lyssie: (Kat I'm a pilot)

just so I remember

and, for the whole record and stuff:

Until my website is updated, with all of the fic I've forgotten to put on it over the last five years, I am not allowed to write fic.

which is fine, anyway, as I've been singularly uninspired

Also, at some point, I need to properly rant about shows I hate, and why I wish people would stop talking about them. It will be cut, so people can ignore it. But I need to at least get the ire and irritation off my chest instead of bottling it up.

There will be addendums on why I don't think Firefly is all that OMG SO NEW AND DIFFERENT with a side of BSG and B5. I may even get in a little Farscape mockage.

Job front: Nada.

You want us to hush about BSG?

nononononono.

I just feel the need to poke at the underlying bits of it that I can't stand. plus, I was listening to Ron Moore again, and that always makes me hate it

And I'm slightly cranky and therefore prone to being irritated for no reason.

[identity profile] musicforcylons.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Because, we could you know. We could be silent for all of thirty-seconds. *is silent* See? ;)

I find it's best to not listen to Ron too much. On the other hand, it's better to listen to him than say, oh, Tom My-middle-name-should-be-crazy Cruise.

:/ *offers sherbet*

*pines for the lack of BSG for thirty seconds*

Seriously. They should not let him talk. He sounds incredibly pompous.

*munches*

and you will pry BSG from my cold dead brain, omg.

[identity profile] musicforcylons.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Can't say I'm one for cold brains, actually. Remember Andy from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? I'm sort of like her in that respect (and a few others).

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
ugh. chilled Lyssie brains. NOT a delicacy!

[identity profile] musicforcylons.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, I should hope not!

[identity profile] michaellee.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, absolutely. While I like Firefly, BSG, and Farscape all a great deal, I don't think any of them are terribly all-new-all-different from previous space series. (You get some mix of Blakes 7 or Babylon 5 in all of them, really.)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I need to dig out my FS/B7 comparison list...

But then, I'm also a philistine and like Next Generation still. hrm.

Philistines still like Next Generation?

[identity profile] beverly-mcintyr.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Man, and here I thought I would avoid that label.

Shoot.

I now have the hankering to get in a screaming match with somebody who calls me "INFIDEL!" while I shout back "HERETIC!"

HERETIC!

Actually. dude.

What I probably need is a nice flamewar.

Wait, I thought you liked Farscape? Or is this going to be friendly mocking. I'm curious to see this rant, at any rate.

Good luck on the job front.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I do. And it's mostly friendly (Farscape is probably the one show that I will love forever along with Doctor Who and Blake's 7 and Red Dwarf--why don't more people watch Red Dwarf? hrm. Maybe I'll rant about that, too)

Thanks. :)

Because it's...kind of on a lot of crack? *shrugs* I saw a couple episodes of Red Dwarf, and it just really wasn't my thing. (Also, what is this Blake's 7 thing? I keep hearing people mention it, but I haven't the faintest idea what it is.)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
See, and when I'm actually sane and not cranky, I know that things like Red Dwarf and Farscape are acquired tastes. They're not easy to love, by any means.

Blake's 7 was a series from 78-82 (iirc) done by the BBC. It was about criminals who were basically terrorists and fighting the all-powerful Federation, trying to topple the sadistic and tyrannical regime. It was campy, it was filled with bad effects and wobbly sets, and decent acting and writing that sometimes was silly. But it was also fun and good.

[identity profile] shadowserenity.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
See, I've only seen the Farscape miniseries and I've seen about an episode of Firefly. I'm really not a Firefly/Serenity fan.

I don't mind reading Ron Moore's blog, but I've never listened to podcasts. They're too... slow for me. I can't sit there and listen to someone talking about something for forty minutes, mulling over words - even if it is insightful or funny or just plan dumb - without pictures. I can watch episode commentary on DVDs, though.

And *I* watch Red Dwarf. It's on crack, but funny! I've caught most of the mid-season episodes.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
heh. *smooches*

Red Dwarf IS on crack.... But it certainly prepares you for the crack known as Farscape...

[identity profile] liminalliz.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*loves*

Job front: DAMNIT!!! WTF?! ::rages with you::

I like your fandom rants even when they hate on shows I like for you are wise and know things about shows I'm clueless about. I MUST find out a way to get Blake 7 enlightened. I'm only going to venture a quick point on behalf of Firefly that the *film* will be the first sf film in ages to have FOUR key female characters and none of them are completely usless and there just to give a vagina quotient. Well... the Matrix film still pwns them in numbers, but at least the Firefly gals are consistantly *interesting*.

*flees and shuts up*

*lovesback*

And I... dude, I love the women in Firefly (despite River annoying me when she opens her mouth) because they are all different and all can hold their own. *is not ranty at the moment*

Rarr. There need to be more women. Yes.
