Did anyone know that the best topic for discussion on a Sam/Jack list is SG-1 ring tones?
What a good thing there's no more discussion of parodies, Sam having a personality, or Jack the Virgin....

eta: Timey thinks I should start a discussion on what flavor of condoms Jack would prefer. Or, that every porn should mention birth control, omg (like a Quampsmut which were always Safe Sex adverts).

Seriously, what bothers me about fanfic is how often you see SG-1 members drink-driving. Occasionally the ficcer will make a token effort to say 'I'll get a cab if I'm not up to it', but that normally comes after someone's drunk 2 beers and 2 tequila shots in about 20 min, in which case surely there shouldn't be any question about calling a cab or not. I know the DD rules are different in various states and I don't know what are for Colorado, but does no one think that maybe Sam and Jack are 2 highly responsible officers who would be extremely careful about putting others in danger and probably carry the number of a mini-cab company around at all times?
Sorry, of course not. J&S are so wrapped up in their eternal UST that they'd never consider that DUI might, I don't know, kill someone.

Setting aside for a moment the whole DD issue, why is it that so many fanfic writers have Sam and Jack reverting to undergraduate moronity when they've had a drink or two? Daniel, yes. But Jack and Sam have been consistently shown not to get stupid while under the influence of all kinds of stuff. At this point, mere booze is nothing to them. Hell, Jack uses beer in his omelets!
Sam would scoff at the lowly intoxicant that is tequila. She'd at the very least insist on mescal - maybe even cachaca!

I don't think that Daniel getting drunk on a beer after he's been offworld w/out drinking any (beer) for a year is good enough canon to make him a lightweight for ever and ever. I mean, he gets seriously bulked up in later seasons - that has to be worth something.

Yes!!!! That was one of the souvenirs I brought back for people when I went to Edinburgh. They were definitely the biggest hit. And I think we should totally start that discussion.

Thing is? With the modding on those two comms it feels like:
"Jack is a virgin!" is allowed. Disagreeing on, y'know, canon grounds is not.
"Sam has no personality!" is fine. Disagreeing on, y'know, canon grounds is not.
Saying parodies are TEH EVAL AND NEED WARNINGSZZ!! is allowed. Disagreeing? Not so much.
