMG. I was reminded, when 'Lantis was coming back from the darts impacting the shield, John called her "Elizabeth" again. But was all broken and staticy. *bounce*

ETA2: AND composers! STOP ripping off Terminator!

Again, with the making space. I also have a stuffed froggie, with a green underbelly and black top with blue spots. He came from the fabulous Ryuu (along with PEZ!), and was also squee-inducing.

Right below him is Dot (s3 Dot, so she has a kick-ass leather uniform and BOOBS) dangling upside-down. Steve's cousin Marius (aka Emplate) is on the other side, next to a gold froggie. I think the froggie is Timey's.

Too little Kara. Although what was there was, once again, strong and confident and please can I have one?

Most of the opening sequence could have been cut. The drama-induced flashbacks just made this episode drag and drag and DRaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. Lee in the brig was good. Roslin was irritating. The praying? Made me roll my eyes and babble at Timey so I could ignore it.

Someone needs to smack the inferiority complex Tigh borrowed from Cameron Mitchell out of him.

They also need to wash the fake blood off of Lee, since, y'know, it should now be like brown and gunky, NOT bright red.

Loved the medic being all, "But I'm not a surgeon, OMFG!"

Oh, look, Cylons on board. *yawn*

Can we go back to Caprica now?

Cally was good, Tyrol needs to sedate Crashdown. And, the guy dying was a bit, um, predictable. And would have had greater impact if Tyrol had put him down and he were already dead.

there may be more later... right now, I need to go write a Lee drabble.

I have to say, watching Daniel do a Vizzini Maneuver was amusing. "They're clever, and they'll guess that we'll be clever, so we can obviously not choose the bowl in front of me. But they also know that we'll guess that, so it's obviously not the bowl in front of you..."

It's also entertaining to see him stuck with someone that drives him just as nuts as he always used to drive O'Neill.

Yes. Yes it was. *cackles*

And I love Vala irritating him. It makes me very happy.

The pillow-flinging made me chortle.

Amusingly enough, the Sam/Jack list has panned this episode. Except they ALL LOVE Landry.
I haven't read the list yet but i'm not surprisedthey are panning it. Did you read all of their theories up to the start of the season? and their dislike of Vala? If you don't like Vala you weren't going to like that episode. I think I'll have to avoid the list or prepared to be annoyed. I loved Vala and didn't care much for Landry. He was just boring.

Too little Kara. Although what was there was, once again, strong and confident and please can I have one?
I agree! I wanted more Kara, more Helo, and More Boomer. They showed a lot of Caprica in the episodes *before* Kara was there so now with 3 of you main characters they should have MORE. I also wanted more Six.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Avoid the list. It is full of "omg! Why isn't Sam in Command!" and "Vala sucked!" and "There was no onscreen Ship!"

And, while I agree that her not being in command is irritating, I'm okay with it. I mean, hell, she's in charge of the entire R&D division at Area 51...

There should have been more Kara and Helo and Boomer. sigh.

[identity profile] raisintorte.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Too Late!! (see my new post) As I said in my post, I saw one normal episode reaction and then I realized it was yours.

Good point on Area 51. That is much higher than just a command of SG-1.

I liked the fact on BSG when they did show Kara, Helo, Boomer they let us know more about Helo and Kara having a history. And she called him Karl. I liked that.

*laughs*

Have some chocolate. The list of doom always goes better with chocolate. Or popcorn.

I am.. .oddly ok with Sam being at Area 51.

sigh. Now I want to watch the mini-series again. And, yes! Kara and Karl! Names have always been kind of important on this show--who says what, when. Kara, Lee, Starbuck, Apollo, etc...

[identity profile] raisintorte.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I so need to go to sleep but I think I'm going to watch more Stargate or BSG. I lent out my copy of the mini series so I can't watch that.

I agree with you on the name thing. I think the show does a really good job of using names to show personal relationships and levels of comfort.

[identity profile] foenix.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
"But if I could get my hands on it, Timey could be Vala." Oh yeah, that would break my poor little brain... ;)

I really liked both SG1 and Atlantis this week...but I'm notoriously easier to please than many. ;)

At least they're finally doing SOMEthing with Ford. The guy's been a character without a storyline for the entire first season.

And as for Crichton's puzzle, I already know the answer to it, I recognized the symbols. ;)

Lots of fun in SG1. Tons. Landry was a bit bland, but he might get better a few weeks in. They're probably running out of chracterizations for the show after so many years. *grins*

And I *loved* all the Arthurian stuff they put into SG1. They got SO much 'right' for the primary myths that most of the modern tales have been based on, and I *totally* geeked out when they actually corrected the Excalibur myth. Almost NO show/movie/book gets that right. "Excalibur" came closest, where they had the sword broken and reforged, but the sword was always Excalibur in that. I would've gone into just a total geeky squeefest if they had used the name for the original sword, but I guess that was asking for a bit much.

Damn, see how I get over Arthur? ;)

I already told her "I am not wearing that!"

Although I could probably come up with something close just digging in my closet.

I geeked at the Arthur stuff to. Lyss just corrected Daniel's pronunciation. *snerk*

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
*g* I had... low hopes for them and Arthurian legend, so I was kind of pleasantly surprised.

Even if I kept wanting to say "Battlefield was better!" and "Watch out for the Daemons!"

Ford... Well, see, I kind of liked him as simply a bouncy soldier. But I'm apparently in the minority. sigh.

[identity profile] gordon-r-d.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It was all I could do not to mumble "Let us not go there, it is a silly place." just before they used the rings. :P

[identity profile] blinovitch.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Snarking between characters is funny for a few minutes, and then it gets real old real fast.

I dunno about this guy Landry. Beau Bridges is still finding his feet in the show, I think.

Ben Browder, OTOH, seems to be basically playing Crichton, particularly towards the end, only slightly more restrained and fewer pop culture references. Works for me.
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
And, see, I'm a snark fan. It's the only reason I watch NCIS and House, so....

[identity profile] katcorvi.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
As soon as BSG ended I thought to myself, "Not enough Kara time for Lyssie." *g*

I enjoyed both SG1 and BSG, and I ate b'day cake during Atlantis and no one paid it much attention. I still don't get it, but Skinner was fun to see again, and not because he's on the Daedelus, but because it's Skinner in Space!! Oh, I liked that Novak was back.

Very happy with SG1. Loved the snark, loved Vala, loved Sam, loved Daniel and Teal'c,and I loved the new guy that's not Landry. I agree that Bridges hasn't found his feet in this role, but Landry didn't bother me too much, because there was so much good snark with everyone else.

Did Jack say that he was signing over his car?? CAR?? The man drives a truck. That's my nitpick, my whacked fan moment.

I'm happy. Fun on Friday nights begins again.

[identity profile] amykay73.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
As soon as BSG ended I thought to myself, "Not enough Kara time for Lyssie." *g*

LOL - I had that thought too. Plus it was a double whammy with very little Sam too. :)

[identity profile] katcorvi.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, everything is improved by more Sam Carter!

But going into it I knew that AT had cut back her ep count this season, and I didn't even know that she was going to appear at all, so I was pleasantly surprised when she did.

[identity profile] amykay73.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew about AT's reduced episode count, but I knew very little about this ep. I was hoping for more Sam and Jack, and was a bit disappointed with what I got. But I got over it quickly with the rest of the ep.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles* I am so predictable.

And I was expecting there to be no Sam at all, so I was rather pleasently surprised to see her in the list of cast members and in the episode.

[identity profile] gordon-r-d.livejournal.com 2005-07-17 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not enough Kara, but she did at least get the line of the show.

"Bitch stole my ride." :)

[identity profile] matt1969.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Amusingly enough, the Sam/Jack list has panned this episode.

Now, there's a surprise. No Sam/Jack element so therefore a bad episode. They must have little imagination. I'm thinking she took the Area 51 job so she wouldn't be going through the Gate without Jack being there in some aspect. If she'd stayed at the SGC, she might still have ended up going through the Gate.

I've decided to be Sam/Jack and Daniel/Vala. And it will be fun.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, well, I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm not a shipper for not caring that there will never be onscreen resolution...

And while there is a little bit of a point to "Sam isn't in command, 'cause she's a woman and this sucks!" I still say Area 51? Bigger job.

Daniel/Vala is snarky!love. *g*

[identity profile] matt1969.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I still say Area 51? Bigger job.

Absolutely! And she's head of R&D so in a sense she still does have command.

And Jack could have been selling his house because he's moved to Nevada with her.

It's called imagination :)

[identity profile] gordon-r-d.livejournal.com 2005-07-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Have only watched BSG and SG-1 so far...

Have much Vala love. It was almost like Aeryn playing Chiana or something. "Let's make babies!!!" and the resulting pillow throw was probably the most laugh out loud moment. But EEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Grinning and leather and cleavage. Can we keep her for the whole season, pretty please?

And although I was kind of worried I'd keep thinking of them as Crichton and Aeryn, they mostly got away with it, although Mitchell was very Crichtonesque (your new running cliche description for the year) at points.

Even though there was little Jack, he still got a laugh out of me with the "You can do anything..." speech. I predict I will be acquiring older seasons for more Jack.

Yay! Merlin, King Arthur, Glastonbury!

Loved BSG, but then I don't think I've seen a BSG I didn't like (easily pleased me yes). Simon made the "boarding craft" call five seconds after it hit the ship. And I am happy with Cylons being on the ship because my one big criticism of season one was not enough of teh shiny Cylons. So yes shiny Cylons running riot=happy Gordon.

Simon also muchly enjoyed both shows. He's off to catch up on S1 BSG now. Yay, another soldier for our army of the unde....wait...wrong meeting.

Quick quesiton about the credits for BSG S1 over there, did you have brief clips from that episode during the credits? Because I kind of missed it although am perfectly happy if it's not there anymore because I like surprises yes.

*waits for Atlantis to finish downloading*

Vala rocks.

And there will be even less Jack as time goes on... Frankly, I was surprised they got him back to do that bit.

I'm actually happy about Cylons on board Galactica, I'm just disturbed no one realized that's what they were trying to do. Because, er, yes. Boarding party.

In the giftshop! Where they will pick up little souvenirs and Tigh masks!

*giggles*

Er.

No, the BSG credits have been chopped, too. They were about 30 seconds, all told.
