Random book review: The Grand Tour by Wrede & Stevermer

Light, fluffy... The plot was just a little, ah, muddled. Moreso than Sorcery & Cecelia's was, actually. A lot of it felt rather like waiting around for a train. Also, I had trouble telling Kate and Cecy apart in their narratives. Unlike last time there was much less distinction between them (and unlike Freedom and Necessity, where NO one corresponded in exactly the same voice...), which occasionally confused me as to who was doing what.

Still, it was an amusing book.

I think my brain is fried. RP, plus randomly writing Lee and Kara mocking each other has killed it dead.

How freaky! I finished this last night. Started it rather a long time ago. I agree that the voices were less distinctive this time around. and James seemed rather washed out, he receded more than I would have liked. But a fun romp nevertheless and some nice images.

Freedom and Necessity will always be significant for me. It came out in HC the week my son was born and I spent many three-in-the-morning nursing sessions reading it and being happily reassured that my mind was not totally lost to mommy-mush. It rocks, of course, independent of personal context.

Ooh. Hee! I technically finished it this morning at 7:47 am.

You're right, James was... rather kind of just 'there'. I suspect part of it is that the two of them ended up emulating each others' writing-style.

And the ending deux ex... er. Well, it was kind of fun?

F&N. I re-read it every couple of months (and then start typing in the ornate expository style without noticing...) because I always find something new. And it IS so brilliant, and. *sighs happily*

Apparently. Do you think they'll send postcards?

Maybe if we're lucky they'll write us smut? *looks hopeful*

We could get that lucky (damnit, I need more Sam and Kara icons). Hrm. Maybe they're writing bad romance novels?
woodface: (starbuck try me)

*wrinkles nose* I'd rather have they wrote me Kara/Sam. (Yes! More icons!)

I think the plot ate it. And Kara/Sam are currently sleeping. Aren't they?
woodface: (dreamgirl)

[personal profile] woodface 2005-05-19 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite possibly. The plot is scary.

Hrm, either that or they're having sex.

Kara says it's fun and it beats thinking or talking.

Sam thinks avoiding conversation is good.
