spoilers have fucked us over

I mean, really. I was flipping through posts on a community, and someone was talking about the death of a character they'd liked, and they said, "I was so upset about X dying, I didn't know it was going to happen."

...NO SHIT, SHERLOCK.

That's what's SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.

You're not supposed to know people are going to die, or how the season is going to end, or any of that, or it ruins the fucking drama!

But drama can cause emotional pain or even TRAUMA, which can affect people's wellbeing for weeks. It's a wonder they don't SUE.

We pondered that for a short moment in the Matrix community. Or maybe we were just bitter that only Morpheus survived, that bastard.

Yeah yeah yeah, but I wants to be PREPARED.

However, in a couple fandoms recently I've watched unspoiled character death (namely: NCIS, omfgwtf) and been just so shellshocked that (a) character x died and (b) I hadn't gotten spoiled on it. It was an oddball experience.

Also, I was raised on the Xena and the X-Files -- main characters DIE ALL THE FUCKIN TIME on those shows and continually come back to life so I have this odd "omg, but they're *not* dead" psychosis.

Which is why there is a *lot* of N/T ghost and/or angel fic, I think. AHAH.

ps. ::randomly loves on lys::

Actually, they're not too bad... [livejournal.com profile] faith_delivers got a little to divine& relgious experience-y in one of them but as we all admitted, we were a little cultish about N/T, ALAS. /crazies

*nods*

I think it's a sign that you've been watching too much Stargate when there's character death in other shows, and a part of you is saying "hey, a bullet between the eyes doesn't necessarily mean they're not coming back."

[identity profile] liminalliz.livejournal.com 2005-07-06 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY. I thought that for about two hours after Kate died. Then...yeah... you can't really survive one of those. DAMN.

mahahah! so true.

You're not supposed to know people are going to die

Unless you're a Joss Whedon fan, in which case it should be taken for granted that, hello, characters you love have a really good chance of kicking the bucket.

And they're still SURPRISED EVERY TIME, in a "OMG Joss dared to kill someone" way. I'm not sure whether or not to cry.

preach it!
