Dear Social Security Card,

I know, you've hidden yourself for fear of being lost amongst the morass of unpaid bills and legal letters from companies that just want my money. I know that you think yourself quite cute for this action, because at least, wherever you are, you are safe from being burned.

Please understand that I hold you in the highest regard, but if I do not find you, I will not be pleased.

For, you see, SSC, I need you so that I can be registered tomorrow with a temp agency. So that, hopefully, I earn money, and can get paid. Which will eventually take care of some of those bills you're hiding from.

Social Security Cards are skittish little beasties. Mine ran off a couple of months ago, and I have been in search for it.

I think someone in my family lost theirs way back when and never found it. I'm not quite sure what they did about it.

Can't you take something else to the interview instead of the SS card? I always used my passport instead of SSC and DL. There are a couple of different options, I know.

On a postscript note, I'm sorry things are going bad for you guys. If you need to talk, just say the words.

Birth certificate: in St. Louis with my parents.
Passport: don't have one.

Mine has been lost for a damned long time. Good thing you reminded me -- I need to request another one... it wasn't a big deal while I was employed, because my SSN is on my pay stubs and that's legal enough to, say, open a bank account, but I'll probably need it when I apply for a new job...

If you go into your SS office, they should be able to print out something saything that you're SS is being reordered and write down the number for you.
