bsg double-drabble

Swiping Meyer's "Lee, Cally, a ferret" from her recent "give me drabble prompts" post...

200 words mid-season one. After... Six Degrees, I suppose.

"What the frak is that?"

Cally looked at the small creature climbing her uniform and tried not to feel guilty as she perched on her shoulder. "She's a ferret, Captain."

"Why is it on the flight deck, Specialist?"

He sounded only slightly irritated. Cally wondered if that was because he thought ferrets were cute. "One of the cargo ships left her here, sir."

"Mhmm." Captain Apollo made a notation on his clipboard, then eyed the ferret. "And it's going back to them."

"I'm afraid not, Captain," Tyrol interrupted, appearing with the box that had been converted into a makeshift cage. "The Shasta was left behind several jumps ago."

"Oh." Almost absently, the Captain's hand snaked out to stroke the ferret. "Well, see that it doesn't disrupt normal operations."

"Yes, sir." Cally grinned and carefully removed the ferret, feeding her into the box. "There ya go, Starbuck."

A snort came from the Captain. "You named the ferret after Kara?"

Tyrol was fighting a grin, "Well, sir, she's obstinate, disrespectful of authority, and can get herself out of any cage we've put her in, so far."

The snort became a smothered laugh. "How fitting. Carry on, Specialist, Chief."

"Yes, sir," they chorused.

♥! So cute! :D I can just see Cally wandering around, working on something with the ferret occasionally poking its head out of one of her pockets.

*g* Thank you. And, dear god, that's a scary idea. *runs from the plotbunnies*

Well, not as scary as her having a pet snake that does the same. A snake loose on the Galactica would be a very, very bad thing. A ferret? Not as much. *feeds bunnies* They're adorable. Really. ;)

Note: I do not find snakes scary, I find the idea of one getting lost in such a honkin big ship scary.

I'm having flashbacks to the beginning of Men in Black 2, and the snake in the subway that used to be such a tiny little thing... Agh.

*eyes the plotbunnies* They're giving me evil little grins....

Never got around to seeing that one. *le sigh*

You know you want to take them home for your very own. *gives them bunny treats* What? Me encourage bunnies? Nope. Never. La, la, la.

*hides from the bunnies*

I am trying so hard to follow my own new edict of "Finish something unfinished before writing something new". But it's hard. *mutters*
